The best advice for your next reactions is to choose a medley or song you already really love. Because the secret is, Voiceplay doesn’t do covers, they do upgrades.

I agree, though I doubt our boys would agree. They're so humble, and have so much respect for the original artists. But, it's a simple fact that Voiceplay has made me love songs I was indifferent to before, and as in the case of this video, taken classics, that I'm sure some people would say should not be messed with, and given them a new life. "Dream On"" is another excellent example. 💙💙💙💙

I See Fire is actually just Geoff Castellucci who is the bass from VoicePlay. He has a solo channel and he clones himself and does all of the harmonies so all 4 guys are him in that one 😅

Yup. AND I would add to this: don't react to his cover of 'I See Fire' yet, until after you react to his cover of 'Over The Misty Mountains Cold', because 'I See Fire is basically a 'Part 2' to 'OTMMC'.

Glorious, isn't it? 😊 From left to right are Geoff Castellucci (who, apart from that bone-rattling bass, also has a five-octave range and arranged this and a lot of their other songs,) J.None (former full member of the group and still a frequent collaborator,) Eli Jacobson (comes from a metal background and does a lot of their lighting, sets and backgrounds, and has recently started doing arrangements,) Cesar De La Rosa (baritenor capable of moving a slab of solid granite to tears and absolute sweetheart) and Layne Stein, aka "VioLayne," who sings a lovely baritone when he's not beatboxing, playing, mixing or cracking everyone up, and who also is co-owner of PattyCake Productions where they do a lot of their filming. The guys also work with a whole constellation of other incredible vocal artists, including but not limited to Omar Cardona, Deejay Young, Jose Rosario Jr., Anthony Gargiula, Ashley Diane and Rachel Potter. Some of their other great covers featuring this same lineup are Valhalla Calling, In The Air Tonight and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. My other personal favorites include Hoist the Colours, the Moana Medley, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Man in the Mirror and Creep, but you really can't go wrong with anything in their channel (or Geoff's solo channel) that catches your eye. Liked and subscribed, looking forward to more!

Geoff arranged this one. The two main arrangers (historically) are Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox, also known as VioLayne.) Eli, metal-tenor, center - has arranged a couple (listen to Creep, astonishing!) and will be doing more in the future. The arranger takes control over artistic direction - and sometimes does it all himself. The arranger typically edits the video. So when you check to see who arranged, you know whose artistic vision you are getting. You are going to have a LOT of fun. They don't release anything less than their best. Layne has commented that he sees each one as an art project.

You just met the best acapella group and the best bass singer out there right now. Ok, that is just my opinion but I feel very strongly about it 😅 The bass, Geoff Castelucci arranged this piece. I’m not sure where to tell you to go next because everything g they do is phenomenal. What kind of music do you like? Because they do it all… Rock, Pop, Disney and everything in between. A lot of their work is theatrical and everything is a full and complete production with them from set design, lighting, theme, sometimes costumes and of course their amazing arrangements and voices. They make me feel things like you did. They do “epic” extremely well. Just jump on down their rabbit hole and enjoy! Subscribed! ❤

I fell down the Geoff Castellucci rabbit hole four years ago. I have always had a thing for low bass singers. Hooked me with his cover of Sixteen Tons with four Geoffs. He led me to VoicePlay that he is a founding member of. I instantly became a Patron to both. Just enjoy the ride that is Geoff and VoicePlay.

Oh my dear….Geoff wasn’t even trying there. Wait until you hear him go really low. 😁 I’ve seen them live. That man literally made my entire rib cage vibrate. I could feel each rib. And yes, VoicePlay can bring on the feels when they try. But….they’re just as likely to go goofball and make you bust out laughing. The beatboxer is Layne Stein. We don’t get to hear enough of him singing, IMO - he’s got the sweetest voice I’ve ever heard. He has a line in their cover of Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight…and he nails Phil’s iconic drum solo. If you want more feels, go for their covers of Creep, I Can’t Make You Love Me, or I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You. True Colors is a very old one from them, but Layne sings quite a bit in it. If you want some laughs, head for Drunken Sailor or In The Hall ofThe Mountain King. If you want theater, Valhalla Calling or Hoist The Colors. And if you want to hear lots from Geoff…they did Hellfire from the Disney film Hunchback of Notre Dame. If you aren’t familiar with it, it’s a very dark song from the most evil villain I think Disney ever created. Also…Geoff has his own channel. Nothing there is a cappella, but he does some major flexing. If you know the movie “Nightmare Before Christmas”, then you may want to hear his solo cover of Jack’s Lament. Others of his solo stuff I’d push you towards would be Sound of Silence, House of the Rising Sun, Folsom Prison Blues and Ain’t No Sunshine. I’m sure someone mentioned this, but his last name is Castellucci- so you can find his solo channel - and he does all his own back up vocals. So yeah. He’s got the kind of range where he can do four and five part harmonies with himself. Did I mention is solo stuff is a flex? 😉
@ForeverDegenerate
@ForeverDegenerate 2 ай бұрын
You know what the biggest "Geoff" Flex has been, thus far? The "this is how we arrange songs" video he did on VoicePlay's Channel where he was the arranger for that exercise and, after he got all their parts back went, "You know what? Needs some backing. So I'm gonna do that really quick." Then proceeded to casually do High Tenor (like Eli-level Tenor) backing vocals for the song. Like, dude did not have to go that hard. Literally every other member of VoicePlay could have done that for him with, like, half the effort, but Geoff was all like, "Nah. I'll just do it myself. Why? BECAUSE I CAN." And then he proceeded to make look and sound effortless. Geoff Castelluci is INSANE.

They have hundreds and hundreds of videos. I thought I would give you a mix of styles. First thing to know is that at the moment, they only have 4 members but as in this one, J None (black guy next to Geoff (bass) had been a member but he was recruited by the US Navy Chorus and is nearly through 3 yrs of his 5 yr service. He comes when he can get away to sing with them. VoicePlay also is from Orlando FL, home of some hefty theme parks and they often have brought on any of those amazing singers to give them a 5th singer. I'd put Wicked at a high level, also The Greatest Showman, Hellfire, the Little Mermaid, Tennessee Whiskey, I Can't Make You Love Me, In the Air Tonight, We're Good, and Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. The edge that VoicePlay has is that they do everything themselves from arrangements, staging, camera work, pre-mix audio, computer work, Layne (beatboxer) is co-owner of Pattycake Production Studios where a lot of their videos are done. That is what gives them full control of their creativity. Like your kitty - right now I have 3 inside.

J.None, I believe, is currently stationed in Orlando and that's why we've seen him quite a bit in the last year or two. He's, for all intents and purposes, been home the last couple years so it's been relatively easy for him to drive down to Pattycake or The Mall or wherever they decide to film and film a video with them when he has time between gigs and rehearsals for the Navy. Also, given that he's stationed in Orlando, I assume he, literally, goes home to record the audio tracks for any VoicePlay song he's in since, you know, his personal equipment is going to be the best. Also, Fun Fact: J.None is the BASS SINGER for the Navy. Yeah you read that right. Every single member of VoicePlay has a Bass-to-Tenor Range. Geoff, of course, has the widest range of the group at about 6 octaves.

Every song that VoicePlay covers is different. The arrangements pay homage to the original yet bring a special VoicePlay touch. And they cover a vast array of different music and create delightful medleys. They have a love of Halloween and of Disney music and also have been able to focus on more theatrical videos which are mostly created by their members (being independent they have lower budgets but the production value is massive.)

I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! I am now a new subscriber looking forward to more reactions to Voice Play and solo Geoff Castellucci (bass singer).This cover was arranged by Geoff, bass singer, and Voice Play also covers "Whiskey In The Jar" a cover that Metallica also did. The best of the acapella groups (IMO) as they are completely independent doing all their own production without a record label or contract and very theatrical and creative (all members and their frequently featured guests are from Orlando Florida and have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks). I recommend "Valhalla Calling" and "Hoist The Colours" for your next reactions to Voice Play. Geoff also has a solo channel (not acapella) where he harmonizes with only himself and his 5 octave voice range is beyond amazing-- you will be blown away by "I See Fire" if that is the next one you plan on reacting to.

Your reaction is so on point. Since discovering acapella groups like VoicePlay, the talent of these folks is next level, like nothing I've ever heard before...not even close. These performers have SO much for you to discover. Same for Home Free and another vocal group called Voctave. Do I even need to mention Pentatonix? All with talent that, as I hear it with my own ears, I can scarcely believe it, no matter how often I listen. I can see you are just like the rest of us, you feel their voices in your core. So much more for you to hear. Excited to watch as you explore.

That was a marvelous reaction! I think VoicePlay would really appreciate that reaction to their work! Geoff (the bass) arranged this masterpiece. When he's not actually singing lyrics here, he seems to be doing his best imitation of a bass guitar - except he occasionally forgets the limits of a bass guitar, and hits a low note that a normal bass guitar can't reach. And this cover also includes #VioLayne! Layne, the beatboxer, has played violin since he was a child, but since VoicePlay is a cappella, he doesn't get to use his talent with the group very often. This was only the 2nd time that they used an instrument in a video - you might like the first time #VoiLayne appeared, in their cover of Imagine Dragons' Warriors. One thing about VoicePlay videos that can be confusing is that, since they've actually been around since the mid-to-late 90s, they've had some personnel changes over the years. Geoff and Layne are the only remaining original members, although Eli (bald tenor) has been with them since 2010. But depending on when a video was made, you might see a very different group of people performing - just know that whoever it is, they'll still be amazing.

"Pronunciation" is that the word you were looking for or "diction". Anyways, Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole and Geoff Castellucci's Rabbit Hole you're in for one wild ride 😂 Quick introduction: Voiceplay doesn't have a manager so everything you see is done by them (except special items like camera work, ocasionally makeup and final mixing. Geoff Castellucci, Bass Singer who has a five octave range. Yes he can shake the depths of He11. He is also the arranger of this one. J None, primarily is a Baraton and is a featured singer for this song, but I think most fans still consider him part of the group and is just on loan the the US Navy (currently singing bass for them) Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson, a Rock God Tenor who can shoot straight to the heavens and beyond. He does most of their lighting and is a voice actor, so whever their is additional talking he's usually doing the voice (examples Oogie Boogie Song and Hellfire). Cesar de La Rosa Baritone, is their newest member and replaced J None after he left.he has such an angelic voice that just radiates emotions Layne Stein, Beatboxer/Baritone/Violinist, a founding member of Voiceplay (along with Geoff) aka VioLyne. This was only the second of (so far) three times he's pulled out his violin, he's been playing since he was about 4. He also co-owns Patty Cake Productions along with another former member Tony Wakim and most of Voiceplay's videos are filmed there (or close by) As for what you should check out next 🤔 What genre do you like? Rock: Dream On, Carry on My Wayward Son or in the Air Tonight Something to make you cry (literally): Creep, Can't Make You Love Me Broadway: Wicked, If I Were A Rich Man/Girl Medleys: Moana Medley, Little Mermaid Medley, Queen in 5 Minutes, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes Disney: We Don't Talk About Bruno, ACA Top 10 Disney Heros/Villains/Sidekicks (three different videos), Friends On the Other Side Sea/Space Chanties: Hoist the Colours, Wellerman, Drunken Sailor, Sleeping in the Cold Below And many, many ,many more Thanks for the reaction and again welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole 😊

The first line in your description is very accurate; when I first dived into VoicePlay, I was on the fence; they had skill, clearly, but, did I like what they were doing? A few of their covers... I don't know, they didn't seem to sit right with me. But very quickly I realized my mistake: it's just a cover, that's all. There's no need to be divisive; if you prefer the original, it's still there, waiting for you to listen to it again. There's nothing here but a bunch of people having fun; expressing themselves - and their enjoyment of the work - through their own work. It's right there in the name: VoicePlay. They use their voices, and... they play. They make decisions that work for them and.. that's what they do. They aren't trying to do a cover so much as they are trying to have fun, and when you approach it from that perspective, you almost always have fun as well. You're clearly infatuated with Geoff Castellucci, as right you should be. He's an excellent bassist with Grade A dad humor. More specifically, you called out 'I See Fire'. ... as a massive fan of Tolkien, I can tell you, his rendition always - without fail - brings tears to my eyes. Maybe I'm thinking about the story as much as I'm hearing the music, I don't know... but it gets me hard. If VoicePlay ever do a cover of 'Into the West' I'll probably have to rip my ears off, because nothing will ever be as good after hearing that. Otherwise, go wild. Don't expect to see Layne playing the violin very often; they are an acapella group, and I think he just did it this time because ... I mean, how else are you going to honor one of the greatest rock songs of all time? But do expect him to be a silly goose while laying down an immutable beat. Eli (rhymes with 'jelly') is insanely flexible; he's best known for his rock belts, but he can cover base when Geoff is singing, he can harmonize, he can lead, he can bring you up hard and set you down soft. The rest of the group is somewhat rotating; different eras have different members and different guests, but they've never been bad. Scroll down VoicePlays and Geoff's lists and go with what jumps out at you. Trust me, this is a rabbit hole you will be glad to go down.

Greetings from the UK! I just love seeing new reactors lose it on their first VP experience - and you picked a great one! VP are completely independent, so never block videos - they do virtually everything themselves, from the arranging, costumes, set and video concept/editing - the only things they bring outside help in for are some additional camera operation, advanced makeup/prosthetics and final audio mix (by Ed Boyer, who also works with Home Free, etc). Once the final mix is done, they record the video - normally singing over the track in the studio rather than just lip-sync, so it appears more natural. Many of their videos (like this one) are recorded at Pattycake Productions studio, co-owned by Layne and Tony Wakim (ex-VP baritone, who wanted to be more on the production side) Sometimes they keep it 'straight', like this one - but on others, they go all out with set/costumes/makeup - hence they are known as the 'theatre kids' of acapella! It's hard to choose what to react to/watch, as they cover all genres, from country to rock, from Disney to musicals - and everything in between! The usual answer to the question - 'which is my favourite' is - the next one! 😊

They create arrangements that stir your soul. Sheer genius. They cover songs that an a capella group shouldn't be able to, such as Dream On, or an orchestral piece such as In The Hall Of The Mountain King, or this one. And their gaming theme songs are incredible too: Halo, and Skyrim, for instnace. They do it all. And they're lovely genuine guys. But I think that's obvious. Up until 2020, another original member, Earl Elkins with an amazing tenor, was with the group. (Tennessee Whiskey, True Colors or Queen in 5Minutes are some of my favorites). The other changes were in the baritone spot: Layne, Tony (roughly 2010-2017), J (2017-2021) and Cesar (present). Only Geoff (bass), Eli (bald rock god, whose name is pronounced Ellie, short for Eliezer) and Layne (beatboxer, violinist and prior baritone) will be in all videos. They currently are down to four permanent members and use guest artist to fill that fifth spot. J was the guest this time around and appears frequently, as do many other repeaters. Also, over the last few years, they use the karaoke track on the outro, which is gorgeous on its own. If you are going to watch Geoff’s amazing I See Fire, you might want to start with Misty Mountains from the first Hobbit movie. Same Dwarves, Before they head out. It was the first of his solo work I heard and it remains one of my favorites. Artistically I See Fire is more impressive, but there’s somethings so incredibly soothing about Misty Mountains. It’s slow and sonorous and full of bassy goodness. Subscribed from Northern California here😊.

I can't even give you any recommended videos because there are just so many that will give you those goosebumps. (And FYI, Geoff Castellucci -the bass- also has a solo channel that's out of this world spectacular.)

Great reaction!! Subscribed and from Tampa...about 1 hour from Voiceplay's location in Orlando. I would love to see you react to Voiceplay's Hoist The Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean next and then Valhalla Calling, then Hellfire, then Creep, then We Don't Talk About Bruno, then Seven Nation Army, Warriors, Dream On, 21 Pilots Mashup, If I Were A Rich Man/ Girl, Sleeping in the Cold Below...you cant go wrong. Voiceplay is amazing. Geoff is the bass and arranged Nothing Else Matters, and he does a 14 second sustained Bzero in Valhalla calling. Layne Stein (VioLayne) is beatboxer/vocal percussion extraordinaire and Layne arranged Valhalla Calling. Eli (is pronounced like Ellie, not E-Lie) and is their rock tenor god / bald one in the middle. Eli arranged Creep (when you get to it) and does their lighting design. J. None was next to the bass and he used to be a full time member. He joined the Navy as a singer during covid and comes back as a featured guest when on leave. Voiceplay is keeping the 4 full time members and then adding a featured fifth so they have even more versatility. And finally Cesar De La Rosa the smooth baritone next to Layne the beatboxer. Cesar gets a lot more showcase in Creep and Hoist The Colours, and is the highest Steven Tyler voice in Dream On. Great to have you part of the Voiceplay family! Enjoy the ride!! Looking forward to your next reaction!!

New subscription! I really enjoyed watching how moved you were by their version of "Nothing Else Matters" I feel sure you will love this rabbit hole and the neighboring warren that includes bass Geoff Castellucci's channel. His is dug down really deep 😄 I'm going to suggest an older video that is one of my faves. Mostly because I haven't seen anyone else suggest it yet. Try their "Queen in 5 Minutes". Amazing transitions and we get to see Eli really rock out at one point! However, they all sound spectacular in it! They even managed a great little 'story' made up of Queen songs. Be sure to stop and read the intros as each 'character' comes in. Those spots go by a little fast otherwise and if you don't read them, the premise can be confusing to folks not expecting an actual story.

Welcome to Voiceplay! I am subscribing, as there is nothing better than watching someone discover Voiceplay! They're a fine (and fine-looking) group (though their lineup has changed over time). I have been a Voiceplaya for years! So much goodness, and their bass, Geoff Castellucci has his own amazing channel too! DO watch "I See Fire, " it's all Geoff singing. All male voices are his on his channel. (And pretty much all the male characters are him too, often 4-5 of him in one video!) Also, I've put together a few "rules" (suggestions, really) in listening to Voiceplay that I think improve the experience of them. But I will only post them if I've got an "okay" in writing. One reactor (and only one) took offense to them, felt I was trying to tell him how he should react and run his channel. I wasn't. But other Voiceplayas who see this, does that seem like what I'm doing? Some of you know me pretty well. I'm not trying to tell someone how to work. They are all just tips, meant in a light hearted way, though I mean them sincerely. But I don't want to come across as pushy or bossy. 💙💙💙💙

J-None's voice is just so smooth with runs and riffs. Unfortunately for us, he joined the US Navy band. So, he's not full time anymore. However, he does get featured every once in awhile. Because of the pandemic, the group stopped touring and Geoff decided to do himself solo. In most of his videos, he shows off his 5-octave range. He sometimes shows off his sub-harmonic notes. Just amazing talent. Plus, on his videos, he does almost everything related to the video; arranging, singing, production, design, etc.

Liked and subscribed. Hello from Finland. I live in Southwest of Finland. In coast. This is my 1st time seeing your reactions, however if you like Metallica, Voice Play, and metal music in general I believe I'll be checking your pretty blue eyes more often. You look very beautiful. Now to topic in hand, if you haven't seen/heard term symphonic metal yet then you have to check out bands like Within Temptation, Amaranthe, Nightwish, these bands will give great base you to draw compares from. Also great male vocalist you find in Iron Maiden. Old band but such great voice that singer has. Testament on his routines and voice usage. Now Floor Jansen Nightwish, Simon Simmons from Epica, will provide 1 of the best examples on ladies side of exceptional singing. I am sure you get links for these from other's from ,but if you don't write answer to me and I'll set you on path for deep rabbit hole. 😂❤ Ok, be well. It is 3am in Finland right now. So I'm off to bed, 🛏️. Tell my best wishes from other side of the world to your boyfriend.

So the bass is Geoff (gotta love his simulated walking bass), the beat boxer is Layne, the bald guy is Eli he has an awesome rock belt, the guy that has fuzzy hair is caesar and loves the breathy singing, and finally the guest is jay none. He was permanent for some years but went to navy I think so joins in when he can. Yes Geoff has a ludicrous range...something like B0 to F5 . They have an interesting choice in songs from all over the show. They are all ridiculously talented and can at times take over each other's parts. They like to each take turns and love to spotlight their guest singer.

Welcome, Alice, you've fallen down the Rabbit Hole. I See Fire is a Geoff Castelluci, the bass, solo channel. Well worth going to. My suggestion for the entire group is Hellfire. It is the villain song from Disney's Bunch back of Notre Dame. Geoff leads, and he is well able. I don't know if you noticed but, He has a very wide vocal range, 5 octaves! Or, just be like most of us, and play eenie, meenie, mienie, mo. Anywhere you stop is good to go.

I've heard this song SO many times (between the 'official version" and from reactors) that almost nothing surprises me anymore. YOU, however, were a breath of fresh air! Your OBVIOUS fascination and thrill was, in and of itself, absolutely captivating. What next? It's a 30-way tie!! 😊 I'm sure you have heard/seen the expression "going down a rabbit hole." VoicePlay's rabbit hole has so many left and right turns, branch-off, side-rooms, etc.... you can find ANYTHING. Here are just FOUR of my VERY favorites (not in any order... (1) For Disney fans, I think "We Don't Talk about Bruno" is amazing. (2) For hard-hitting, emotional impact, go with "Valhalla Calling." (3) For a fun twist on a popular Jack Skellington movie, try "The Oogie Boogie Song." (4) for something WAY out there, try "In the Hall of the Mountain King." No spoken words, but amazing vocals! My hat is off to you, young lady! This was an unquestioned LIKE, and you have my subscription after just ONE listen! Keep it going!!

Voiceplay and Geoff in his solo work always pay homage to the original, but will never do a cookie cutter version. Geoff has said that he listens to the original multiple times, then as many covers as he can find. If he can't find something to add he walks away. Why do something that someone has already done? The advice someone else has given you, to pick something that you already know and like and check their version is very good. But if you need a starting place I'll suggest Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. They used to tour extensively. When Covid shut the world down they concentrated on making their studio work even better. At the same time, Geoff started doing covers on his solo channel. When the band Chicago was going to do concerts last November, they heard this version of Nothing Else Matters and contacted them. Voiceplay was featured with several other artists and Chicago. It was a challenge for them, they had to sing live again after four years of mostly studio work. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff!

They are completely independent with no copyright problems. This is a rabbit hole that you won't regret going down.

If you enjoy classic rock and roll you should give VoicePlay's rendition of "Carry on Wayward Son", originally by Kansas a listen. Great interpretation. Also, any of their gaming and literature based songs, like "Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim), any of their Hobbit pieces, or movie medleys. They usually have a "guest" in the line-up because they haven't filled the fifth spot in a few years so it's just four permanent members plus a "guest" usually. J-None in this video is currently singing for the Navy but was a permanent member until a few years back. He guests when he can get time and is always a welcome addition. He is in their performance of "Valhalla Calling", another fairly recent and great performance and cover.
