My brother was at the special forces camp. If not for the incursion at landing zone X-Ray the special forces camp may have been overrun, so I thank this man with all my heart for making sure my brother returned home. thank you for your service sir.

I have watched so many of your videos. This is the first time I’ve seen one that was JUST posted. Such an awesome man Charles is and what a story he tells. My Uncle was among the first Marines to land in Vietnam. He was killed within the first two weeks in country. I was named after him. Feel honored. Always was told I had big shoes to fill. Bless all out veterans. And the US. Thanks Larry. You’re awesome

A excellent recall of 1965 vietnam. This gentleman knows what was going on. His opinion on lack of use of surveillance is right on. The start of fta.

❤️This new upload auto-played as I finished the audiobook "Conan:Beyond the black river" in Starbucks and the intro music brought me so much joy and made my eyes begin to well up. So excited for this new interview!!!

What another great story. What a great account of seeing so much world history and military history evolving is amazing. A long career and development of the use of radars is interesting to learn about. Seeing all that new technology firsthand definitely keeps you around. Thank you MSG Blackwell for your service and sacrifices to our country. You are appreciated, thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you for the kind comment. Radar and electronics was an occupation I enjoyed for many years. One of the few things in this world that remains constant is the speed of light (186,282 Miles per Second).

Welcome home MSG Blackwell. Thank you for taking the trip and time to give this interview. I enjoy these interviews because they will often tie loose ends to other things I've heard. I'd heard that McNamara was cost conscious about the war, but it never occurred to me it was because those dollars were competing with dollars for the Great Society. I also appreciated your comment about not speculating the action in la Drang. You are right of course, and the News does that far too often.

I love to hear what these vets think the American Flag means to them. With each one of their answers my own definition of our flag expands a little, and Msg Blackwell's is one of the best I've heard.

Correct MSG, the Mohawks' should have been the primary RECON AND close-in, in tandem with the 1st Cav gunships and A1 Skyraders. No need for fast movers in close. That was a blunder that Moore and his Companies survived. Outstanding book.

"Stay tight. Don't let your companies get seperated." They knew that Moore's battalion was going into some serious trouble.

Is it possible that 'they' knew exactly who and what Moore would be facing and that this was a 'test' case to prove the concept of 'Air-Mobile' and to try to project the idea that we could go anywhere against any foe this way. That our 'firepower' could protect a small force and wipe out a much larger one? Was anyone tracking serial numbers of AK47s captured by LRRPs knowing that when NVA got bulk shipments of AKs from the Soviets they gave them in bulk to NVA units and thus track what units were where if we had such information????? Hmmm.....

I do hvac, and im in and out of houses daily. I met a guy that was on one of the first helicopters to land there. He was in the movie on the helicopter with moore. He had a display set up in his condo with signatures of 4-5 of the guys, including himself. There was a big picture of a few guys jumping out of the first helicopter he was one.

Charles technology story brings an interesting view point to the war. So I'm hearing that they had the IR and radar technology to scan before sending troops in, but didn't cause the generals wanted to win their battles and receive their stars? Just a question
