My father immigrated to the U.S. From Italy when he was 16. He shared all his favorite music with me, Domenico Modugno and Claudio villa (Luna rosa) were two of his favorite. I can hardly keep a dry eye when I think about his last days with lung cancer. He would whistle this song even with lung cancer and copd, as the sickness progressed his whistle was reduced to a barely audible whisper. I would hide myself in another room to cry. Thank you Daddy! You did great all the way to the end! -Carlo

carlorocky nice.. my great grandfather migrated from Italy to Mexico city the capital. i have some percent italian in me. small world. anyway im more mexican/american than anything. my granda can speak italian so well.

Music it's maybe the greatest veichle for communication of our hearts Then it's obv your choice what to communicate: separation, like most of the music today (at least in my country but it's a global degeneration I guess), or on the other hand, oneness I always loved India, one day I hope to visit you from Kerala to Ladakh p.s. suggestions for some beautiful indian music are well appreciated, especially traditional (with old instruments like Sitar, Tanpura ecc). @museack It's about being a nation. Hard to understand if you are from some place that is just a country and not a nation. Doesn't matter where you were born, if you are Italian YOU ARE ITALIAN. While in those countries without identity, mainly in the Americas, they just have a country, but not a group of people that understand each other and make up a nation, race and culture with an identity. We all have to do with it, it's our race. Now, if you talk about the Italian State, country, etc. That doesn't really matter. Same you could say about the Jews for example.

my mother was agonizing, barely conscious, when a friend of her came to visit her and started singing volare. my mom woke up for a while and smiled, made an effort to sing, which she couldnt of course, and all the family joined singing. these were the sweetest, saddest and at the same time, the happiest moments we had with her. she died exaclty 2 years ago. everytime i hear this song my face is covered by tears and a smile, and my heart is full of love and gratitude.

Italian is the most beautiful language for me to hear. The way the words are pronounced, the way they use their gesture to accentuate the meaning. I am always in awe when I hear my friend from Milan(Lombrata) have conversations with his mother. Just an incredible language that has many dialects but has been preserved for so long.

Fun fact, he is THEE reason Italian music became so popular. Up until that point in Italy, it was very conservative and the singers would be very still. He was the first to open up his arms and incorporate movement into his singing to capture more emotion.

Vabbè fra è vero che ha rivoluzionato la musica italiana ma tipo Caruso Vendeva 40 anni prima milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo, poggiandosi poi sulla tradizione operistica che da secoli ci rendeva gli MVP della canzone. Ancora prima dell'arrivo del grammofono erano centinaia i cantanti italiani che facevano tour mondiali venendo adorati dalle folle.

Jerry, that is a wonderful story. Thank you for posting it. I had an Italian grandmother as well, but I don't really remember her. What we have is the Sicilian cooking, and the music. My mom and I both play accordion, or she did when she was in full health. I'm learning this song for her now to help bring back her memory of her time as a young child in her Sicilian grandmother's house. All my best to you. I hope you find a child to sing this to, to carry on the tradition.

It came 2nd songs of all time at the "Congratulations: 50 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest" show in the 2005! Right after Waterloo, which won in 1974, the same edition which the Italian singer Gigliola Cinquetti came 2nd. You know what? In the Italian wikipedia page of this song there's not even mention to the Eurovision facts, neither that it's the most covered ESC song.

Bellissimo! Ricordo quando avevo 6 anni e guidavo su una station wagon Mercury del 1957 su una superstrada di Los Angeles. Questa canzone è arrivata sull'autoradio. Non l'ho capito ma l'ho adorato. È ancora un ricco ricordo per me. Ho 68 anni e adoro ancora questa canzone. È stata la mia prima introduzione al mio amore per la lingua e la cultura italiana.

Hola, amigos italianos, os siento como de la familia. Siempre me ha gustado vuestra canción, tanto la popular como la ópera. Concretamente, recuerdo con emoción las veces que escuché y bailé Nel blu dipinto di blu interpretada magistralmente por el gran Domenico Modugno. La primera vez que la bailé. yo tenía dieciséis años, ahora ya son ochenta y me sigue gustando igual.

Most beautiful song forever! During my staying in Genova for 3 months, my neighbour listened every morning this song on old gramafon - with vinil plate. It was amazing sound and experience, I can never forget the feeling of that music. It became for me the song for "Starting beautiful day". I love this song very much!
