A quick guide on Mixers, Cables, and extras for beginners who are looking to create their own setup to play multiple instruments at once.
Presented under the assumption that you bought into the Volca Line but will work for other hardware too.
I cover buying your first mixer.
Cables to connect Volcas to a mixer.

Ah no problem at all, when I first got a couple of Volcas I had no clue what to buy, or how to chain them together. Glad this is helping some people out! Also use the main output on your board, I think in this vid I was daisy chaining out of the headphone out. While it works, it ain't good practice =)

No worries, I recorded this after I just got started playing around with Volcas and was struggling with figuring out a way to hook them all up together. Glad it helped, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will try to answer as I have time.

Quick comment about Mixers. I was facing the same issue, wanting to connect my Volca Drum to my Korg minilogue XD (and have them synced) but also to virtual instruments playing from my DAW, all together. Agree that the Volca Mixer is not the right answer, so I ended up with a Moukey MAMX3. It is super cheap, $40, but has 8 inputs that can be used as 8 monos or combined in any way you want as stereo inputs. I then connect that to my audio interface and into my DAW. It works brilliantly!

Totally man, sounds like a wise choice for a volca setup, only thing you may run into is the sample/FM are stereo, but FM only with the chorus effect, and the sample if you load stereo samples. Even so I'm guessing you split them out across 2 mono outputs and pan accordingly to make it work.

Awesome, just don't daisy chain out the headphone jack if possible =) I use the main out now and it seems to record to the phone a bit better than splitting the headphone out jack as I showed in the vid.

This was useful and fun to watch. Losing out of stereo signal is not a big issue as most Volcas output mono. But hey thanks!

Thanks Rayder, you are absolutely right about the stereo signal, I know the FM and Sample output in stereo, but most of the others are mono!

I think when I shot this I had the headphone jack on the board going into an adapter, then into my phone. An audio interface is what I use now and I run the main left and right outs to it, not the headphone jack =)

I want to connect the VOLCA BASS to my KORG WAVESTATE... Do I just connect the MIDI from the VOLCA to MIDI of the KORG WAVESTATE?

Hi Nick thanks for the demo. If I have 1 Korg Volca Beats and a small Behringer Q502 mixer, how can i connect it to my Laptop so i can record the Korg in Ableton? There is no MIDI connection on my mixer. Can i get a MIDI to 1/4" cable and put that into the input in my mixer? Thanks!

Yeah that's one of the down sides of the Volcas with no midi out. OK, one way is to purchase an audio interface, run the headphone jack into the audio interface, and record the audio from the volca, into your pc, and record a loop, and add the audio into your DAW. You can skip the audio interface, and run the audio from your mixer or Volca directly into your PC, but the quality will not be as good as a proper audio interface like a SSL2. Does that help at all?

@@NickCapron Hi, if I connect my volca sample to my audiointerface through the headphone jack on the volca, then I can’t hear when i’m playing. I have the same problem when I have guitar pedals connected. How do I fix that? Thanks.

Congratulation, it is a nice little drum machine. The mixer used here is the Mackie Mix 12 FX.

@@NickCapron /Thank you I appreciate it. I bought the Gemini-05USB Compact 5 channel mixer! I hope it works like the Mackie Mix 12FX does for you. Quick question really quick. Have you ever tried connecting the volca fm to the pc using the headphone jack with a 1/4-inch TRS Male to Dual 3.5mm TRS Female going to the line in of the pc? That way I could try to record sequence patterns I create to edit them in abeltone live 10?

@@offthewallfilms6265 NP, yeah I don't love the Mackie Mix 12FX, its really noisy and the Phantom Power gives awful feedback randomly, I don't know the Gemini board, but hopefully it does the trick for you! Regarding recording, eventually you are probably going to want an audio interface, but before I bought one, I did that same thing. Well I just used a 3.5mm to the 3.5mm mic in on my laptop/PC. Wasn't the best quality, but did the trick. If you have a proper soundcard in your PC, that accepts 1/4 inputs, you might be good to go already, and not need an interface, but sounds like your plan will work! Of course, you will need to hook up your volca with a usb to midi cable to get ableton to talk to your volca to sequence it! Hit me up if you need any clarification or have any other q's or issues.

@@NickCapron /Thanks again so much for the information. I didn't know I would need a MIDI to USB. My volca beats will be here tomorrow. I'm SUPER STOKED & EXCITED TO TRY THEM TOGETHER BUDDY! I'll pick-up that midi cable tomorrow. Oh, and I would love to hear any song mixes you've created with the volca fm or beats. I can definitely see the advantages of using these things for live-performances!

Daisy chain give ground loop noise very often like 99%

Thanks Mik, yeah I'm using the main out now, not splitting the headphone jack as shown in the video now =) Still got lots to learn, thanks for the comment! I should check to see if that fixed my phantom power issue with my mic...

@@mikg2618 yeah I've been wanting to do this but I don't think I have the line in to my phone working correctly. I'm using a Stereo Breakout, 3.5 mm TRS to Dual 1/4 in TS cable into a Movo MC3 3.5mm TRS adapter into my phone but the panning on the mixer always sounds like headphones, will pan to one ear, but go silent if I pan the other direction. It's been on my list of things to research and figure out.

@@adammcnair2998 Volcssa by itself noisy devices, I hear it in each one. Therefore using ground noise isolators (AliExpress $2.6) with Fm, Bass, Keys. Others Drum and Samples are moderate noisy for now.
