Berastagi is a beautiful mountain town in North Sumatra. We only spent a few days here, and we wish it had been more. Berastagi has two awesome volcanoes on its doorstep, the regularly erupting Sinabung, and the more placid Sibayak. Our highlight of Berastagi was the amazing trek from the middle of town to the top of Mt Sibayak. It has great views, and the crater lake and constantly spouting geysers makes it something special. We also explored Berastagi's great local market, museum, and Gundaling Hill lookout area. Berastagi was such a welcoming place, and relaxing in the hotsprings at the base of Sibayak was an unforgettable way to finish our time in this special place.

Hi, Thanks for watching. We stick to a really low budget and try to make our dollars stretch. We travel by the cheapest option which is normally local transport and we always eat local food which is not only budget friendly but also delicious. For example to get from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi most people take a share car which costs 170,000 per person. To keep costs down we took the local bus which only cost us about 45,000 each. So on just that day we saved around 250,000 between us and the only down side was it took a little longer. One huge advantage of local transport is we meet lots of friendly people. Another key for us is travelling slowly which means we stay in towns for up to a week which not only keeps our transport costs down but also lets us really explore the towns. Before we left we had both worked for 20 years and saved really hard during that time. We are going to run out of money at some stage but at the moment every dollar we save extends our holiday a little. We love travel and Sumatra has been one of our highlights.

This videos are great, but you didn't go to leuser. Shame on you!! There's so much to do between Banda Aceh and Berastagi. You're in the largest tract of tropical forest left in SE Asia, save for the heart of Borneo. I would love it if you went back and showed us some jungle trekking.
