I won't lie, I very much enjoyed old Voli. He was one of those champs who (to me at least) was very fun to play. But I won't lie when I say that new Voli has his own charms and a fun play style.

It’s so interesting hearing the impact of VGUs from a strictly gameplay perspective. I never played old Voli, but it was only because I thought he looked stupid. Since the VGU he’s been one of my mains, and it’s interesting learning about what I missed out on simply because the character design was so lackluster.

@@szymonryba8162 From lookin at his old animations, they have a real early-league problem of not being character animations but being the minimum required for their respective skills. Voli's old concept was "bear in armour", whilst with new Voli, you can tell that he supposed to be large and mighty from his "slow" animations (long wind-ups, longer distances between each step he takes, etc.).

As someone who played the old Volibear for nearly 10 years, I can say that I absolutely love this version of Voli. I just wish Riot left in his flip on the Q. It was so synonymous with him (and Singed) that I wish they kept it in. To this day I still love Voli, and I wish he got some more love in the past.

The flip is cool but doesn't synergize well with the rest of his kit. Stun is far better since want to keep people cc as long as possible

@@dieptrieu6564 I'd have to disagree with you there. Old Voli's flip would actually stun once the target landed, and would pull his opponent further away from their turret when they attempted to escape. Not to mention how often enemies could run out of his E range while Voli is chasing them. Being able to flip his opponent could bring back the Q+E combo from old Voli. I do like that there's still CC from his Q, but I'd still take a flip over a stun any day. Mostly for flavor and something else that makes him stand out

@@segladiator2659 nah the cc is still shorter back then due to the nature of airborn effect, and there were no stun anywhere after the enemies land. And the flip might also throw enemies out of his e, too. Usually you only use your e when you are already in range. So flipping people back into it should mostly not happened

@@dieptrieu6564 reading up on it, you're right about the lack of a stun. It was his E's push back that would apply the extra CC. My bad there. It's been a while since the old Voli was around so I was remembering wrong. Regardless, since the enemy isn't slowed during the current E cast time I often find enemies running out of the ability before it lands despite them being in range. Being able to land it while flipping is just an option Voli would have if he had the ability. Just something else you could do with his kit if given the option. As for an enemy possibly being thrown out of the E damage, that would just add something to learn with his kit. A good Voli player could know when to use Q+E or when to wait on one or the other. Again, I do like the CC in his kit, I just miss the old Q and would prefer the flip over the stun if given a choice.

@@segladiator2659 That's because you are not timing the E right. You E before you stun them. And unless they have a dash, they won't be able to walk away from it. Of course it's easier said than done. But stun is overall a better ability for his kit than a short flip gameplay wise

I remember playing Old Voli Darius in the botlane with a friend, he would Voli Q the enemy adc and I followed with Darius E to pull them under turret, it was extremely fun. I'll also never forget the humongous earrape old Voli did when ulting

When I played old voli support it was with my friend who played yasuo. I would max Q and run down on their enemy adc, flip them towards their support and press E, making both of them be knocked back for a bit then the yasuo on that small time frame would use his ult (cause the old volibear E counts as a knockup) and finish them off. Then we would get fed enough that we would force fights 2v5 and win the game. I got up to plat 2 on my first ever season playing league cause of that strategy. I also remember in the climb was I sucked at towerdives cause I didn't know the target champion only key existed.

I've mained Volibear for 10 long years. When his new kit came out I was really mad at first because so much of the old one was gone, things I lived and breathed with for so long. I was determined to not let my favorite champ be anything less. So I kept playing and gradually adjusted to his new kit and now I love it even more than before. Though, I will say I have very fond memories of flipping and doing AP oneshot builds or even old attack speed only builds. I dedicated a lot of time and effort into him and even had my dream prestige discussed and mocked up on r/volibearmains and it was brought to life by some amazing riot dev's. Nothing will ever beat the memories I have of going home after school and playing with the guys online as their big bear.

You can still do AP oneshot builds really well with new Voli. His E does insane damage and so does his R. I'm gonna be honest I didn't play much old Voli, but I know he could do some pretty crazy stuff with AP builds. I love going in with AP Voli R just smashing down on poor ADC players.

remember when Voli originally came out all those years ago, and how interesting it was. First champ in the entire game to have an ability that dealt damage from building HP, everyone freaked out about him having "Mundo ult as a passive." Gotta say, I got hooked in by his playstyle. Simplistic yet effective. No matter how many people treated him like he was a trash champion, I was committed to the bear, and never had more fun playing any other champion since. The rework definitely created a bunch of mixed feelings, for sure, but it was definitely for the better, though I think with the massive changes they've made to the items and rune, there was a potential for Old Voli we'll never really get to see. Still, the capacity for making big plays, not to mention build variety, is undeniably higher on the rework. I have tons of fun with new bear, so while I miss old bear, I will continue to enjoy myself. I also like that you mention Sett, because I've always said that Sett's gameplay was more similar to Old Voli than any other champ in the game. Scales well with attack speed, powerful option to be wary of at low health, and that same option can deal big damage based off building health. As for your comments on his similarity to old Aatrox, I can definitely see some of the similarities, particularly his ult vs old Aatrox's Q, and the drain-tank properties of W, but I gotta say the similarities kinda end there.

About being similar to Aatrox... I thought the same about Viego, when he came out. A drain tank slayer, with 1v5 capabilities... Like Viego kit was like Old Aatrox, but modernized, and his "possession" could be something they looked forward back at the time with the darkin lore rework about the weapons possessing their hosts, taking that in place of his revive.

Has it really been so long since the rework? I feel old. I still remember everybody forgetting his passiv and being suprised they cant kill him 1v1 lvl 1 as he just chomps their head of. Or how people complettly miss judged the powerspike that is his ult. Seriously 75 on-hit on lvl 6 is amazing, specially if its aoe. Old Voli got underestimated a lot and since it was my last main that hasnt gotten changed, after the rework i started to grew more apart from league. I have returned 2 weeks ago from a 2 year break and i have fun with Soraka and Vi, but the old Sion, the old Voli, the old Ryze (like the REALLY old ryze) - i will never forget them. They might have not been often played but the specific hijincks and chananigans u could pull off where amazing.

Been a Voli main since around when I started League and yeah, Voli's rework did great. Was kinda sad seeing old Voli support go, that's where I started with him after all, but his current version is just so fucking fun, and it feels like you have so much more agency when you're playing him than before, even if that makes him a bit more complicated to play, which I think is more than worth it.

I would indeed say it's a top 5 rework, although only on 5th place. The first 3 are reserved for Fiddlesticks, Nunu & Willump and Warwick, with 4th place for Gangplank. It's definitely very good, but the lack of knock ups makes it not a "Perfect rework" like the first 3, just great.

I barely played Volibear after the rework. VU is ok but it doesn't give the fun it used to. Volibear was my Jack card for Yasuo mains. Whenever I play top lane and enemy picks Yasuo, I used Voli to crush those OTPs ego lol.

I had over 2 million mastery points with Volibear before his rework, playing him almost exclusively in top lane for at least 5 years reaching high plat with him at my peak before they reworked him and I stopped playing league altogether. I think that speaks for itself. The only thing that I would have changed about the old Volibear is adding a slight increase to attack range while his R is active and removing the activation time for his R. This has precedence with many size increasing ultimate abilities such as Nasus/Renekton R. The old Volibear did not need full rework, just a slight R hotfix and maybe a passive change to stay relevant with Elder Dragon and other new forms of true damage executes. I miss him so much.

11:20 such a nuanced description is also why Seraphine is *still* Sona 2.0 to me. A passive that rewards constant use of spells, and autoattacking after several. Said spells also have larger benefit when used near allies. A poke Q, as vague as that is, that has relatively small number of targets. A heal/shield W that affects nearby allies. E is quite different for them admittedly. Ultimate is a wide, line AoE that causes immobility on all enemy champions hit, forcing them to act against their will. Both are musicians who float around and have a large instrument as their weapon. All in all I feel Volibear is less similar to old Aatrox than Seraphine is to Sona.

I've always told my friends that Seraphine is Sona 2.0 too, and you can see the change in the games philosophy, while Sona is more of a traditional fantasy, being a mute classical musician with a more "realistic" style, who is also more focused on healing and supporting their teammates, Seraphine is a modern pop musician with a more "anime" style, and instead of being mostly focused in her support role, she's also able to do a whole lot of damage and utility. I feel like we can tell how the game has gone from a slightly serious game with simple champs that are made to fit their role and are mostly based in traditional D&D style fantasy, to a more fast-paced hyper game with a more cartoon-anime style.

@@vhuyjgvyj definitely, i can also say with relative certainty it will be a long time before we see any new champs similar to what volibear was, or renekton, nasus, etc. i dont really count the reworks for that. makes me sad all new champs basically look like akshan, viego, seraphine, gwen, hell they even had to humanize belveth ffs

I just miss the flip and the bite. The flip was super good for ganks since it would flip towards your ally usually and the bite felt more meaty while the new one is basically a nibble for healing.

I was a otp with over a million points on old voli. I basically stopped playing League after the rework. I have no idea how anyone can say he is the same in any way. I also hated the reason for the update 'because he is hard for other people to know what he does if they don't play him'. League used to be fun because it was a hard game.

I would like to see your take on dr.mundo before and after the rework. i absolutelly loved the old mundo, as a fast farmer super scaling mr focused tank option in the jungle as he was pretty much the only one in that category, and enjoyed being a menace by 2/3 items. for scaling tanks im taking bruiser sion now. old mundo was a mid/late game tanking juggernaut that could make a full tank cho gath blush when comparing fight disruption and tankiness with a lot of damage and tenacity that could run after a adc/mage in the backline for 12 secs if he was a bit ahead. new mundo became more of a early bruiser/lane bully with 2 pokes. his ulti healing and bonus ad was cut by about 60% (new mundo gets ad based on hp instead and only for 10 secs) and traded 30% tenacity, 40% bonus mr, and constant 100 damage/s for a bit of grey health and a cc immunity shield. and the worst is he is only viable at low/ mid ranks at top lane, because high rank has abundance of lifesteal, % hp damage or true damage, and his clear in jungle its much worse than before.

Voli rework was surprising mainly because it was pretty much universally accepted that he'd be better if his auto effects were on his passive and riot actually DID that. His old passive also had an issue that it could proc at the WORST time. You couldn't really play mind games around it like you could a heal you control. Early game you could try to hover around that heal threshold to bait a fight, only to get minion aggro wrong and waste it. Or because it would proc off any damage below the threshold if you finish a fight with it on cooldown and get poked by just a caster minion or the very last tic of Liandry's and waste the cd as you are trying to recall. Also I'm super excited for the Karma video if you ever do one. I still don't feel like there's a great replacement in game for her old short-range mage support style.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you forgot that Voli's old E was reworked at one point to deal a small knock back with double damage if the enemy was airborne when struck.

New Volibear and new Mordekaiser share the same "OMFG THAT'S SO COOL" factor that transpired from the reveal videos themselves. Mordekaiser Q and Volibear R just look so freaking powerful I was jumping on my chair when I saw them for the first time. And they feel amazing when you land them.

I'm a voli otp, since 2 years ago, and your walking style is very good for a voli that plays around his w, Little fun trick, if you want to use w mark on a dashing champion: use q and right before you'd hit him w first, so then you get your 2nd w quicker, and w has slightly larger range than your aa and since the q is a little leap (about +50range) towards the target, you can still get your q in, it maybe needs a little practice but vs dashing targets it can be a life safer (also helps alot if you buy iceborn)

Old voli passive was super old school, i liked to play him before the rework and even if they just changed the passive, i would consider him reworked enough. The new kit makes a lot more sense and i like league having champs with some quirks not just scaling stats so turret disabling is a nice addition imo

Ngl you're completly insane, old aatrox and new voli may have similarities on PAPER but their playstyle is different, where they play is different aswell and when you look into his spells a bit more carefully, whereas old aatrox was heavily based on atk speed and ad, new voli is more ad juggernaut/ap for some. But as a old and new volibear main i have agree this rework is awesome (aatrox was also one of my mains in the past but the rework ruined the playstyle i liked so i stopped playing him since then, wish they take the old aatrox back and the new thing we got change his name and become a new darkin, bc even if i don't like it i won't stop other from enjoying him.)

Old Volibear was one of my most hated champs when I started playing. It would always be him and Singed in the bot lane together and everytime I thought I got him, he would just heal and get away with single digit HP. So infuriating, and he seemed useless at so many other things. But after finally getting around to playing him for years, I saw just how crazy fun and op the bear could be. His rework, as much as I really missed the AP burst builds with his E, is hands down so much better. What's even better with this kit is that you can build him in every possible way and put him in any role and he can still get the job done and with gusto. I love all of his different scalings and I really wish Riot would do a better job implementing this across other champions. Being able to take the same champion and do other things with them is incredible and makes each champion deep and allows different parts of the kit to come alive. It would be like giving Janna and AD scaling on her Ultimate and movement scaling on her auto-attacks, so that the faster she moves, the faster the projectile speed is, making her a really interesting AD harass carry. You can do that already with her, but this would legitimately open up a brand new avenue and way to play without really doing all that much to her. She will still feel just like Janna, just now you get to showcase what else her kit is capable of.

Volibear was one of the two champs that I learned when first really getting into the game at the start of last season. The other being Kha’Zix I played exclusively Jungle and man, Volibear is probably one of my highest rated champs in terms of kit design and visual design. The skill ceiling is high enough to allow and require you to have some skill while the skill floor is low enough to make him easier to learn and perform well with as an average casual player. Recently I’ve been playing his AP attack speed builds and if you haven’t tried Lethal Tempo Nashor’s Tooth with either Riftmaker or Frostfire (for the slow effect really) you have to try it. I love that Voli has so many different viable build options each with their own means of beating down the opponent

i played a fair amount of voli jungle and top pre rework, it's a shame to see his flip go but i do really think losing the % missing health damage and instant aspect of his W is sad, that ability was extremely strong for his laning and fantastic burst that people never saw coming

as a voli otp (reached 1mil before the rework) i thoroughly enjoyed old volibear, he was amazing to bully with. You could play him on all positions except for adc & could also build literally anything on him. when i first played voli i saw his w and how strong it was and ended up nearly one-shotting people with a 5 warmog & berserkers greaves build. I found his hard cc incredibly fun & his passive even more so. in all honesty i don't like new voli as much because you gotta do more work to deal that damage. despite the changes i continue to play volibear to this day, but i would love to play old voli again.

Id say that voli rework is one of the best reworks so far. It changed a lot while keeping the main ideas intact. Even though i didnt really play voli that much pre rework, i feel that the voli rework did voli justice. All in all, 8/10 rework ngl ngl

When I heard of the Volibear rework I flipped out. I remember playing old Voli just one more time the night before the rework. New Volibear is one of my favorite reworks and all his old problems were fixed. Sadly you can't play new Voli as a support as well, but he's still amazing. He's my highest mastery champion and Riot gave him some skill expression while still making him simple to learn. He works both AD and AP now with his passive and E scaling with AP but his Q and W scaling with AD. His R scales with both AP and AD. Overall very good rework.

I miss old volis knock-ups and the health damage scalings. As someone who has mained both versions I sometimes still mis the old version.

One key thing about Voli's old kit is that his old E disrupts and deals bonus damage to dashing enemy. Although I absolutely love this rework, I still miss that satisfying feeling whenever I disrupt a Lee Sin or Tristana or LeBlanc dash

I had a dream where I made the argument that twisted fate was AP vayne. They both have a stun and an on-hit autoattack passive. Your argument for new volibear being similar to old aatrox reminds me of that. Take that as you will

As a Volibear main since the rework i miss the old build with the old items, you could build Bork and next Gunblade and Literally nobody could outheal you or outdamage you if the other one wasn't feed or something, then Triforce and then tank items, god tier build

Hear me out, The new Voli, if you got lethal tempo, build riftmaker, nashor's and then just full tank, you'll be an AP juggernaut with actual tank stats. I got like almost 300 armor with 200 MR from the build with almosy 4000 HP. It's crazy.

There is nothing like getting an enemy down to a sliver of health, and then pressing R so you can obliterate them in the most satisfying way possible.

Volibear is one of the handful of VGUs that feels like they really wanted to keep the original feel of the Champion intact, not just saying they want to, alongside Warwick being the only one that immediately comes to mind. His gameplay feels like a Modern Remaster of what Volibear was before, unlike a certain someone who feels nothing like his original version at all.

@@StrategyWasTaken Eh, not quite for Mundo. His voice certainly took a hit, and losing his tenacity for gaining cc immunity is pretty unfavorable. It feels a lot harder to 'Go where you please' with him now. Fiddle's kit is fucking great now, and the base voice is absolutely phenomenal, but they dropped the ball on the Surprise skin. The original Fiddlesticks was funnier than the Surprise skin's voiceover- When they opted to make his base voice scary, they should have taken the opportunity to make the Surprise voice actually funny, but all it really does is make a bunch of IT references and shit.

@@carnage0685 I prefer Mundo's immunity to tenacity, late game it's on a 0sec cd if you pick up the canister. It only struggles vs hard cc chains, but for those tenacity wouldnt help too much anyways.

voli is one of the only reworked champions that I didn't think needed a rework, but it's still one of the better reworks that were done. I wish he'd kept his flip though. I always felt like the suplex bear was a distinctly League of Legends thing.

Old voli was my first mastery 7, i played him support and i loved flipping adcs into my team, man ut was fun. and the roar instant displacement was such a great tool as well. The new voli doesn't feel nowhere near as fun sadly edit-looking at the video, the roar displacement is what i miss the most it helped so much in so many ways, followed by the super cheese passive that was great for baiting enemies

Old Voli was the only champ I ever got Pentakills with in the game. I've only gotten 5 Pentakills throughout League's lifespan, and all of them were from old Voli. Yeah, and like you, I miss his E displacement the most. Such a unique and fun tool that made him a lot of fun to play. I still like new Voli but he doesn't feel quite the same anymore.

I still prefer the Old voli simply because of the old Q and E interaction. He was great for dealing with dash spamming champs (Irelia.) and each and it was pretty easy to snowball with him in the top lane.

I unlocked Voli on release without even checking abilities. While I was playing league I have no doubt he was the most boring champion I played. The update looks much much better and thematically has made huge leaps forward.

As an old Voli player I think the rework was pretty weak in the first few patches. It was only after they buffed his E damage and W healing when things really changed. He feels amazing to play yet pretty fair to play against.

I used to be a Volibear main. When they reworked him I was gutted. They completely changed his playstyle and it required me to attempt to relearn my own champ from scratch. I found that I just didn't identify with the champ he became and stopped playing him. However, he is super strong and his playstyle is unique so this isn't me saying riot ruined voli (they didn't), but they did ruin him for me, which is skill issue ig. I came to this video for nostalgia lol.

I think the only thing I miss about old Volibear was a "buff" that Zilean and Volibear would both receive in game if they were on opposing teams. Zilean would receive "Armored Bear Hater" which simply had a description saying "In my day, we would never have allowed an armored Bear into the League of Legends." Volibear would receive "Chronokeeper Hater" which simply had a description that said "Not even Zilean could keep an armored Bear out of the League of Legends."

The only think that keeps new volibear back for being my favourite champion is his w. His new w is very gimiki, like you maul someone and then you run wait for your w cd to come back. One time i beat an olaf just by running away and press w , that wasn't fun at all. They should change his W to be an auto attack steroid. For example you press w and then your auto attacks deal bonus damage equal to your max health for 6 sec and you also get lifesteal and spell vamp for the duration. That would be so much better

New Voli is just an upgrade of the old. Played both for quite the time, and Voliber is one of those succesfull reworks. Preserving champion and playstile, modernizing kit and he isn't some irelia or akali (Like seriously, he's good but not broken beyond immagination)

The only thing i loved about Volibear is URF I never really played Volibear, maybe i have but that was once probably in solo Q However on URF id trade with anyone just so i could play Predator volibear Run at enemies fling them, use your roar to interrupt them, and its good for disengaging, id literally just run around the map and troll my enemies, just flinging them and knocking them back, no one could catch me, or escape me since he’s cooldowns are so short you could spam the 2 abilities in 1 second, basically locking them down.
