Concert Pianist and Composer Volker Rogall was born 1957 in Koblenz, Germany. He studied at the Cologne Conservatory in the master class with Pavel Gililov (former winner of the Chopin Competition, Warsaw). Since 1975 he has produced recordings and performed concert tours throughout Europe as both a classical and jazz pianist. In 1985 he began working as a composer for film and television soundtracks, and in 2006 he founded his recording studio, Ivory Studio Cologne.
Ivory II American Concert D features a Vintage 1951 NY Steinway D (CD 121) that has been the choice of great concert artists through the years. It has been impeccably brought to life in digital form by the award-winning Ivory II engine, and contains the full compliment of Ivory II's features, foremost being our acclaimed Harmonic Resonance Modeling for the realization of true Sympathetic String Resonance. Dear Musicians, my musical results come from Synthogy Ivory, the best and most serious Piano-Library for Professionals. We might discuss about Masterkeyboadrs. The point is: Get the right Library, even Ivory, and play it with Kawai VPC1 or clear Masterkeyboards like Lachnit. My favorites are hands and fingers. Ridiculous, what you are asking about controller. The point of view from Synthogy is to play and sound like on a piano or grand piano. Now we got it, so lets play and have some fun! This is the best sounding video on this piano plugin/vst so far. How did you manage to make it sound this realistic and the others simply do not come close to the body and fullness this video manages to capture.

It's all about one's musical ability, in the end, that is why 9/10 will not sound very good or musical despite having the best available equipment.

It's been 6 years and the sound is still amaze me, the other comes close to this is the Ravenscroft 275, I have to buy both to get the sound I really want. It's been 6 years and I still can't find anyone play like Mr. Rogall, I love the way Synthogy filmed him playing in his house, on an old keyboard just to make the point of a wonderful piano sound can be so good in any environment. Mr. Rogall can you record other Chopin or anything please, love to see you play and the dynamic is awesome. For those who wondered if they can get the sound that he played, I think Synthogy do not want to tweak the sound to make it sound good in this video because after you seeing this video and bought the sound and can't get it right you probably want to return it. I think this is just the sound come straight from the computer with a good sound card of course. I have the old M-audio sound card and with a pair of close monitor (Event) the piano sound came out just as in the video, without any tweaking. I played along with Mr. Rogall and the sound came out of my monitor just like it. Thanks Synthogy for such a wonderful product and thanks to Mr. Rogall for such a wonderful performance, it will last forever. Too bad I can't find him on any youtube. May be he's a AI? a Virtual player that Synthogy have been playing with us for 6 years....

Volker is playing the Ivory II American Concert D by Synthogy, a new virtual instrument that recreates a 1951 New York Steinway D Concert Grand. Yes, the sound reproduction of the VI is the same using your own MIDI controller.

Brilliant sound. Full bodied, clear mid-range, and just the right amount of reverb. Have been using both Ivory 2 and American D for a while now and even with a great deal of setting adjustments, I don't get this amazing sound. Clearly, studio plug-ins have been used (EQ, Comprehension, Reverb, etc.) have been added. If I'm wrong (and I admit, I hope I am) please "SynthogyVIDEO" reveal what American D setting and "adjustments" have been done here, please!

He is using an ancient Yamaha controller which was designed in the DX7 era. The MIDI velocity value range does not even go up to value 127 like modern MIDI controllers. I think it cannot exceed 100. Ivory can be even more dynamic when playing with a modern keyboard controller.

This is false, the KX88 transmits midi values from 0-127. The DX7, DX5 and some others only transmit up to 100.

Damnit.. Very realistic sound of a Grand ! I think, with a good pair of speaker this really comes close playing a real Steinway. Was thinking to buy the package with: Bösendorfer 290 Imperial Grand, Steinway D Concert Grand & Yamaha C7 Grand.. But this Steinway D model from 1951 really rocks ! Is it possible to get the settings used in this recording? Thanks :)
