Your comment broke my heart and made me think of my own VW experience. Much more recently I bought my first VW a few years ago. I got the ID4 that is the Beetle's 'spiritual all electric successor.' I got it because I wanted to try an electric car and it was cheap at the time. I like it a lot but last summer my 6 year old nephew came to stay with me. He was fascinated by how the car's headlights raise up when the car turns on. To him they were eyes and the car was waking up. He named it, he would tell it good night and even said good bye to it when he left. Maybe VW really did capture the spirit of the Beetle?

The most beautiful commercial about a car ever made! The car, the young boy who becomes the old man, "Let It Be" (John Lennon/Paul McCartney) from the final Beetles album (1970) sung by children (🌻), and the lightning bug to symbolize where VW is headed (see ID4) all amazing references of "The People's Car," the company that built it, and the people who bought and drove it. Thank you to every single person involved with the making of this commercial. This is a masterpiece! Love, 🐰

The beetle was also the longest in production car ever that used the same platform for all those years. Another car manufacturer claims they have the best selling car of all time but the platform was not the same while it was restyled numerous times. The beetle was the same platform with no changes. Volkswagen produced almost 22 million of the original beetle with the engine in the back before the new beetle came out.

I remember when I was a teenager back in 1999 or 2000 my father's girlfriend's daughter had a brand new Beetle in THE most beautiful lavender color. I had never seen a car that color before. I couldn't believe when I first got into her car how roomy and comfortable it actually was because it looked so tiny from the outside. I rode with her a few times, and I remember one of the times she was blasting the song 'Where My Girls At?' by 702 on repeat and we sang it over and over like 6 times.😂 I loved that car! One day she came by and I didn't see her Beetle, so I asked her what happened to it and she told me that it was stolen. I was sad like somebody had stolen MY car lol! She hadn't even had that car for a full year before it was stolen. When she replaced her Beetle she got a car of a totally different make and model. So 1999/2000 was the first and last time I ever rode in a VW Beetle and now they don't even make them anymore.😭
