What a fantastic review - reminiscent of 90s-era Top Gear, before the show went Clarkson mad. Measured in delivery and comprehensive in scope - I feel much better informed about what to expect from the R now. Thank you for the excellent upload!

Pretty sure the focus RS did NOT have a similar system. It actually overdrove the rears to induce infinite drifts. But you can imagine what happens if rears are overspun and the center clutch pack tightens not up to drift. It overheats.

Correct and the small differential was plagued with overheating when pushed at a track.

I got my new one last week and it is very very capable but it absolute does not do 35mpg on the school run, more like 25mpg

That engine can be tuned, I’m more interested in A) how that all Wheel drive system functions B) drift mode and C) “special” I also like the blue for R color

Nice and accomplished as this car maybe with everything that everyone would want (performance pack) the price sadly goes well above that crucial £40,000 tax threshold that makes this vehicle very expensive. Personally I've just ordered a m135i with a few added options that appeal to myself it comes in at just short of £40,000 ok its not as track focused as the Golf r is but as I mentioned above unless you're willing to pay for the extras and long term costs then this car although very appealing soon become a little less appealing once you add all the costs together

Because Audi S3 had less power, is slower and does not get the R Performance Torque Vectoring Rear Diff that's in the Golf R, that will only be fitted to the new £60k plus Audi RS3 😀.
