Worked at a Vw dealership in the uk and they were never covered up like that when arriving at the dealership. They literally has some white plastic on the bonnet and roof. Obviously different treatment for different countries.

i have 16 years old Passat manufactured in Emden. Engine AHU, 90PS. Engine is still in very good condition. I keep this car, because nowadays manufacturers all over the world follow funny approach "Lean" activities, which means in reality poor engine, poor thin materials etc. Good cars ended in the years ~2000.

I happen to think the US version is awesome. i test drove one & it's softer, yeah, but it still has that confident, German feel to the driving. It's very nice.

@JonathanRPham Personally I like this system having different trims with loads of standards and less optionals items. This is one of the reasons they could get the car from the factory to the customer so fast. I would like other companies especially german car manufacturer to adopt this system. I mean I was searching on this and I found out that all these small manufacturer get their car deliver faster to the customer. For example a Jaguar XF will take 15 weeks whereas BMW will take 20 - 25.

@seauryakumar Built-to-order Passats (B7 Generation, 2011 onwards) from production line to the UK, take up to TWENTY WEEKS, yes 20 weeks. But that's the same with any built-to-order car. 4-6 weeks is incredibly fast! I ordered a Passat in June...won't receive it til October, but that's exactly the same as my Mazda6.

I'm so sad they don't bring the passat wagon to canada!

@thetwopointslow You could still get the Euro Passat here in the states it's the prior body Passat we had before this new generation but it doesn't have the new revised front and back end I felt the same about the new Passat till I started researching it and now I thing different I like it now motor trend had nothing but good things to say about it and they are always negative on a lot of cars.

It takes about 4-6 weeks to get a Passat from production line to UK that is if everything goes right. If not they’ll make you wait for months. Thats the only thing I don’t like about VW.

I'm almost hesitant to get a new Passat at this point. I own a 99' Passat 1.8t and at 19 years old and 190k it's still running well, no signs of slowing down any time soon either, but I want something nicer and more modern. Would it be worth it to go to this new B7 generation or should I just stay B5?

a money pit the man sed ? I had a 1997passat all I did was service it oils brakes etc and I drove that for 197000miles then I bought a merc 220cdi ?I sold that after 10months it was too finnikey and now have a 2004passat if you want a money pit buy a merc cause the passage bomb proof

@JonathanRPham I completely agree man that is a waste of time. I ordered a Mitsubishi got it in 8-10 weeks.

Agreed! The real VW's available in the US are the Golf, GTI and Jetta Sport Wagan. Buy them before VW decides to dumb them down like the rest of the VW line up.

@seauryakumar I completely agree with you there. Having over like a million combinations (no exaggeration) for trim/engine/wheels/paint/upholstery/equipment etc etc is just STUPID - but the Germans love it, because that's what makes them German, they charge you for every little extra and you're left with an expensive list. That's extraordinary! But then I suppose Jaguar demand is lower, but BMW should have the facilities to handle a larger higher/more specific demand!

Good god I love the Passat Variant, I really wish we had it in the US. But no, we have to have some weird US version of the Passat. Sometimes VW comes up with the darndest things :/

the Jetta SW is not actually a jetta but the Golf SW, its only called jetta in the US and Canada for the rest of the world its golf because it shares its features with the Golf, apart from the boot its all the same as the golf, not the jetta

VW sucks. After 5 years I had to replace the AC compressor, the roof fabric got loose and bulged down, all knobs snipped off with finger nail dents, etc.... Low quality stuff they use to build the car. Probably purposefully done so as they want to sell you another one after five years.

Too bad the VW becomes a money pit after 5 years, my friends and me started to dump money in our cars after year 5 and 6. 300 here, 250 there, and 750. Check engine lights, AC that went out 3 times, Oil gaskets leaking, door locks that stop working. Just was not built for South Fla weather.
