Volkswagen Vanagon Floppy Mirror Syndrome. Quick, Easy DIY Fix.

I've seen more than a couple people running around lately with floppy Volkswagen Vanagon mirrors. Lets take a quick look at what it takes to tighten up the mirrors and fix the Floppy Mirror Syndrome that is plaguing the Vanagon Community. JC.

Why the Thumbs down!? If you give a video a thumbs down then at least explain why. Jeremy always gives great content and entertaining videos. Three thumbs up from me just to cancel out the trolls. Thanks JC for the small things!

A thumbs down from me. This won't last but a short time. Each time you tighten that bolt, it pulls from the plastic seating. The reason the mirror is slack in the first place is that the bolt is coming away from the seating I solved this problem permanently on my Syncro. It's so many years now, I've practically forgotten, but I removed that bolt completely. Then drilling from the inside, I drilled right though to what is the top. I then widened the hole at the top, and threaded the bolt back in from the top. I cannot recall at this time though, I I used a longer bolt or was able to reuse the old on. I plugged the hole at the top with some black silicone. Perhaps I will do a video one day ;-)

The fix is throw them away and put truck mirrors on . I couldn’t take them . Bought a new set and two weeks later ordered a set of truck mirrors. One of the best upgrades I ever made to my Westy

Camp Runamuck I would love a set of truck mirrors and plan to get some eventually. $170.00 per side is just a little tough to swallow. JC.

I get that ..it’s just crazy . Pretty easy to get 30 to 40 thousand in a 2wd Vanagon ..Mine has keep me broke for years but I love it so much I just keep adding stuff year after year and the end isn’t in sight yet ..I’ve probably got 5 times in mine what the insurance would pay me on it . But they are nothing out there quit like a Vanagon and it’s like a high every time a new part arrives for it

I thought this would be a new way of fixing the mirror! The technique you're showing is surely just the actual, official way of tightening them? Mine have the nut screwed down as tight as they will go but the mirrors are still floppy! The man with the hose you mention has probably done the official way and gone as far as the nut will go. Only a hose or a cable tie will do it!

Some mirrors are beyond tightening. New mirrors are about $20.00 each. Sounds like its time to replace yours. JC.
