Hinata’s shoulder wasn’t slumped when he was looking at Hoshiumi, he actually bowed subtly (in a manner of respect) when their eyes met before going on his way. The team and Kageyama were worried Hinata might get discouraged when he sees someone with the same height limitation as him being so impressive and skillful in areas that Hinata is lacking at, while being hailed by the caster as the little giant. To their surprise, that encounter had an immensely positive impact on Hinata, as he was ecstatic and quite happy to be able to observe and meet someone who could inspire him and be a reference to what Hinata could achieve, and that explains why he said “I’m happy I’m here”, and why Kageyama and the others were smiling and happy to know that they had nothing to worry about.

Bokuto is team captain for his people skills. Despite what a mess he can be on court and handling himself, he's actually one of the best in the series at understanding and dealing with other people. Look at how he dealt with Tsukki's motivation issues; he acknowledged how he felt, that it was different to how he felt and that that's ok. Fukurodani members mention a few times, when against stronger teams, he's the one encouraging and leading them and not getting nervous. When he needs to be a leader he is, but his team generally doesn't need a firm leader.

27:34 Hey, Coach! Kageyama sees in Hoshiumi everything that Hinata could be. Hinata has the potential, but because of his lack of a proper team, none of the refinement. At Karasuno, he has only just begun to become what he could be. Recall back to after Hinata and Kageyama got back from their camps, and Kageyama tried to teach Hinata the right way to jump (and Daichi said, "GO HOME!"). He was trying to teach Hinata how to jump like Hoshiumi. Now that Hinata has met the real deal - this generation's christened Little Giant - Hinata has someone to emulate. Kageyama's smirk is a mixture of satisfaction, excitement and enthusiasm, because now Hinata will push to become that player Kageyama as a setter needs Hinata to be. Kageyama told Hoshiumi that he was a good reference. Now we know who Hoshiumi is a reference for.

Hey Coach! Great reaction as always, I was looking forward to this one! Regarding the Hoshiumi scene, I wanted to provide the manga version of the speech he gave the reporter, since I feel it's a little better worded: "Personally, I think too many people believe just being short is somehow the end of the world. Yes, being short is a disadvantage... But it isn't a sign of incompetence!" Hinata felt inspired by Hoshiumi not because he wanted to surpass or beat him, but because Hoshiumi's existence means his dream of playing at a higher level despite his height is attainable.

Remember Hinata's words "I'm so happy I made it here." Hinata said this because meeting Hoshiumi changed his life. For the first time, he met someone who is in his same situation who is so much better than him. This directly challenged his identity as an aspiring "Little Giant" and showed him that he still has a lot of room to grow, because Hoshiumi is an all-rounder who can do anything and Hinata sucks at serves and receives. Hinata now feels a newfound passion to improve the areas where he is weak, which is why he is so grateful to have been able to come to an environment with so many phenomenal players. It just makes himself better. Remember the words because it will come up later, when Kageyama finally says it back to him when he is placed in an identical situation.

"He who laughs in the face of grit, will be made to cry by grit" I interpreted this as if you don't take hard work seriously, you're going to be embarrassed by someone who out hustles you. Like you have mentioned before, talent alone only gets you so far. It's also fitting that Hoshiumi picked that shirt because he knows how hard he worked to be a great all-around player despite his height. He's basically saying "you'll be sorry if you take me lightly".

Coach, the reason why Hinata was with his shoulders looking down was because he was bowing, thanking Hoshiumi for the wisdom or the mindset. Hinata's idolizes the previous Little Giant but has never been in person with someone that has the same situation than him and is consider as great of a player as Ushijima or Kageyama. So when Hoshiumi said his phrase, Hinata took all that as a lesson that he can be like any other player that he admires even if he is small. That his size should never be in the equation.

In the manga we see a little more of the Miyagi girls team. Karasuno’s prefecture Miyagi has a super strong girls team that has won national competitions. Tanaka’s friend is on that team (Niiyama) . And, I don’t think it’s really a spoiler since it’s past the main storyline and from art, not from the Manga itself but Hinata’s baby sister Natsu wears the Niiyama uniform showing that she is so inspired by her big brother that she falls in love with volleyball and despite her height makes it onto the best team in the prefecture.

Hey! I noticed something and wanted to share this with others. When Kageyama said to Hinata, that he can fly higher, he couldn't explain how, so he just made sound to describe it, he simply meant that compared Hinata's Jumps to Hoshiumi's, Hinata while jumping, looks like he is about to fly, but in fact he's jumping on small curve like "_/" , while Hoshiumi jumps straight up like " _| " . The time that they both reaches his higher point is different and also Hinata loses his jump energy to travel further and not higher. It's just me thinking about something that may not make any sense but doesn't that sound about right?

@thatguyshaq7053
@thatguyshaq7053 2 жыл бұрын
You're right, Hinata seems to be jumping off pure natural talent right now. But there are mechanics you can apply to get the most out of your jump, which guys like Hoshiumi, Bokuto etc. seem to use. So Kageyama noticed this hence why he told Hinata he can fly even higher then tried teaching him how to jump and Hinata even said he just jumps and doesn't think about it. Hinata also tried putting thought into the jump and he was unable to control it just yet, due to not having much practice and the ridiculous extra height he got.
@bearinabag2448
@bearinabag2448 2 жыл бұрын
Getting your approach jump more strictly vertical while still using full momentum is actually a skill that takes a good while. It’s also more than getting higher. Your peak can be closer to the net without falling into it. That’s a good observation of the mechanics driving the enigmatic anime, “you have more potential” line. I had never super thought about it but haikyu does ground itself in reality so they would need a real explanation.

Yes, the boom jump is accurate, when kageyama explained it was regarding the footjob, the sounds he did was basically cuz Hinata does not use the full extension of his feet just the tips to jump and therefore he can exert the same force on his jumps unlike Hoshiumi who mastered that "technique" already

One of the things I like the most about haikyuu is how they write the opponents, as Suga said Hinata is always eager to play against taller and stronger players, but other teams aren't limited to that, Hoshiumi is a top caliber all-round player and also we met Takeru from Wakunan a high level spiker specialized in wipes. Basically, the show puts a variety of characters each one with his own abilities and disvantages, so you are not constantly watching the David vs Goliath matchup everytime. Also, Hoshiumi fills an important role that had been missing in the Story. Hinata was unknown, he had the natural instincts and abilities but never had proper training. Hoshiumi is exactly that, the answer to the question "What could had been if Hinata had properly trained?"

The reason I think Bokuto comes off as such a good guy, despite having some self centered qualities, is because those qualities don't come at the cost of anyone else. Like the fact that he just wants to stand out from the others and show off but also wants others to do the same. I love that about haikyuu and the story. Unlike a lot of other sports anime the other teams aren’t made out to be evil or just a stepping stone for the main characters. They’re used to show a variety of playing styles and team dynamics that exist in volleyball. And they’re so fleshed out and each person has a unique personality that you identify and see yourself as a player in them.

Man coach, I was so excited when you paused the episode to talk about Bokuto's back and the animation effects to make that scene more dramatic, but, you missed something SUPER amazing about that scene. At least to me. at 13:32 it zooms in to show you the t-shirt, which Hinata wanted to buy because Bokuto wore it during the summer training camp back in Season 2. It reads as follows: 1. Your back should be an inspiration to your teammates 2. Smash every wall in your way 3. Every ball should be spiked I love this scene because it goes from that shot to the t-shirt, to the most dramatic shot of Bokuto's back we see in the show or in the manga. It just goes with the number one on the t-shirt so well and its an overall great scene. Anyway, I hope you like this, I didn't notice on my first watch through but once I did, it quickly became one of my favorite scenes in Season 4.

Happy New Year of the Tiger, Coach ! I guess someone already answered that but the Seagull scene was because Kamome ( Kamomedai, Hoshiumi's Highschool) means seagull. The school's name may have a different writing and meaning than seagull though. It's the same with Nekoma, where we take out the "Neko" to get "cat" or the "fukuro" in Fukurodani, to get "owl" (hence the new animals in the commercial breaks). We met Kanoka, the girl from the bonus scene, when Noya was going to have "his pervy accident", if it helps you remember. Thanks again for your work, detailing details in volleyball AND animation. You're the best reactor.

I started playing volleyball 6 years ago thanks to Haikyuu and I've been watching all your tutorials and open gym/tournament videos since then. I started helping out my coach with the beginner and intermediate practices when his first child was born because he understandably wanted to spend more time at home with his family and I've used a couple of tips from your tutorials on them and it's so rewarding seeing them get better! It's a nice "coming full circle" moment seeing you react to the show that introduced me to this sport all those years ago, one of my biggest wishes is getting to attend one of your practices if I ever happen to be in the US which is a little difficult right now but maybe one day! Keep up the good work, Coach 💪

Hi coach! About Kageyama smirking at Hinata, he makes that face primarily when Hinata pulls ahead of Kageyama or Kageyama’s expectations of Hinata. Kageyama’s a realist, and comes up with limitations all the time (an example would be during the first training camp when he wouldn’t let Hinata open his eyes ‘cause it would be “impossible” to evolve quick enough for the next tournament), and Hinata consistently breaks through those ceilings. It’s not limited to the court either, Kagemama smirked when Hinata stood up to Ushijima the first time the three met, Hinata being competitive while Kageyama stood silently. Kageyama deeply admires Hinata, and has since the beginning of the series. In the first episode when he asked “what have you been doing for the past three years?” Hinata took it as an insult, but Kageyama was really voicing his jealousy, respect, and frustration. He’d spent countless hours honing his craft, and here was someone with more raw athleticism and a higher mental fortitude than him lacking in practice. That’s why he wouldn’t set to Hinata until he’d worked on receiving in the beginning, and that’s why he recently coached Hinata on jumping technique. He’s trying to raise Hinata to the level he knows he can reach This time he was expecting Hinata (just as many of us did) to be intimidated, jealous, and/or disappointed to see a player his height that was better than him, but instead Hinata was grateful and invigorated. Kageyama smiled because, just like he had time and time again, Hinata pulled ahead of Kageyama’s expectations

Major poses are called Key Frames in anime production. These are often done in house, along with the character design. The in between frames are often outsourced - even offshore to Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Perhaps China now. Also Bokutoh being captain is clearly a way to manage his motivation.

Hoshiumi's character is like a representation of what Hinata could've become if his volleyball journey had begun much earlier than it did. Hinata was always hooked to volleyball since little but could only grow since he joined Karasuno. It also show what's possible for him to become and that he isn't wrong on trying as hard as he does.

The way I interpreted that confusing scene was that Hinata wasn't slouching his shoulders, he was bowing to Hoshiumi in thanks for eloquently defending short players and Kageyama was smiling because seeing Hinata motivated tends to motivate him in a feedback loop. Also, the girl's team in the post-credits scene are at nationals representing the same prefecture as Karasuno is and the girl who has a crush on Tanaka is their ace and his old elementary school friend he bumped into before the opening ceremony.

Hinata wasn't sad when his shoulders were slumping, he bowed in respect and gratitude towards Hoshiumi. I think it was very liberating for Hinata to meet someone who was equal in height, someone who is more powerful and has made it in a sport where height gives an advantage. Hoshiumi's speech was basically everything Hinata told himself when he had to train by himself. Size isn't everything on the court. Sure, it helps but training, dedication and sheer will can often close that gap compared with someone who has plenty of height but lacks the will to train and push themselves. Basically through Hoshiumi's gameplay and words, he has shown Hinata that if you put your mind to it, you can be anything you want. Hinata doesn't have to be huge in order to be a successful middle blocker, nor does he have to be the Ace to score points.

Hey coach, so the guy crying who you thought was his middle school upperclassmen was the captain of Karasuno when Daichi, Suga, and Asahi were freshmen. He was Daichi's Daichi figure when Coach Ukai retired so he was crying because Karasuno lost and he was encouraging Daichi and them to aim high and try to reach nationals again by saying "if the chance comes, you have to take it". The guy with the beige green jacket with the psychopath look was the captain when Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Ennoshita were freshmen. I believe you were confusing Daichi's captain with Ikejiri who was his middle school classmate who didn't try hard enough and lost to Karasuno's in season 1. Also this may be important for future episodes, but team captains are usually those with jersey #1. Bokuto has jersey 4, he's more of an ace than a captain.

One cool detail to notice when hinata and hoshiumi met. When Hoshiumi asked what is hinata's heigh, hinata added a centimeter and waited a bit before answering, but when he was asked his maximum jump high he responded 333cm imediatly. this shows that Hinata is perfectly confident in his jumping skill but he still is jelous about others heigh. He waited a bit before answering about his heigh cuz he still lack confidence, but things might change when he hears Hoshiumi's interview where actuallly hoshiumi has no problems with his heigh.

In animation today a lot has moved to digital. The characters and illustration are hand drawn (sometimes digitally on a tablet depending on the animators preference), then the coloring is done digitally as well as compositing all the drawn layers together (no more multi plane camera required) and post effects are done on a computer, typically the Adobe suite is used for 95% of the digital work, after effects, illustrator, etc. In the compositing stage you can also add accurate reflection in windows or reflective surfaces and change the transparency of the reflection to match the surface, add lighting flair to the character animation, add digital effects like fire and smoke or lightning in after effects. Not to downplay the effort because a good compositor adds so much and a bad compositor can flush all the efforts beforehand down the drain. Digital doesn't mean it's not hard work

Coach, for the halftime scene. The Hinata crow is actually about how Hinata developed as a player. The part Hinata crow fly upward quickly to the top and suddenly plunged is about the first part of the story where Hinata is so focused with his quick attack till the point he was blocked and when Hinata understands that he actually cannot do anything without Kageyama set just like Shiratorizawa coach said to him. Then the Hinata crow that slowly flies upward to the top shows that Hinata starts over on learning how to receive and analyze the ball step by step from the bottom (Hinata as a ball boy) to what he will become at the end of the story. This is just my opinion tho.

The glare that was added on bokuto's pan up scene is done on a process called compositing. It's basically the post-editing part of animation that comes after the coloring process, which includes brightening up certain parts of a scene, and even having the characters blend in more with the background. The one they did for that scene is pretty simple, as softwares nowadays let you move the lens flare by its own, with minimal effort, but it still is a cool detail which was most likely added thanks to the episode director's supervisions. It's nice that coach spots those details, too!

The principle of major and minor poses is something that can be found in the animation process of most anime. The major poses are called key frames and usually the studio brings in the big animators to draw the key frames, and then other animators to fill in the blanks with the in-between frames. At least that's how i understand it, correct me if I'm wrong
