Volquest answers your Tennessee football, baseball & recruiting questions in the June 6 mailbag
00:31 CorrytonVawl17: Faizon Brandon compares reasonably to who?
2:01 We need to settle in and get used to being in the conversation for a shot at Omaha consistently, don’t we?
2:31 Volzfan1998: Is Danny White in the process of reworking Coach Vitello's contract? If so, I would think he should be the highest paid coach in the SEC.
9:21 Volcrush93: Seems to be a good time to grade this staff on evaluation and recruiting overall as well as coaching and development.
11:33 BigOleVawls26: Do you all have any thoughts on why we backloaded the OV schedule instead of bringing at least a few bigger name guys in earlier? I don't pretend to know if that is the right or wrong move. I'm just curious on your thoughts on the reasoning behind the strategy.
18:45 Athrun: If his recruitment ended today, would you say that Tackle [David] Sanders was a vol?
20:26 What recruits do we have to worry about the most not making it to Knoxville because he commits before his OV to UT happens?
21:22 Have the last of the HS kids finally arrived on campus? Any early word on them?
24:51 What senior needs the best senior season to have a chance at being drafted?
26:22 SamSmith2233: Cain, scout on Kenton Deverman, and with him being a Missouri kid, when will he be committing to Tennessee? If Tennessee survives, Deverman, do the purple aces have anything else that could give the boys trouble?
27:38 Tennessee is clearly on the easier side of the bracket, Natty or Bust?
31:45 Imissdenariusmoore: In terms of on-field production, what was the best recruiting class UT has ever signed?
33:38 Breasee: A lot of people say Tennessee can’t reach their ceiling if they don’t break into that top 4-5 of the SEC in the recruiting rankings. Considering Tennessee’s success in the transfer portal, is there any truth to that anymore? Can Tennessee continue doing what it’s doing and reasonably expect to compete for a title?
35:22 The ADaug: It seemed like last year the staff had trouble closing on recruits. Is that changing this year? If so, what is different?
36:01 DolittleVol: What is the timeline and the primary competition for Faizon Brandon? Is he the type of personality that other recruits are drawn to? Do you foresee him being active as a peer recruiter?
36:46 NWGAVOL: How confident are you that Will Brooks could hold his own as a starting safety in the fall?
37:49 What’s the confidence level that Tennessee can flip the momentum in the Josh Petty recruitment going into his OV?
38:35 DalVol5: Austin has said he expects the staff to not run Nico as much because of QB depth and his importance. Would you say that he runs more or less or in between these numbers:
78 attempts, 299 yds, 3.8 avg, 7 TDs (Joe ‘23)
104 attempts, 430 yds, 4.1 avg, 5 TDs (Hendon ‘22 11 games)
41:00 WHVOL: How many recruits will we pick up in June by position?
41:18 Leosbuddy: The higher end recruits seem to be on constant unofficial visits. Given that the schools want peer recruiting, I.e., George MacIntyre, is it safe to say that the schools are paying a significant portion of these recruits to keep making unofficial visits?
42:14 HCMBrook: Who is a former Vol that didn’t make it in the pros that you would have loved to see take advantage of current eligibility rules(guys playing 5-6 years)? The COVID year will soon be gone, but who is a Vol that you wish had just one more year to cement their legacy as a Vol even though they didn’t pan out in the pros? I’ll go with Chris Walker
44:30 Donahue27: Question about Coach Elander. How much is he paid currently vs what he would be making if he took a head coaching opportunity? I realize we don’t play with Monopoly money, but is there a dollar amount Tony V sees as worth it to keep him on staff as long as possible? Any insight Cainer?
47:48 MaryvilleVol: Who’s gonna see the field/contribute first Okoye or Bradley?
47:58 RockyTopMojo: If each of you had a walk up song, what would it be?

Brett. So glad to hear you ask the other day on Locked on VOLS “Do athletes on non revenue generating sports get a portion of the overall sports department profits”? I’ve been suggesting NO for several months now. If I open a restaurant that loses money. I don’t get draw on McDonald’s down the road’s profit margin. They get their scholarship + any NIL they can generate. If they want a football paycheck let them risk a permanent limp on every play. Again, thank you Brett!

If this team plays like I hope and believe they are capable of then I think there could be a lot of young men get drafted and possibly rounds 1-3. Of course Pierce then Bru, Campbell, Pili, Big O, Norman Lott, Thornton, and I think Cooper could be good at the next level, I wish we had him another 4yrs.😊
