Pozdrawiam.

I worked for Mack Trucks, Inc on the assembly line for 12 years back in the 70s and 80s. Installed engines, transmissions, groomed engines for everything, mounted cabs on chassis as they came up the line, windshields, cab trim and a host of other jobs. Was a great time then and worked with a great bunch of guys.

Really nice video! It is a bit strange with a 12v system... By the way, you forgot to mention it's a 6x4 with two driveaxles in the rear :). That's not so common at least not here in Sweden. Most tractors over here are 6x2. Seems like a nice truck. Very simple and easy to maintain.

In América everything in truck and auto is typically 12 volt. Volvo probably installed 4 batteries for simple installation , replacment. More cold cranking amps the better ( CCA) :) I've been driving trucks for a long time. Oh , by the way those cats eyes are a very nice feature. Ummm.. love your videos . It's nice to see you explain the technical side of your truck. Stay warm :p

I took some notes during the video. If you don't mind reading what a mechanic has to say I will continue. If the hood release inside the truck does not work, the two latches can be released from the wheel wells. Support the hood while opening until it stops moving in case the struts are broken (it happens). When closing the hood make sure to push on each side to ensure the latches have locked. Not having air bags (cushions) on the steer axle is more of a reliability thing. Air bags tend to fail more often than simple leaf springs. If the engine shuts down while driving as if you had turned the key off, check the fuses that are in the battery box. American trucks regenerate while driving if operating conditions are met. The center pin of the trailer cord (Blue wire labeled "Aux") powers the trailer ABS and, if equipped, the trailer tire inflation warning light. If your truck is equipped with an engine heater (usually called "block heater") it will keep the engine warm enough to provide cab heat soon after starting the engine. The electrical connection for the block heater is usually below the driver's door. The red and yellow knobs for parking brakes (called the "dash valve") are different shapes so you can feel the difference without having to look at the knobs. The trailer brake lever is called a "Johnny bar". The suspension "dump" switch on your Volvo will only work when the key is in the "run" position. Lastly, if you come through Wisconsin, I have small kit of extra tools for you to keep in your truck. Take care and drive safe. Tim

Great video. The sleeper has a nice heater under the bottom bunk. At least most of them do. The engine in your truck is a Detroit diesel. There are 3 normal types of engines that are in the tractors in North America: there’s a cat, Cummins and a Detroit. I don’t know if Volvo has there own brand of engine or not. But the one in your truck looks like a Detroit. Be safe and keep it between the ditches. Thanks for sharing

Roy Wrenn peterbilt and kenworth have their own paccar motors.international makes the maxxforce motor which is a piece of crap imho Mack and Volvo make there own motors as well but all can be optional with a Cummins hope that helps. Hers is a Volvo they are green paint just like the Detroit.

You can only find Detroit engines on old Volvos from the 90s. Newer Volvos only have Volvo engines and a few of them Cummings . Only newer Freightliner trucks have Detroit on it.

American trucks have evolved and changed a lot (mostly for the better). I was a truck mechanic, and I can remember when trucks used a 24 volt starter which was connected to the batteries by a big series-parallel switch; 24 volt was only for starting and the series-parallel switch often failed, especially in the coldest weather. Many times mechanics have had to go out on the coldest day of the winter and change one out so the truck could start. The reason modern trucks use several smaller 12 volt batteries instead of 2 huge 12 volt batteries is because of cost, it's cheaper that way. Many things on modern trucks are driven by cost. The reason that modern cars and trucks have so many relays is for the same reason, cost and also weight reduction; copper wire is expensive and manufacturers can reduce costs and save a lot of money by using relays and smaller wires. Many things that trucks do or don't have is because of cost. It's all about money (or government regulations.) I can remember when old trucks didn't have power steering or air conditioning and they were under powered, that was before interstate highways and most highways had hills. A big truck would come down a hill at 70 or 80 miles per hour so that he could get a head start for the next hill, and by the time he got to the top of the hill he'd gone through all the gears and moving about 5 miles per hour. Some of the newer trucks are more comfortable and luxurious than many cars are.

Boy a lot of comments already. You are very popular, over here and back home in Europe. Do all your company trucks have cattle guards? That's we called the rack in front of your engine. Are you getting the miles you need? You showed us one run to Laredo. Are those common? Thanks for taking the time to show us what's going on. Be safe.

Great video Iwona. The American trucks can do regeneration while it is being driven. I think they started doing that in 2012. The earlier model year trucks needed to park and do the regeneration.. My 2012 International would regen while being driven. My 2016 Freightliner does as well.

You can get a airbag front suspension on American truck if you order it that way. Because of the longer wheelbase on American trucks is generally not needed for a smoother ride. Volvos have a longer spring that makes it softer. I drove the Volvo with an air suspension in the front row very nicely but was not much better than the standard leaf spring. The designers of these trucks have it all figured out pretty good.

Very good, you are learning quickly. Volvo trucks I hear are good, similar to Freightliner. Your truck seems to have smaller èngine. Being 12v is easier and cheaper to replace. Further they tend to last. Will be waiting on a video driving thru New York. Have a blessed day. Joseph

I learned about Diesel Exhaust Fluid when I went to buy a diesel car in December. No prior experience with diesels. The car is great once it gets warmed up, but it sure is cold blooded! Have you ever driven truck in Russia? I've watched a few videos from "Дальнобой с Юлией Лазаревой" (long-haul with Yulia Lazareva), where I have noticed what appeared to be both American and European style trucks in use, but maybe I just assumed wrongly that those were American. They were shaped like your Volvo here, anyway, rather than being flat-faced like every known European truck I have seen.

(kat. C). Nie będę się wypowiadał na temat zawieszenia. Z ciężarówkami (Jelcz ,Star) tylko miałem doczynienia. Teraz jestem operatorem maszyn drogowych i budowlanych. Pozdrawiam.
