Despite the very low mileage on my V50 the coolant tank and coolant look pretty bad. Replacing the tank and flushing the coolant with original Volvo coolant.

Thanks for your video, through my experience/problems with my oil cooler, with my s40 T5,that brown residue at the base of the water bottle is probably the oil from a leaking pipe or previously damaged/changed oil cooler. Cleaning the bottle and flushing the radiator should restore it.

It really helps too to use a compressor with venturi valve. Suck all the air out of the system and use the negative pressure in the system to suck new coolant.

There is a service bulletin regarding the coolant changing color to what you had. It’s actually most likely still fine and which can be confirmed by measuring with a hydrometer. I had the same thing in my S80, however as it checks out fine I’ve left it alone for now.

I have the red coolant in my S60 too. Probably they changed the coolant before I bought the car. On the Dutch Volvo forum they say that these 5 cilinder engines need the original green Volvo coolant like you put in your V50. Can you confirm that these engines need the green coolant? I will replace my coolant when weather gets better in Holland. In the moment it is freezing so I am not going to do that now. What do you think about your Volvo V50? Has it been a good car to you? I am thinking about trading my S60 in for a S40 with 2.4 litre engine. But I heard a lot of stories about the quality not being as well as the older S60 ones. They say the subframes will rust. I am thinking about the S40 or the same model S60 as I have now but then one of the very last model years 2008/2009.

@@lukemallory7832 thank you for your answer. Yes, that is my observation too. The S40 which has been developed under Ford has a lot less interior space than it's predecessor. In fact, this S40 is based on the Ford Focus which was a c segment car. The first S40 was based upon the Mitsubishi Carisma platform which was a much bigger car than the Focus. To me the amount of interior space is not that important. I don't have a family and I am always driving alone. Important for me is the original 2.4litre Volvo engine. Preferably with the 5 speed manual. Thanks for the information.

Hi, how do you find access to the service manuals? I need to change the electro-magnetic clutch on my 2014 XC70 deisel A/C compressor and cannot find any information on the method of doing it. Most of the recent Volvo cars seem to accessible through the wheel arch slash guard but on XC70 there is a subframe right across in front of the pulley. The subframe is also curved underneath the pulley so it is not possible to get a spanner on it. The compressor is also driven by a small belt behind the main alternator belt which has not tensioner to slacken the belt so I assume it must just be forced off. Any ideas? Is it something you ever had to do on your XC70? Hope you can help, thanks.

@volvosweden Dear sir I put a used instrument cluster in my 2012. Xc70 Premier, 2 in fact first one wouldn't light up but it would do a service reset and put old one back and it changed to the miles on to what was one the other one, they sent me a replacement and everything on it works but it kept the miles from the first try shows instantaneous mpg average mpg shows accumulating mileage shores ,can do the get rid of your maintenance reminder it had that showing up I guess it picked it up off of the second one reset the service reminder but now the guage it the fuel gauge shows totally empty and it won't show miles to empty because it thinks the gas tank is completely dry although it's showing me how many miles I'm getting instantaneously and how many I'm averaging is there some trick when you swap out clusters that you need to disconnect the battery or something so the whole system or reconnect or is it a programming problem from all I've seen you do with the newer ones I'm using the same model both of the ones they sent me are in pristine condition out of wrecked cars and up there both from xc70s and yet I can't just unplug one and plug another one back in and get either one of them to work fully functionally what on the world is going on in the computer's brain any tips on what I could do maybe disconnect the battery for a few hours or something to get the gas gauge to work and the miles to empty because everything else in it is working just fine without having to go to the dealer who wants $350 to diagnose it and most likely will tell me that it's a problem with the used clusters and they want $1700 US BUCKS for a brand new cluster William williambollinger@hotmail.com

Termostat does not open until 90 degree celsius. The heat you feel from the vents is from the Electric PTC element located down at the climate control unit. Please change the termostat and the temperature sensor when you allready have drained the coolant out. Termostat will fail eventualy. Mine has. 160.000km. Here in Sweden you dont need to use destilled water, you can take the water from in house tap. It meets the Volvo water specs.
