Hello Thom, I’ve been driving my brand new C40 RWD ER (MY2024, Fjord Blue) for a week now. I don’t feel any vibrations at 100 km/h, and there are no strange noises. It’s a wonderfully quiet car, with a fantastic comfortable suspension and amazing seats, giving a true premium feeling. Greetings from Zuidhorn

I've only had my 2023 C40 Twin for seven months, but I'm pleased to report that I've not had a single issue with the car. No steering vibration, computer problems, musty smells or anything else. I'm wondering if some of the problems experienced by 2022 model owners--software-related and otherwise--were worked out by the time the 2023 models came to market.

Same here, 1200 miles completed on my single motor with no issues. Most of those miles are my commute of which 80% is a steady 60-62mph. Perhaps the vibration is specific to the twin motor set up?

15'000km with my red twin C40 model 2023 and very pleased too! (Just have that same noise/vibrations at 100km/h but rarely stay at that speed 😂)

Thanks for the update; I have now owned my C40 for six months with no major problems. Had a rattle in the rear of the car and ended up being the exterior rear antenna plate on the roof. Funny enough, it was a 2-day job to fix and required them to take out the moonroof glass. Very odd. I found the Car Play works pretty flawless if you disconnect the car from Bluetooth and only use the wired connection. Lastly, I am bringing the car in again because when I flor it, the electric motor sounds almost like a gas engine, hoping it's not a serious issue.

Thank you for the humidity issue! I’m a 2018 XC40 R-Design AWD owner (Dino juice, sadly) and I usually “smell dampness” after every car wash and after heavy rains. I tend to open the sunroof for a while on the next ride, just to allow the interior to dry off a little bit. And it’s not the sunroof rubber sealing, because the other day I left the sunroof open for the first time when there was raining overnight and in the morning. I noticed that when I sat in the car, couple of minutes after the rain, but there was not a single drop of water in the interior! However, I still could smell dampness in the cabin.

Hmm. Sounds familiar. We recently had an issue with our S60 where gallons of water became trapped UNDER the carpeting inside the car during a heavy rain. The carpeting was wet and pillowed with trapped water. Dealership determined that water was leaking through the sunroof seal. There is a drain in the sunroof groove which evacuates water that finds its way through, but when the drain becomes clogged the water will leak into the frame of the car and can collect under the cabin floor. This water damaged some audio wiring components located under the cabin carpeting. Volvo seemed to be aware of the S60 problem and fixed the drain and replaced the damaged components. I wonder if your issue is similar.

I’ve decided it’s time for my XC40 Recharge Twin to go - it’s time for a change! Halfway through my ownership Volvo swapped it for another car as the dealer damaged the wiring system during a service and they couldn’t repair it. I’ve also had the car completely die twice as you have, a rattle from the water drainage tubes in rain, and some disappointing winter range figures. I agree with you on connectivity too. It feels out of date, and the infotainment system is just too basic My first and probably my last Volvo

Dank je wel! In USA, the first service for XC40 Recharge is two years. My 2017 e-Golf has 100,000 km and 5.5 years old and still on original tires, but they are a bit noisy due to several patches, so I will get new tires next month. I have not noticed any DCFC issues with our 2022 XC40 Recharge. Get 153 kW pretty reliably at 20% SOC or so. Have not needed to support cable.

Excellent review first few days I have experienced the ?\"shimmy" in the steering column or tires? But seems to have settled down over the last couple of weeks. Here are my feelings and review THanks again I am a C40 owner and here are my thoughts after a couple months- background I have had a LOT of cars from Triumph TR7 to VW Scirocco 16V, E46 BMW ZHP (3!), Merc SL 550, BMW M12 OG and F-150. And MANY more. Bottom line would I choose the Volvo again the answer is yes- as I will give it a 8 out of a 10- but as NO car is perfect at ANY price- this has some flaws that can be upgraded to make it better for sure. The Bads: 1> This car is just not the best AT HANDLING THE EXTREME HEAT Its Scandinavian and it shows. The cold weather Germans have gotten over the fact that its hot here in the USA- Volvo not so much. And this has nothing really to do with the AC its fine and does cool you off. 1A> On the C40 there is a “panoramic “ glass roof with NO slide shade under it. Just bare to the outside world. And I just parked it in the 105 degree Texas heat and after 3 hours the glass was almost SCALDING HOT TO THE TOUCH FROM THE INSIDE!! Really Volvo- you’re the “safe” company and some kid may be getting in and touch the roof inside their hand WILL get burned. I am going to get a Auto Heat Shield to put there during the summer months but really Volvo- think forward like the upcoming Fisker and make that a SOLAR roof and I will put up with it,-OR COVER IT AND DON’T GIVE US A SKY ROOF! Please note the CK40 SUV has a motorized shade sine the roof is flatter than the rear bend of the C40. 1B> Those seats of the “sustainable material” - I dont mind the concept but seriously “sustainable material” seats from almost all; manufacturers are NOT as supple and comfy as leather seats- even the fantastic BMW seats have taken a hit with their new "sustainable material" seats. . And when the sustainable fabric gets hot? It kinda stays hot against your body. Not terrible but not good and noticeable. I am going get custom leather seat covers made and sit on animal skin. I have not a problem with that. Oh and Volvo isn’t against leather- look at their higher end models in the showroom and those seats on the 90 series are THRONES like the Swedes have always made. But the “environmental saving” angle of electrics give them the green light to design in a lot of recycled plastic. Again the rest of the car no problem but heat being retained in the seats is not optimal in hot summers. 1C> While the AC does blow cold- its very good not great. But the “blowing” is the part that’s a bit annoying. On fan level 1 its quiet but doesn’t blow the AC hard enough ion aq hot day. So you simply go to fan position 2 but then you can REALLY hear the fan blow like you went 1 to 5! It works and you get cooler quicker but really? 2 needs to be programmed down some - maybe the cooling vents are not big enough to push air hence the loud-ish level 2? Either way- this used to be an issue 20-30 years ago- now I thought we got past this, 2> The SEATS themselves. Again while not bad- Swedish seats back to the Bertone days and Saab have always been VERY COMFY- these are not bad and are OK but could be sooo much better. It’s the sustainable material thing again. Tell you what Volvo- lets compromise- you make the rest of the interior "sustainable" and hard plastic recycled- but NEVER SACRAFICE seat comfort and feel. And if that means leather- its at least an option. Virtually no lateral support meaning you seem to sit on them rather than in them- This should not be an issue on a 62k vehicle, but it is. To Volvos credit you get an adjustable thigh support which is wonderful. The AVERAGES: 1> Its Quiet but not Lexus vault quiet- you may not care but it could be a bit quieter IMO 2> The range- not bad OK for me but they will probably lose some sales because of it- and probably shouldn’t. THE GOOD/GREAT: EVERYTHING ELSE! Cant list them all as I do really love this car despite the lack of hot weather attention. IN no particular order some standouts 1> It is FAST! Its addicting hitting the “gas” time after time lol- range goes down who cares. 2> It has a SIM CARD at NO COST or MONTHLY COST! (in USA at least) _ until you have used your car as a phone you wont understand but that’s a GREAT feature. 3> All wheel drive and very composed ride- very little lean into corners- not a sports car not supposed to be but its perfect for the times when you want to wind it out. 4> Perfect size I believe for city and country- not too big not small at all. And you sit up like an SUV but not too high- for my tastes and needs it really is a perfect size. 5> HK Sound system is way better than average- as a BMW guy who uses HK they are historically average- this one is better than you would think. 6> It looks as good as an SUV can look. Unless you have a Lambo Urus- SUVs usually are kinda blah- or you have to go to 100k to get the nice ones. But for under 60k this looks as good as can be- and the Fjord Blue color just rocks and has an EXCELLENT paint finish - like the car spent an extra 10 minutes in the paint bath. Just a great shade for this car and very Scandinavian. 7> Android Maps up in front of you 100% of the time is fantastic- and Android OS is all pretty intuitive, 8> Also comes with roof racks- NICE ones if you need such a thing. There's my review- it’s a keeper and will just have to “summarize” the car when the heat hits and cover that window- and will be getting some custom made leather padded seat covers soon.

3000km in on my MY23 C40 FWD Ultimate. Awesome car and really fun to drive even with the 230hp motor. I have an issue however with the fron topmount. It feels like the front suspension on the left side is broken, as it makes a very painful noise going over potholes or uneven roads and results in some vibrations inside as well. The dealership told me that Volvo are aware and an updated front topmount will be available as of 1st October. Very strange though. I also notice some slight vibrations in the steering wheel upon heavy acceleration and around/over 100km/h but being in Malta, I don’t get a lot of opportunities to go over that speed unless I drive up to Sicily. Other than that the car has been perfect. I haven’t noticed the dampness at all, but it is usually garaged overnight and also while at work so not left outside a lot.

For me one of the strongest points of my 2023 XC40 is Android Automotive. I used Apple Car Play with my previous 2020 XC90 and many times I had problems with it not connecting to the car. Now I'm not bothered anymore - when my butt touches the seat the Spotify starts to play and Hey Google navigates me to the destination and accurately calculates my battery status to and back. Why would I use Apple Maps? I have installed Audible and EasyPark as well, but amount of apps for Android Automotive is surprisingly low. No Parkster (parking app in Sweden) is the minus as I have to park with my phone. Otherwise I'm very pleased with Volvo Android combination. The display looks calm and elegant (not flashy like what I saw in Mercedes). I like the home screen that shows my selected apps in horizontal bars, for instance Google Maps showing destination ETA, distance and time, Spotify shows tittles and (with horizontal swipe) allows to Like the songs, etc. I'm an Apple user but I think Apple could do more in the business of Car Software, same for TV Software. Not many cars have Android Automotive and I think Volvo, Polestar made a good decision.

Hi Thom, New C 40 owner here. I also have some steering wheel vibrations from 105-115 km/h. Also worth noting I also drove 2 electric XC 40s and they too had it. I also have a buzzing sound when using the low intercity light setting, so have to keep it off or on high. (Interior panel lights) All that said. Absolutely love the car. So much fun to drive and looks sexy as hell. Total head turner. Love it. PS. I think the EX30 is a bit of a let down. No instrument panel to check your speed through the steering wheel is a safety concern imo. The car is also much smaller and not as imposing / aggressive looking as the C40.

MPH will be displayed in a large font in the top corner of the display closest to the driver. I would think it would as easy to glimpse that as to view it through the steering wheel.

Update, dealer spend a lot of time on my car to fix the vibrations on the front of my c40 single-front. Till now, no succes, beginning of feb2024 they will do a next try, put a lot of pico-sensors on the driveline, the data will be judged in Sweden by engineers. Hope they will found out what is the problem with my current car. But, more important, I came to an agreement with Volvo that they will swap the car with a new one! I decide to step over to the xc40, single motor extended range, and, rear wheel driven. Car will be ready mid April, looking forward to a new fresh experience..

Well, after 6 months and 12.000 km of having XC40 Twin Ultimate I am pretty pleased with it. Of course, some things can be better, but, ok, it is a great joy to drive it. Regarding 100 km/h vibration problem, it started to develop mild after the first 1.000 or 2.000 km. It was a minor problem, happening only when accelerating around that speed, or driving under load, for example - uphill, and it was mild and short duration. I was afraid that it will develop more pronounced, but au contraire - it dissapeared lately. Maybe because of very hot summer on Croatian coast, maybe will reappear, but so far so good :-) About updates - I had a major problem with a 2.09 update - the update did'n go properly and I had to go to 300 km away dealership with the car in pretty bad condition. They repeated update and since then everything was much, much better than before update. 2.09 really stabilized everything, before that i was feeling that I have a beta version of the car. The auto pilot / adaptive tempomat toggle with a button on the steering wheel is really great thing and I use it a lot. So, learned from that expirience, I didn't installed 2.10 because it is really minor update. But I can not understand Volvo not having a simple command of rolling back the update. Simply can not understand. So far not a single problem with charging, nor AC, nor DC. I am not pleased with a number of things. First is the seat. It is pretty uncomfortable with very thin foam and extending the leg support makes things just worse. When i sit back in my Audi A6 it is like you swapped a wooden chair to a really comfortable sofa. Then the sitting possition is not good. The wheel is too far away for comfortable drive. I do not understand who will use the wheel fully rectracted.. I think the wheel should be at least 5 centimeters more outwards. Then in Croatia (and in the whole southeast Europe) Volvo didn't arrange connection of the installed internet card with internet, which is really shame on Volvo, so I have to struggle with a connecton over the phone, which would be no problem if it works. But lot of times you have to repeat connection procedure which is frustrating. I do not understand why Volvo is not letting us to have our own SIM card installed when they are incompetent to make a deal with telecoms for my region. Automatic wipers are not of much use, especially whe the rain is intermittent. My 15 years old Audi has by far better wipers automation. FM radio has very low sound quality. Sound settings are practically non existant. Overall level of customisation and options are notoriously low and that is my biggest dissapointment. Infotaiment can be pretty slow, especially air condition section. One of big dissapointment is not having a key or button ignition. First, cutting the power for 12V outlet (which is JUST ONE IN THE WHOLE CAR - in Audi I have 4) and mobile charging power every time you lift your ass from the seat is stupidest thing ever saw in the car. It would really good to have oportunity when you exit the car for 10 - 15 minutes that it could be left in "on" state, like you are still sitting in the car, so when you sit back, all sistems are still up and running, and you do not need to wait for internet connection and other things to start. One of the best thing, especially in hot Croatian summer, is precondition. But most stupid thing is that you need to open the door in order you can start the precondition, which is, btw, burried in the menu. I need precondition maybe 10 times a day, give me a button on the main screen for that, Volvo! And let me set the default temperature. Ok, this are minor complaints, but there are too many of them. Volvo engineers should think about this little things and make a car which is not only really good, but a briliant luxury compact SUV car for just a little effort. One of the best thig is OPD. it makes you really much better connect with a car. Also, driving feel and overall comfort (just a better sitting part of the seat, please - back part is really good, one of the best) is really good. I am really enjoying the car and would not switch it for another. Really like it, especially after 2.09 update.

My Volvo XC60 had vibrations due to the driveshaft. My mechanic said, "Volvo can't make driveshafts". It was replaced at around 90 000 kms but problem started at 50 000 kms. It was replaced with a cheaper after-market driveshaft that is "better" according to my mechanic. I wonder if Volvo still has this driveshaft problem. If they do, they should fix it ASAP.

Hi Thom, can you indicate me how the buzzing sound from the internal lights was addressed (in wich video in case I've missed). I had a XC40 P6 23 with the same issue, but I could avoid it by adjusting the internal light intensity to the highest. I've switched to a C40 P8 22, but the same solution does not apply since it does not have the dimming option, just turning it on, off or medium, which all keeps the buzzing sound. Thanks in advance!
