Another handy one to keep in mind Zak.. re the main beam I suppose they reckon if you're driving with them at night you'll notice right away if one is gone. Whereas dipped are on constantly when you're driving in daylight ;)

Hi, Just wondered if you could help/advise please. I have a 2013 V40 and am getting a "Headlamp System Malfunction" message when I start up. However the lights all seem to be working OK when I switch to them individually, so it seems no bulbs have failed. What could be causing this message please? Could it be a sensor? Is there any way of overriding this warning message. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just bought an XC70. The battery goes flat if I leave parking lights on for 4 hours. Battery specialist says battery is good. Is this normal?

I have a question that perhaps you can help we with ? I have the 2011 Volvo S80 and I always found my low beams to be not very bright . I recently bought the Hikari 2022 LED bulbs on Amazon for $45 Canadian … the dealership wanted to charged me $140 ? But now the dashboard is indicating that I have low beam burnt bulb ? They seem to be working fine but I can not get the notification to turn off ? Some help would be much appreciated ❤. Love your videos

The issue is that the car is fitted with halogen or HID bulbs as standard that offer a higher resistance in the electrical circuit than LED. Therefore the car thinks that if the resistance in the electrical circuit is too low (because you have fitted LED's) the bulb must have blown. You can actually fit resistors in the circuit to account for this but its not something I've ever done :)

@@drivelife.channel thank you so much for your help … I have contacted the company Hikari , the maker of the led bulbs and they have told me that they shall send me the resistor free of charge . Now to look into how to fit the resistor 🤣 always something but I shall get there in the end

Apparently dipped beam 'always on' can be switched off with VIDA/main dealer request (or at least could on the P2 Volvos).

Yes, this is true. I had it done on my 2006 fee 70. The reason? Because the lights come on when you turn the ignition key to the on position, switch off while you’re turning the motor over, then come back on. Every time you turn the engine on the lights go on and off and back on. With a cold lightbulb this was leading to premature failure of the dip beam lamps. Since I had it switched off the lamps very rarely fail. Mind you, I do have to buy 25 quid to have this done. Probably should just get myself one of those gizmos, except the guy who turned mine off said you had to be registered with Volvo to have the correct software to do this. Please do correct me if I’m wrong about this.

Positiin bulbs are the amber corners u got on the side of your headlights(not the signal bulbs.) In North America theyre called side markers. Usually thyre only a North America thing... odd that Volvo include them in European models with halogens (not on some Xenon units)

A bit off the topic but what about the indicators. I don't know if this happens in any other else cars but if you just tap it gently it indicates 3 times and stops.... I do believe this is for motorway driving. Maybe you can correct me if am wrong 👍🏿 Edited on some s40 d5 I do believe you can turn off the lights completely 👍🏿
@tazdeveel
@tazdeveel 3 жыл бұрын
This also happens in my XC70 too! I've nicknamed it my "lazy indicator" & just give them a quick tap. At least you can't forget to switch them off as technically they were never switched on (indicators).

Yes, I believe this is supposed to be the case, three times for motorway driving. However, I think three times is utter rubbish. How often do you see somebody obviously tap the ‘three times function’ and pull out at the same time? Whatever happened to mirror, signal - for at least two or three flashes initially - before moving out into the next lane when there is no traffic coming. How many times have you had to brake - something you should never have to do on a motorway - when some idiot just taps there indicator stalk and pulls out anyway. It seems to be a generational thing - when I started driving people indicated before they got to the turn they want. These days, if you look around, you will see that nearly all drivers indicate at the moment they are going round the corner. What earthly use is this?! Telling people what you are doing at the same time as you are doing it is a pointless exercise, and you might as well not bother. Going even more off topic, but something you might be interested in - have you noticed how many people’s eyes are barely level with the top of the steering wheel? The highway code says your eye should be halfway between the top of the steering wheel and the top of the screen, i.e. in the middle of the ‘A’ zone. Absolutely nobody who drives a car with their eyes only just over the steering wheel can possibly see the road on either side of the vehicle, not at the front, less than about 10 feet away from where they are. I think this is one of the reasons vehicle manufacturers fit parking sensors these days - partly for the reason that so many people sit so low and can’t see anything in the proximity of the vehicle, and partly because people have become so rubbish at parking, something which used to be taught, something which used to be hammered home by driving instructors. Another thing that doesn’t help is the absolutely appalling real visibility in some cars. Paragraph look at that particular generation of Honda Civic, for example. You can’t see a damned thing out of the rear, so parking sensors are almost mandatory if you’re not to mangle the back of your chariot. And don’t get me started on how poor people are at using the door mirrors. Having been a bus and coach driver for many years in my younger days, these were the only thing you had to rely on. And help people even set the mirrors in their cars these days tells a story of its own. But I’ll give your eyes arrest now! But good of you to bring up the subject of the ‘three blinks per tap’ thing. Cheers, Bob the Nerdy Volvo Driver (btw, 2006 V 70 D5, probably around 200 hp, SE, factory lowered suspension and 17 inch wheels, horrible ride but excellent roadholding!)

I hope you have a good reason for the covert front grille lights, a reply in a previous video you described the black box next to the drives seat and tunnel console as a 12volt socket and USB charger that looks like a 2 way radio. Now both of these items fitted to a private car mm/mmm gets my nose twitching why what

The xenon headlight bulbs cost a ridiculou$ amount, and since we aren’t required to have daytime running lights here in the US, I’d rather not have them on unnecessarily. But since it’s weirdly illegal to drive with the parking lights on, I have to go into the menu to defeat the DRL’s each time I drive in daylight. I had to change the bulbs at 40k miles. But now I’m up over 220k on my second bulbs. I feel like I’ve cheated the system.

About parking lights. No one is using them. That's bad. Instead people are waiting on the curb or side of the road, on the dipped for even 10 minutes, engine on or off, blinding others. Not a part of the test, too bad. Zero culture.
