This engine is so awesome! I've got the exact same one but hasn't run in a couple years and I'm gonna rebuild it this summer!

Yep, I have this same engine in my 1968 fiberform Voyager. I just bout it about 2 weeks ago. It has not been ran since 1985. It was always in dry storage when not in use. Overall, the boat is in fantastic condition. I needed to replace gas tank, all rubber hoses, gas lines and all water lines, battery et. It started right up after sitting all those years. There was a bit of engine lifter ticking. This engine has solid lifters, so I set the lifter gap to proper specs, TICKING-B-GONE! It appeared to me the rocker arm cover had never been removed before, so the lifters would not have ever been adjusted before either. They are suppose to be adjusted every 50 hours of run time. Anyways, these appear to be great little engines, mine runs like a top and has lots of power. Just sayin'.

where is the idle timing or coke on these?

Running off the Battery? The Alternator does not look hooked up that is why it dies after he disconnects the Battery cable there is no complete circuit in the Electrical system to return Voltage back to the Battery to keep it running. Normally you can disconnect the Battery cable while the engine is running and it should have no effect.
