I sold my V60 and bought a V90 now with 30,000kms. Did the rear brakes and same procedure worked. ACC (cruise control) eats up rear brakes on newer Volvo’s. This trick will save you hundreds $$$ by doing it yourself.

2015 XC70. Your 9V battery trick ROCKS! Positive goes to the round end of the recepticle, neg. to the square end. Takes about 60 seconds to wind the piston all the way in. THANKS!

Thanks for this - I was about to throw in the towel when trying to figure out if I was going to do this job myself. Other videos mention computer, disassembly of the motor, etc. I followed yours and it worked perfectly! BTW, for anyone watching once you disconnect the motor you'll see two obvious legs to attach the battery to - it's not inserting into a black hole as it appeared here (that was just his camera perspective).

Very helpful, thanks. Note that at least on some models you do NOT have to remove the entire caliper to replace the rotor. Just pull the two bolts holding the piston/pads and angle the rotor out.

This is AMAZING! Thanks. 9 volt battery worked great and took all of 10 seconds. So glad I found this video and didn't disassemble the electric parking brake actuator like all the other videos tell you to do. Thanks again!

I did the same on my S80 V8 yesterday, but with a cable from the battery. Great job!

The 9V battery did not work for me... used my lawnmower 12V battery and it worked! Need enough juice for the motor to turn on. Was glad it was not a burned out motor or something else. Brakes were SO easy once that motor is retracted. Thank you so much for the good advice.

Just done this on my 2019 XC60 and it works with a 12v drill battery but not a 9v cell. Saved me a huge amount of heartache and money 🎉

Good video. I wasn't aware of the Electronic Parking Brake complication until I tried pushing back the caliper like I usually would and nothing happened! I found a power supply to an old toy that put out 7 volts and that also did the trick.

I have a $5000 Snap-on scanner which has a computer based method of retracting the e-brake calipers. Your method is cheap, faster and foolproof. Thanks!

There are very few videos that show this 9V battery trick - brilliant! I was hesitant to disassemble the EPB motor, as it is sealed with a rubber ring gasket. If that is damaged or doesn't seal tight, the motor can be contaminated. With the 9V battery trick, retraction is simple, fast and assures that the motor's intact. Thank you!!!

Simply brilliant move with the battery. Saves taking the electronic parking brake assembly off!

Great trick. On my s80 9v battery didn't have enough power, ended up cutting end off a 9V 500ma DC power cord/transformer and that did the trick.
