After a month long trip to the machine shop we finally get the Volvo Penta b20 AQ130 red block back. In this update video we return the block back to the engine stand and discuss our plan for putting it back together and getting it back into the boat. Thanks for watching!

Easy to mount, had mine out 3 times new gimbal bearing and bellows. My 4 cylinder is in good shape1993. Runs great. Good luck on the rebuild. Take your time. It’s going to be great.

Hello, For marine use brass casting plugs are used instead of steel. Several differences between marine and automotive. Alternators and starters are spark protected with grounding screens for another. Your manual should be a Volvo marine version rather than a standard auto one. Volvo in that time frame was hands down the best I/O with several patents that prevented other manufacturers from being competitive.

Love your videos, guys. I've got my eye on a project boat right now that will need some fiberglass repair and it has a Volvo redblock engine in it. I've never owned a boat but I've owned lots of Volvos and I believe that the "redblock" engine is actually the later overhead cam design that came in the Volvo 240 series cars. What you have there is the B20 pushrod engine that came in the old 122 Amazons, the P1800s and the 140 series cars from back in the 60s. Not to sweat though because that is a damn fine engine. If it seized up, someone must have abused it because that's what it would take to ruin a B20. Ah, memories of my dad throwing his tools all over the garage and screaming profanities when he was trying to sync those twin SU carbs - virtually impossible without a Uni-syn. ROTFLOL!

thank you for the kind words and info! Boats are a lot of work lol I’m sure we will have tons of fun running the engine when in the car. The engine seems pretty robust the way it’s designed.

I have two engines like this one (aq130) and I intend to renovate it, but I'm afraid I won't find parts for it. Did you have difficulty finding the pistons and other parts for this engine? what was the hardest part to find? Could you give me an address where you bought the parts?

Hey Alexandre! Took me a minute to find the links but here are all the ones I found! It’s really tough to find parts for these engines. It might be better to save and buy a newer one and retro fit it in.
