The 2003 has this key with the coat getting ugly and sticky, so I went removing the coat
Update: been a few years since, still best thing to do

Just spent 3 hours carefully cutting into the OEM key with a flat head screwdriver to extract the little chip. I put the chip into a $5 eBay key just like the one you showed. Got it cut and it works like a charm. No more torn up key. Thanks for the advice!

I notice the video got a few negatives. I've been using the key for 1 year ith the rubber cleaned (removed) and it's been just great! It's smaller, easier to keep in the pockets and above all no longer sticky-gummy-dirty-you name it.

i just leave it on a gas living room heater for 10 mins and the plastic and rubber stay and the key just POPS out of the case...

A video about removing rubber.. your kidding ...I was hope you would remove the chip so that you could fit it in the new key you bought as that was what you were pertaining too ...,.not helpful at all Finish the video and show how you remove the chip... :)

@@mcsrecordingstudioalbionvi5082 no easy way of doing that, I removed all rubber from the key and then using a Stanley knife, began shaving small segments off the key to extract the glass transponder unit. The trick is to slice a lot of plastic off and then finely shave slowly exposing the glass unit. It is glass... Its got the same rubber coating holding the unit inside the key do you have to shave roughly 75%of the plastic off before bring able to extract it. The secret is to NEVER try to pry it out. Very very light pressure once enough of the key has been shaved off to remove it.

@@monkehbitch Thank you for these tips, I successfully removed the transponder and it still works in the new case. I absolutely agree that you need to be really careful when digging it out of the key, new sharp blade also helps.
