Volvo S80 4.4 V8 with CUSTOM EXHAUST on snow&ice (redneck style)

9 жыл бұрынWinter drive in Volvo S80 with a Yamaha's 4.4 B8444S 315 HP engine. Driving on snow and ice doing donuts and drifting around. All V8 Volvos have AWD systems as standard. Check what you can do with this car with ESC still ON as Volvo doesn't allow to turn the system OFF. All you can do is disable DSTC traction control. The point of this video is to let you hear how nicely the car sounds with an aftermarket, custom-made exhaust system which has been made by Moto Wydech (www.motowydech.eu). You can see more videos of this Volvo on my channel.
Recorded with GoPro Hero 3 Black edition in 1080p full HD and 60 fps. View both inside cabin and from the camera mounted on the car.

To się zgadza - to Yamaha zbudowała ten silnik ;). Ja sobie tak kręcę tylko w miejscach gdzie jest dużo wolnej przestrzeni, jedna ręka wtedy wystarcza :). Drugą się muszę trzymać, bo tak doskonałe trzymanie boczne mają fotele Volvo.

This is their webpage: www.motowydech.eu/ and e-mail: motowydech1@wp.pl i know they think of manufacturing these exhausts for S80 V8 as there are some inquries about this exhaust system. Write to them so they feel that demand is there and I think that in some time this exhaust will become available.

What kind of exhaust is it exactly that they put on your Volvo? Two separate pipes? Y-pipe still on there, h-pipe, x-pipe or no crossover?

I would pay a quite hefty price to get the ESC fully off on my S40 T5 AWD. Very nice sounding V8 with that custom exhaust!

+rextetron You're right. I haven't figured out how to turn ESC completely off and it makes me mad to be honest with you. Apart from that, on saturday I've heard a S40 with a 5-cylinder engine (I don't know whether it was a T5 or some regular engine) with a custom exhaust and it sounded so cool! Those engines are really full of potential if you know what I mean. People rarely tune them but when they do, the result is just insane. You have to experience it by yourself to full understand what kind of feelings it deliveres ;)

+V-Told Yeah. It sucks a bit too much to be not able to experience the full freedom with the AWD. And yes, the 5 cylinder sounds also really good, but nothing compared to your V8's demonic tunes. :)

+V-Told I have S60R - as far as I know this is the only VOLVO model (from the last years) or at least one of the few VOLVO models in which you are able to disenggage traction control completely. It has 2.5 inline 5 cylinder and indeed it sounds brilliant (and still mine is with stock exhaust), but this V8 is magic. It has its own charismatic sound and performance. Maybe one day we will be able to compare both cars ;)

I took one for a test ride last weekend and once it got to 70 mph, it had a strange side to side vibration in the steering. It was a 2010 with 80k. It also did not have navigation.

Two most likely causes: unbalanced wheels, bend brake discs. Been there, done that.

gor beats Why wouldn't it be good for everyday use? That's how I use it. As for the price - it depends on where you live. There's not many of them and they seem to hold the price quite well nowadays.

gor beats I got it in Poland two years ago. It was one of the more expensive units for sale here but it was worth it as the mileage was low and I could check the history. As for petrol, unfortunately, it consumes a lot. However if you would drive in a calm and relaxing way, it shouldn't be that bad.

Wg. mnie jedyne warte uwagi Volvo, które wyjechało z fabryki po 2000 roku. Wydech w połączeniu z tym silnikiem robi robotę. Jakieś szczegóły na temat wydechu? Ja myślę nad zmianą bo ten, który mam trochę "dławi" dźwięk mojej V8.

BST SELECTA Zgadza się, dławi - ten V8 w Volvo jest bardzo podatny na wyciszanie. U mnie środkowy tłumik został wycięty, co akurat nie zauważyłem, aby jakkolwiek zmieniło dźwięk, zatem zmuszeni zostaliśmy zbudować od nowa końcowe tłumiki. Być może w przyszłości zaprojektowany zostanie pełen układ 2x2,7 cala do S80 V8, ale na razie są problemy z terminami w Moto Wydechu i projekt stanął :(. Kiedyś widziałem/słyszałem takie A6 C5 jak na twoim filmie na zmienionych tłumikach i chodził całkiem fajnie - basowo.

V-Told no właśnie środkowy nic nie daje, a jak daje to takie minimum. Do A6C5 jest sporo gratów ale trochę się boję, że wyjdzie zbyt głośno i myślę nad końcówkami od RS6C5(używane). Katów nie ruszam, bo są w dobrym stanie.

+Nick Hammer In this video the setup consists of new rear mufflers and removed center muffler along with 2 catalytic converters (two last ones - one on each pipe). Haven't touched a downpipe and will leave it as it is.

Vincent Vega Well, Vincent, it was developed in cooperation so I'm sure there's some part at least in engineering on Volvo's side. But yes, this is not a well-known fact. First of all we should start with noting that many people don't know that Volvo had such an engine mounted in their flagships :)

Yup, this is now an exhaust consisting of two custom rear mufflers and new pipes. Also the central muffler was removed (unnecessary move I think, since it didn't influence the sound at that point). It wasn't "very" expansive but costed a bit. Let's say half of a regular Akrapovic or other custom exhaust that wouldn't even sound as nicely as this one. Putting aside a 1000 euros for it will be enough :). Or at least should be.

Did you do anything to bypass the traction control? I can't fully disable it in my S80

Well, you cannot turn ESC off. so I just turn DSTC (traction control alone) off. This lets you do "something" but then your brake discs burn because the car constantly tries to stop you from having fun.

No, a V8 S80 has always been matched with an automatic 6-speed transmission. Non-V8 versions could have a manual gearbox, but not V8s.

Not as dirty as the jag v8, the 90deg angle over the 60 in the swede makes a beefier rumble. but not to cuss the Volvo at all, superb motors full of surprises for all those hot focus st’s and golf gti’s etc

There's a lot depending on an exhaust setup. The next stage of this exhaust happened to be so bassy that it started to drone. That's how deep it was. Couldn't drive too long without it becoming tiring. Eventually the compromise between the "metallic" and "bassy" sound turned out to be the best.

There are two ways of answering this question: 1. looking at it in terms of economical reasons, I would do that. Then I could buy 2 or 3 S80 V8. Which one would give more fun? S80 V8 without a doubt with that sound. S90 T8 is just like any other car, it just accelerates quickly and can use an electric engine which - I admit - I believe can be fun. But the S80 V8 is way more unique in my opinion. Probably not as technologically advanced and fancy inside as the newest version but as a second car to have fun in, it should be much better.

Nieco poniżej 100% przód (bo nigdy nie jest 100%, kiedy napęd jest dołączany), a w razie atrakcji... nie mam pojęcia ile może pójść na tył. Trzeba by sprawdzić w jakichś archiwalnych magazynach, gdzie opisywano samochód jak Volvo go zaprezentowało.

Well, it depends on where you are looking. It was the most expensive setup so I assume that because of that it's not the most popular choice. Also running costs can be higher that those for smaller engines. However, I myself have a friend with a V8 S80 and have seen a few several times.

The S80 would be slightly faster due to lower weight and perhaps better aerodynamics. Well, it's fast enough and quicker than 90% of the cars currently on the roads.

As a V8 Volvo owner I would say that the other V8 cars in range 280 - 330 PS (Audi, BMW or Benz) without turbo, Volvo is slightly behind them :)

They do, but mine has an automatic with manual shifting mode. You use the gear lever to select the gears and the car is changing them for you.

How reliable are these V8 in Volvo ? Any typical fails ? How strong are chains ?

+Daniel Z From what I've heard they are super-reliable. There are some common issues with S80 in general like air conditioning compressor (pricey), electronic throttle body (pricey) - this one needs to be cleaned from time to time and perhaps it won't fail that soon. Mine so far is very reliable. I had just one failure and it was the lumbar adjustment - some metal cable inside the seat broke during hard acceleration (I'm not that heavy!) - $120. Also, these V8s wear down brakes rather fast. I had to replace mine 3 (three!) times before getting Bosch discs that do not bend that quickly. I think it was a matter of faulty discs from ATE and Brembo though...
