It is recommended to check your ECU if you have any faults related to ECU internal failure or want to see if it’s your source of problem. We always recommend checking with another test ECU if in fact the ECU is your source problem before replacing.

Hey i have a 2012 vnl. Its not doing anything when i try to crank it. Its giving me this message along with check engine light. J1939 communication error with engine ECU. Any idea what could it be?

That was a wonderful uplifting video due to the music, it hit me sideways and calmed me down LOL I run the mail back and forth subcontractor curious is that the same way on the older 2006 model, LOL !!! Ty.4sharing awesomely done!!

Hey what problems did the truck have before tje ecu replacment How often does the ecm go bad for a d12. keep loosing power to my ecm and my truck shuts down randomly i replaced harness still does it

Hi Jose, We wouldn't recommend it as they changed the electrical systems in 2007 and they are very different compared to a 2002 truck.

Hi where could I buy diagnostic tool scanner for volvo penta tad1344ge ecu.. Our genset got alarm of ecu warning shutdown.. So the mcb keep on tripping.. Need to find the fault of ecu,

Sorry, The diagnostics tool is currently only available for Semi Trucks.

You have to see if they are the same hardware number on the ECU. If they are the same then you can use it. I think you can check with the dealer if you give them your vin number. Hope this helps! .

Les Garten it will have to be reprogram I had my did soo it's best if you have it did at dealer if you don't have computer with volvo program to do it

From our experience only a dealer can program a ECU, You may be able to find an ECU from a salvage yard but it may not be programmed correctly for your type of truck.

Hey man my truck is a 2012. It was running fine with check engine on. I went on vacation for a week and when I try to start it the lights would come on, but it won’t crank at all. The only message i get it Maintenance required vehicle Ecu. And j1939 Communication error with Engine ECU. Please help me out with this if you have any idea what could it be

After installing the new one .. does it need to be reprogrammed?

Yes the Engine ECU needs to be reprogrammed with Volvo Premium Tech Tool. This will reinstall the original file to the ECU. If you plan to reuse an ECM from another truck then you would still need to reprogram due to the configurations. Let us know if you need anything else!

@@otrperformance once you get a new ecu reprogrammed. Does that automatically reactivate your DEF? And would you have to get the DEF deactivated again

@@juanwaysniper083 Yes, the original file from OEM has DEF activated depending on your emission years. Hope this helps!

We wouldn't be able to give you an exact price as every truck is different. We recommend contacting a couple different shops and see what they would charge.

Will all the antifreeze leak out if I disconnect it?

Fuel will leak out not antifreeze... It is cooled by a fuel line. So no need to worry about it once you disconnect it. Just make sure you replace / reinstall the copper washers.

@@johnysilver1853 A brand new one will need to be reprogrammed if it's straight from the dealer. You can try to see if your unit starts after installation. If it does not start then you need to program it using Tech Tool. I still recommend doing a reprogram because all of your stored values off your existing VIN or ECM is flashed to your chassis ID per vehicle spec. Let us know if you need any other help!

No it can't run because of the Electronic Fuel System that is controlled by the ECU. Hope this helps!
