I thought you were a genius when you twin turbo converted your gallardo. Thought so even more when you built the volvorghini. Now you have stepped it up yet again and building a mid engined twin turbo v10 volvo. This will be amazing. I love your work peter

Hey Peter, if you are looking for inspiration on the rocker panel removal look at some "mini trucks" from the American hot rod scene. A "Doored" truck has the rockers completely removed to achieve minimum ride height where the bottom of the door is the lowest point on the vehicle. Great place to look for ideas to solve that issue. Doing that will let you lower the body down farther and integrate nicely into the flat bottom of the vehicle. Not to mention, it looks very elegant if done well. Good luck! And I hope you are going to use some massive over fenders and a wide body kit to keep the R8 track width! Awesome build, i can't wait to see more!

Also, match your firewall / bulkhead between the engine compartment and the seats to the same angle as your seat back so you have equal clearance from the top of your seat back to the bottom. It would allow for more seat adjustments and theoretically be safer in the event of an accident. It's also a great place to tie in the R8 aluminum frame.

Anybody watching using Celette MUF 5 / 7 type bench, just be aware they actually can flex if not on an even floor. I use a MUF 7 and level it with a precision spirit level: it doesn't need to be 'level' usually, but just jacked in lowest corner to take out twist. Amazing how much they move and I suspect over the years there must have been thousands of cars 'straightened' on slightly twisted jigs. An old car scissor jack is perfect for the low corner: lift until twist is gone and it'll sit there for as long as you need, perfectly accurately (unlike a hydraulic jack potentially).

Would it be easier to cut the body of the car in half and just put in a strip in the roof making it wider...I guess the dash probably wouldn't fit flush! I'm sure it will look great with wide fenders tho.. Always look forward to seeing your projects videos, you never disappoint!

Then each part of the body like bonnet & bumpers must be widened too, it's easier to make wide fenders only.

In my limited experience, trying to integrate an OEM subframe into a tube frame seems like a time saver in the beginning but ends up causing a lot of headaches and often you start over without the OEM subframe. You don’t gain much by using the Lambo/Audi subframe and you spend more time trying to solve the problems it creates. Maybe for this type of project it will work fine but attaching the subframe to the tube chassis is already creating more work and complexity, maybe even a compromise in strength. Also, your practice welds look like spot welds linked together. Which wouldn’t be acceptable. Maybe I’m wrong about them being spot welds. I’ve been a subscriber and fan for a few years now so I don’t want to come off as a troll.
@PeterBjorck

I think it is a time saver for now. It has so many attachment points for the equipment and turbo kit i allready have. It have mounts for: engine, gearbox, turbos, intercoolers, wishbones, trackrod, swaybar, ecu:s, coolers and hoses. Maybe better to build everything new but i dont do it at this point. It is absolutely not spot welds! It is pulse so it is high and low amp switching.

That’s a perfectly good TIG weld, it’s looks spotty as you have to dab the filler rod in yourself.

I use a high frequency pulse. 120 pulse per second. 20 % background at about 160 amps but use the foot pedal. You can punch it through, see it and back off to about half pedal, move, repeat. You don’t want to back off too much, as that can make weak points. Try a number 12 cup and set the flow to about 30-35 and run the post flow10-12 sec. Do a bit and move, to let the heat dissipate some. Maybe. Hope that helps or gets you closer to where you want to be sir. Love the channel.

I feel like the widebody would've also been easier to design for a 2 door. I think at this level of fabrication he could always turn it into a 2 door by moving the pillar. Either way I am very excited to see how this will all work out!

There is another problem with using a 242 as well and that is that there aren't that many left. About 242,000 cars were built between 1975-1984, but most have been gone for decades. In total, Volvo built approx. 2.8 million units in the 200 series.

Excellent build Peter! I like your idea of running fuel lines through the chassis. Actually I have seen guys run the coolant through those tubes, you should consider this also. And I agree you should trim the sills to lower the body. Having it shorter and flush with the chassis tubes with a smooth flat bottom will look awesome AND give good ground effect down force at high speed. I am curious how you will connect the steel to the aluminum chassis. The best in my opinion would be a block or shaped steel tube inside the aluminum tubing to prevent it being crushed and to spigot the joint then bolt through both. Really looking forward to seeing your car come together. And those are impressive rules for building, very nice. Thanks for sharing

now you have a floor that is attached to the engine shell, if you measured carefully, you can cut away the sheet metal on the inside of the chassis, if this sheet makes noise, you can lower the chassis lower than where the pipes end and make the car lower, measure carefully with a laser, attach the chassis, check that everything is in place the right doors fit, etc. then weld everything carefully now you have a body that works
@thomas.m0par

@PeterBjork As for fuel lines, not sure if you are allowed to have them inside the tube frame. Pretty sure you can have them through the coupe however but there can't be any joints inside the car, and i think the line has to be of a certain thickness.
