In this video, I spend entirely too long discussing VOTATU back up iron sights, explaining what I like about them, the theory of mounting sights, and finally, actually, mounting the damn things.

Great video , bought some 👍, my Troy sights while great are a pain to adjust..,,, also fyi . "MIL-STD-1913" Picatinny rails are from the 1980s ( 1913 is not a date ) and were later adopted by US military in the 1990's .. just wiki them for a details .. also give your "thread lock" a lil shake before dispensing , it tends to seperate when stored .. 😉

Ah, thanks for the Picatinny rail insight. 👍I hope the locktite will withstand the SAVAGE recoil of 5.56 even if unshaken. 😅

Hey, thanks for the comments. ☺️ I had the opportunity to zero them and they really popped. My "tens of rounds fired from a gun" sister had the opportunity to try them and found it really easy acquire the sight picture. Glad you enjoyed, hang out on my channel for a while for more fun stuffs. 👍

I bought this on Amazon website and it did come protected in small clear bag. And Allen wrench to adjust the sights. Good price and very good Quality.

Very pleasantly surprised by them. If they hold zero and don't shake loose the fibers, I'll be picking up ALL the sets of them. 😋

Thanks for the viewership and comment, friend! They are thicc-ish, but that just denotes quality in my book. They seem pretty nicely engineered for the money, and $30 is cheap enough for me to have risked the gamble. 🤠 Happy shooting.

@@JR-ld1et Same, no range time, but from what I see they are super sturdy. The only thing I can think of is the fibers could walk out with recoil (you know how savage that 5.56mm is.....).

@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic If they walk out they can be replaced and perhaps with a brighter filament .. 200 rounds and still solid here .

The peep sight/ghost ring post is on backwards on these sights and all the ones on Amazon that look like exactly them... The "cup" on the peep sight should face the shooter to reduce glare. My guess is these are OEM type sights that people buy from the factory, rebrand and sell. They are dirt cheap I suspect because they are not configured correctly.... They are not impossible to fix with a 1/16 punch. You can then back the post off the shaft and flip it around... be careful because the adjustment wheel has two tiny springs and ball bearings that will fall out when it comes off. Buyer beware....

How are the sights holding up after this past few months? Looking into buying a set for my ar pistol....

They went on my 11.5" pistol, I zeroed them and only have 30ish rounds down the pipe. I can't (yet) speak to the longevity, but the only issue I have had is NOT having the proper Allen key needed to free up the front sight when I went out to zero it.

I picked up the sights, but in the process of sending them back. The rear sight was machined backwards for the mount. There was no way to attach it to the pic rail. Being pissed, I decided to look somewhere else and get this, I found the same sights on ebay for $10 less. It just didn't have the Votatu branding on them. FIngers crossed that the new sights don't have the same machining issue because I liked the sights themselves.

So is it the higher the front sight the higher the shot or the lower the front sight lower the shot or higher the front sight lower shot.etc?

I will usually over-exaggerate the action. Hold your thumb up like this 👍, and put it on top of your front sight. Line the rear sight up with the tip of your thumb. Your muzzle is now pointing VERY down. So, moving your front sight UP, will LOWER the impact of your shots. Same principle for the rear sight. This time your thumbs up is horizontal, and hanging off the left side of the rifle. Front sight lined up with the tip of your thumb, the muzzle is VERY much pointing left. So, rear sight LEFT moves the point of impact LEFT. Above is how you PROVE it, the principle is : front sight is inverted, rear sight is proportional.

just a follow up , front sight has a small allen screw for locking down potential unwanted rotation after setting zero ... Update , I can confirm the front sight will rotate during fire if the setscrew is not secure detent not enough to secure it , I watched it pivot in 1/4 turns during fire with set screw loose.

Last weekend I got to zero these sights, and can confirm the front does take an Allen to loosen before it will adjust. And of course....it was a size I did not have on me. 😅

When adjusting the front, I have to hold the red front pointer with my hands in order for it to go up or down. I pulled the detent out entirely and when I spin the wheel nothing goes up or down. I must hold the red fiber optic part with my hands so it does not spin, then I can spin the wheel and pull up or push down for my adjustment, this is the 2nd pair of them I ordered and same issue. Am I doing something wrong? @@OutsideTheTargetDemographic

@@abesview5855 When I adjusted mine, I first use an Allen key to loosen the hex locking nut above the wheel, on the backside of the sight, maybe a full rotation. You don't need to REMOVE the locking bolt, just loosen it. Then rotate the wheel to adjust the height of the front post. Then retighten the locking bolt. You should not have to hold anything, or manually raise or lower anything, in my experience.

@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic That’s crazy i ordered 2 of these and both times loosening the hex locking nut and turning the wheel would do nothing. I just ordered another one today. I will try this method and not hold anything. Maybe i broke the other 2 🤷🏽‍♂️.

I've been told that allen will lock the sight in place, preventing it from walking or losing zero. I will have to check mine. 👍

So, Did you zero your rifle??? at 25m, 50m or ???? Are they holding 0??? Thank you for infos! I did not see any manual come with it????

Hello, friend. I recently did have the chance to zero them, and I zero my ARs to 50 yards. My understanding is it will give you a point zero range out to 300-330 yards : the bullet will hit plus or minus 5ish inches of point of aim from 0-300 yards. Idk if that holds true with shorter barrels, but I can't even positively identify a target at 150 yards without optics, so, 50 yards is for enough for me. Note: the front sight has an Allen screw that will prevent you from adjusting the sight, so....make sure you have that allen with you when you take it out to zero. 😅

Yes, from what I imagine. What in particular are you asking? An offset rail would have limited sight radius, but these should fit any rail.

Umm, IDK what you are talking about specifically, but I will say I see a lot of pictures where they (the photographer) has put the sites on either facing the wrong way, or, flipped around to fold flat pointing toward the muzzle instead of toward the shooter. Is that what you mean?

As far as any potential interference with charging the rifle. You can always upgrade your milspec charging handle with a Warhammer Mod2 CH by BreekArms @ the same quality and half the cost of competitors.😉

@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic just search a review on Warhammer. Great option for increasing the overall ease of use with your charging handle. It doesn't do anything much different than than milspec, but does make it easier to handle the CH when in a situation like yours and if you happen to run an LPVO or other glass rearward on your upper receiver which sometimes makes charging your rifle a bit difficult, Price point of 44.xx vs 120.xx for the comparable competition.
