Kevin O’Sullivan and NHS GP Dr Renée Hoenderkamp discuss JK Rowling hitting out at past comments made by Anneliese Dodds on gender as the Labour MP was announced as women and equalities minister.
The Harry Potter author has previously accused Labour of having “abandoned” her and others campaigning for women’s rights.
Shortly after Monday’s announcement, Ms Rowling tweeted part of a transcript from an interview Ms Dodds had done on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour in 2022.
According to the posted transcript, when asked for Labour’s definition of a woman, Ms Dodds said there are “different definitions legally around what a woman actually is” and, when pressed again, said: “I think it does depend what the context is.”

Now that that barbarism is over & individuals choose, we have trans. 1 reason, people have lived as opposite sex always, often only outed posthumously. Along with intersex we have hermaphroditism (also in other species of living things), heterosexual cross-dressers who are often family men, drag queens & more than 31derful other variations🌈. Just as race is more complex & varied than black & white, so is human sexuality.

I'm 48. I don't remember much about what was taught in PHSE. But thinking about it, it was rather quaint and missed out a hell of a lot. Much like History classes. It didn't really include the finer realities. Very simplistic. Maybe that was enough. I've learnt a great deal since. I have my own opinions about the bits that were missed. Much different than your own. I suspect. If I went through my life without further learning that would be a travesty.

PHSE is now broader and more intimate. When you have governments talking about 'contested views' etc It becomes very muddy indeed. Gender identity was never mentioned when I was at school. Probably not when you was at school. But it is within the curriculum now. You may say that it shouldn't be within the curriculum. I'm sure the same was thought decades ago.

If people disagree with this read about James Kier Hardie, Ramsay Mcdonald, Clemente Atlee, great men, especially Atlee wounded In Galibalie, If I have spelt It propperly. As a Biologist: Gender and sex are synonymous. Only 2 Sexes (Male and Female) therefore only 2 Genders Man and Woman (adult form). You can't change your Sex therefore you can't change your gender ergo no such thing as "Transgender". Gender Identity is the social construct! You have Trans-Identifying Men (a man living as / pretending to be a woman) and Trans-Indentifying Women (a woman living as / pretnding to be a man) All should have respect an live their lives just don't attack women's or men's rights.

It would probably be best to define men, 'people with prostates' as I understand that is one part of the anatomy which cannot be or isn't removed in so-called bottom surgery. In general I agree with the notion that woman's toilets, changing areas and such other spaces should be restricted to women. But I am undecided about fully transitioned trans women who are female presenting and have had bottom surgery.
