Glad you came back a year later to see Sohyang's magical performance of Arirang Alone. This is a traditional Korean folk song that Sohyang revamped with new arrangement and modern elements. This stage, for the vocal professionals, showcases Sohyang's vocal prowess on her control, power, range, breathing and transition. Moreover, this performance also highlights her artistry in the interpretation of the music with a visually beautiful presentation with the entire orchestra and the partnering violinist. As someone already pointed out, Sohyang is a South Korean vocalist with immense talent and impeccable technical discipline. You are probably quite close in your assessment of her height. BTW, the only documented training Sohyang ever received was some voice lesson with Seth Riggs when visiting Los Angeles, whom she credited for teaching her the technique of mixing her voice.

She is born and raised in South Korea , learning English watching Disney, especially ,” Little Mermaid”, which often she has been known to break out singing , randomly! The song was in Korean( Hangul) She has made a lot of trips to American , visiting, singing Gospel in Churches, took some lessons from Seth Riggs at his invite, also spent couple month their before her, King of Mask Singer 2 , Appearance, contemplating Quitting her Vocal Career( from the beginning of 2014 to the end of 2018 she suffered 8 cases of pneumonia! And though she did a couple of her best works during this she wasn’t sure if she was enjoyed still by her audiences! While visiting her Sister-In-Law, Jin-Ju Lee( who was guitar player in Joe Jonas’s Band) , SoHyang saw a Banner while visiting Boston , We Have Nothing To Fear But Fear It’s Self, by President Roosevelt! It struck a nerve and she realized after talking to God that she had promised to use her voice to Comfort all those that suffer and she realized that she would probably regret just giving up as long as she still could sing( I honestly, I think at 43 she has been singing better then ever the last two or so years, she has been fairly healthy, and turning down a third Recording deal, this time with Sony! She did very little singing before 18 or 19 years old and never wanted to Sing Professionally or Marry ( which she did at 20). Then discovering she had Uterine Cancer, then Hepatitis from a blood transfusion , the because her immune system was compromised the battle with the dreaded lung disease! Somehow over the years she learnt how to sing properly and practise relentlessly! She can perform every genre from what I have heard except , Opera and American Country! Yes Gospel ( in Churches/ Charities and such in well over 50 countries! ( in her Husbands Family Contemporary Christian Music Band, POS. Her manager is her Father-in -Law, her best friend is her smother-in-Law, both are Ministers, as is SoHyang on occasion! She has written several successful Fantasy Novels and several Faith Based Books, Teaches Voice and Performance Baekseok University in Cheonan City, Acts , did the interior decoration on Her and her Husband’s Apartment in the Family home! Besides her Gospel Performances, Charity Performances, and Talent Competition’s her Manager limits her to 1 or 2 Personal Concerts per year, because of health( she doesn’t drink or smoke , keeps fit and is serious about looking after her voice! Peter, like most Sohyang fans, I get tempted to write too much info., so will resist. Sohyang is about 5'5''. A South Korean Pop and Gospel singer. This is a Korean folk song. The subtitles were poorly done and were no help. Other fans will give you her Bio. I don't know what performance introduced you to Sohyang, but I suggest that you explore a few in more familiar venues. For a starting point, find "Bridge Over Troubled Water" at the "I Am Singer Legend" TV show. Be sure to find that specific performance. Welcome to the World of Sohyang. Great reaction! She is a gospel singer from South Korea. Her song 'Everyone' is a clinic in singing. A vocal coach's dream. "Lean On Me', "You Raise Me Up', and 'Bridge Over Trouble Water' are all world class performances. She is simply the best female vocalist on the planet in my opinion. Peace.

"So" not "Soy" and she is from South Korea and that was Korean that she was singing in.:) Arirang Alone is a very important cultural song to all Koreans and is about the longing for North and South Korea to be one again. She is wearing Korean traditional dress, the hanbok; and many of the hand gestures are from traditional Korean dance. Don't mistake anything about this as being Chinese. Sohyang can sing in Chinese but Chinese sounds quite different.

So Hyang is an amazing vocalist!! The soulfulness of her vocals and her moral character as a Christian are beyond reproach!! If you enjoy harmonies, 4th Impact's cover of So Hyang's incredible version of Bridge over troubled water in 4 part harmony is a must see!! It was done as a tribute to all the frontliners who put their lives on the line daily during the pandemic. Both of the sister's parents were hospitalized in critical condition with the virus, but with the help of a lot prayer have both recovered. All 5 sisters also contracted the virus but have all recovered nicely!!! They produce an amazing KZfaq/Facebook livestream every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 pm Philippines time! Sometimes it doesn't start until 9 pm, but it is 3 hours or more of the best "family friendly" entertainment available!!!!

She is from S. Korea. She is about 5’5” tall. Not tall at all. She started singing when she was 19 or 20. Her main vocal coach was Seth Riggs from the US. He was Michael Jackson’s vocal coach. You are wrong on some of her notes. Her upper range is usually mixed voice. She can go into the 6th octave in a head mix. Don’t let the range fool you. She is a beast.

Peter, honestly I was getting nervous as you went along through this song and didn't take a break! Ha, ha! Because Korean TV broadcasters are the bane of the music reaction world and will almost always hit people with a copyright strike unless they take numerous breaks or put some sort of video mask over the video itself. So far you have gotten away with it. But they are horribly dogged in their determination to rob everyone of So Hyang's musical genius by hampering it in some way. They are possessive idiots and there _needs_ to be some sort of strong push back from the world community in these regards. As far as anyone knows, So Hyang is a 100% self-taught singer, taking only about two or three sessions with Seth Riggs when she was in the US at one time in the mid-2000s. She would practise singing Mariah Carey's "Music Box" CD when she was in her mid-teens, along with Celine and Whitney. Other than that, So Hyang appears to be one of those freaks of nature, so to speak, who is just a natural singer with an incredible lyric soprano range, though she does say she has worked _very_ hard at it. She speaks five languages; Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese--and she also reads Greek! Talk about a genius level intellect! When So Hyang sits down to work out the arrangement of a song, her entire in-law family and her musical friends and associates join in. So we are hearing the accumulated result of some very gifted musicians when we hear So Hyang perform a song. They go over it all with a fine tooth comb and work it out to suit everything that So Hyang can do with her voice, because they know what she is capable of. We just sit back in astonished wonder that any human can sing on such an altogether different level! I find that a day without So Hyang is like a day without sunshine. It has gotten that bad! The problem with watching the entire video and just commenting after, it is difficult for you to remember everything you wanted to say and for us to get all the information at once out of context. May I suggest a possible better way of doing this and this would be to listen to the entire performance, then go back and watch it again pausing and comment on that small section, which I have seen other coaches do and to me it works much better.

Then she later saw a Korean TV drama where the talented daughter of a very successful businessman was positive she would take over when her father retired. But he left the management of the company to a woman she hated, so she had a fit and lay kicking and screaming on the floor. Though she is less than 5' 4" and probably not even 100 pounds, So Hyang simply transcends the thresholds of music and takes you there with her.
