Vasco da Gama’s voyage to India remains one of the great adventure tales of all time: a 27,000 mile round trip, much of it through unknown waters. Against all odds, Da Gama managed to return with a handful of spices. But more importantly, he came back with information. Used by the West, it would shape the fate of the East.
This third episode in the series retraces the arduous voyage to India as told in the one surviving eye-witness account. It is a story of awe and wonder, peril and hardship, and single-minded determination. But most important, it is the story of a crucial meeting between East and West, which would have dramatic effects on the shape of the world.

Great video. I’ve been to the Portuguese library shown at the beginning of the video. I was a teenager. It was an amazing experience. The books are housed in a beautiful building, a palace. It was clearly built by people who intended it as a testimony to the majesty of learning.

China had already sailed to East Africa by 1415. China made a big mistake suspending Zheng He's voyages.
@samuelmunyigi218
@samuelmunyigi218 2 жыл бұрын
True. If Chinese leadership had continued supporting Zheng He, the world history of exploration would look very different. The circurmvigation of the world would have been achieved much earlier (before Mileghan) and maybe Americas would have another name (as the continent's discoveries would have been done by a Chinese and not Mr Amerigo).

@@samuelmunyigi218 I'm okay with the fact that China didn't conquer America. But, what do you know? Here they come buying up our land. Guess it's never too late to submit to authoritarian Communists.

They are rich, they are not desperate and have no interest of conquest , they have more problem from the northern border. The Chinese arrive in my country(Philippines) but never enforce their control, but yes they conquered the businesses here

I have very little respect for cinematographers. Why do you open with a shot of a statue's feet? Do you imagine we will all be intrigued to find out who's feet were cast in statue? You might want to open with some video of the subject that the video is about. Maybe, the whole statue.
