On our recent trip to Bora Bora, we were invited to experience the newly renovated Le Bora Bora (previously Bora Bora Pearl Resort) and it did not disappoint. The property is situated directly in front of Mount Otemanu with stunning views from every angle. Read on to find out everything you need to know before you book.
In the review, we’ll tell you everything you need to know:
00:00 - Le Bora Bora Intro
00:32 - Le Bora Bora Location
02:05 - Le Bora Bora Lobby & Check in
03:12 - Le Bora Bora Rooms
06:26 - Le Bora Bora Service
08:28 - Le Bora Bora Dining
11:07 - Le Bora Bora Facilities
13:08 - Le Bora Bora Style
Le Bora Bora is approximately 20 minutes by boat from the airport in Bora Bora and features spectacular views of the mountain and sunrise as it rises over Otemanu. The resort also features one of the best white sand beaches in Bora Bora, with coral-free access to the pristine blue lagoon.
When we arrived to the dock, we were taken to the lobby to complete a seated check in. We loved that the same staff member who picked us up at the airport was the same person that continued our check in throughout the entire experience. We were provided with lemonade before heading off on a tour. While we walked to our room, the hotel staff explained all the highlights along the way, including the activities that are offered for free every day. Once we got to the room, the tour did not stop as he explained all the helpful tips about the room and features. The entire experience was professional, courteous and well done.
We were booked in an Otemanu Overwater Bungalow. Sitting at 851 square feet, the overwater bungalows all feature the same layout, with different views.
The rooms are completely renovated and the new design is stunning. The walls, woodwork and design is all very authentic and Polynesian feeling with carvings and clever wall paper. The bedroom features a bed facing the view as well as a sitting area and hole in the floor to see the fish. This hole is built into the bed and you can open it up to feed the fish fish food (they sell it at the shop).
Overall, the renovation elevated the room design and comfort tremendously. We absolutely loved the authentic and curated Polynesian elements throughout the room and loved the spectacular views from the bed.

@@VoyagerGuru we do have one question. How much locally currency should we have in hand? Or can most stuff be purchased with a credit card?
@VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! We usually bring take out 100-200 USD from the atm at the airport to have on hand for tips and markets. Most things accept credit card but at the Papeete Pearl market for example, cash is king. On bora bora 99% is credit but if you go to a local shop or market you’ll get better deals with cash

@@VoyagerGuru thanks! did you exchange it for locally currency, or just use US dollars?
@VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
So we have a bank that lets us pull out the local currency at a good rate (ally) so I would recommend just using a local ATM if you have a good withdrawal option with your bank (no fees). It’s usually cheaper to withdraw than it is to exchange. If your bank doesn’t have a favorable rate or high withdrawal fees, I’d exchange dollars at a bank on bora bora. The airport is usually a really shitty exchange rate but local banks are grest

@VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mo! Thanks for reaching out...hmm.... I'm not sure I've heard of their ocean view bungalow, where are you seeing this option? The best category is Mount Otemanu view and then the second best is Lagoon view. Their standard overwater bungalow will be closer to the public areas like the beach or facing into the beach slightly and will have less privacy. However, all the rooms are exactly the same, just the views change :). Mount Otemanu view was incredible!

Hi Mariam! Thanks for your comment. We have been to French Polynesia in November and we had great weather! Honestly, we were also there in Feb/March and had great luck so it really just depends on the year and mother nature. Sometimes you get super lucky and other times not! However, historically November is a good time to go and you can save a bit on hotels since it's not peak season :)

Hello! Thank you for this great review! Yours is the best one I have found on this resort! I’ll be coming to the resort the last week of March staying in a Otemanu OWB. Your view looked great! I like the straight view looking out from the bedroom. Can you suggest a room number for me to request for a great view? Would you have wanted to be further out in the lagoon? I have read that it may be more windy further out. Thanks for any info!

Thank you so much, Teni!! Congratulations!! It’s a wonderful choice for a honeymoon - I would ABSOLUTELY take advantage of the free activities every day, it’s so fun to make flower crowns and stuff :). I would recommend the half board plan at a minimum, it helps cut down meal costs while you’re there and its a generous plan. My fave restaurant was otemanu for the view and good food. I wouldn’t recommend going to the island unless you’re really dedicated because it’s a bit of a haul. Spa is nice, renovated recently. Let me know if you have any questions!

@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Thais! that's so exciting!! congratulations!! Yea, the wind is a seasonal thing so hopefully august is better :) the wind was really nice, except for when it was gusty. We did spend a few days on the main island before going over to Le Bora Bora. I'd say if you are REALLY bored then its worth going, but otherwise its a bit of a hassle. The resort has a free boat ride but then you have to take a 20 euro cab so its not actually free. St. James and Bora Bora Yacht Club are the most famous, along with Bloody Mary's. We liked Bloody Mary's a lot- very fresh. For shopping, it's more worthwhile to spend a few hours in Papeete on Tahiti if you have the chance :). The resort has a couple of fabulous shops at the same price as going to the island of Bora Bora. I hope this helps!

Planning to go for honeymoon the first week of January! Any thoughts on weather? Also can you let me know if they charge for the water sports (kayak, paddle board, snorkeling) or if it’s free like the other activities? I would love any mention of extra costs like for the sunset cruise or spa or the boat taxi? Any info would be great so we can budget for it
@VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeneen! Thanks for reaching out! January is during their rainy season, however, it completely changes year to year. i have been in the height of wet season and never seen a day or rain and been in the height of dry season and been rained on every day so it is what it is I guess. I would say if you really want to ensure good weather, I'd stick to the dryer months, but Jan could be excellent. Kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling are complimentary along with their daily 11am free activity (which was really fun). The boat that takes you to the main island is also complimentary, however, the caveat is that it does not take you to Vaitape the main town, it takes you about 15 minutes drive from Vaitape so a taxi will cost you about 15-20 dollars each way to get to town. I would recommend going to the main land only if you want to get off the property for lunch + shopping for an afternoon. Do not go on a sunday as everything is closed!! The sunset cruises and other activities start around 150 per person. I would highly recommend the sunset cruise- the open bar was amazing and the appetizers were delicious! I would also recommend doing a lagoon tour to snorkel on some of the amazing reefs :)

@VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. It's a wonderful resort- we really loved it. The prices are usually listed in euros or polynesian francs in FP in general. The resort accepts all major credit cards so I would personally stick with paying with a card while at the resort on check in and check out. We typically recommend pulling out "walking around" money at the ATM ($100-200 USD worth of francs) at Papeete International Airport when you arrive just to have some local currency for tips/cabs/street markets etc. While you *could* pay in USD some places, you'll likely get a pretty bad exchange rate. @VoyagerGuru
@VoyagerGuru Жыл бұрын
Hi Kayla! Thanks for your comment! The transfers to all the hotels are managed directly by the hotels and typically cost extra. Some deals you can find through agents or places like Costco include the transfer :). Once you make your hotel reservation, the resort will contact you before arrival to find out your flight time and schedule the boat. They will make sure they’re waiting for you. Also, there are stands for each hotel at the airport right outside the baggage area and they are manned by someone from the hotel so you can always rest assured someone will be there for you!
