*spoilers don't read if you're gazing at the comments and you haven't watched the film* Really enjoyed the use of metatextual elements to articulate the emotions of the story you're telling. The shifting aspect ratios used in conjunction with an unreliable narrator had me really engaged with the themes explored. Would make a good double feature with Asteroid City, as both films have similar structures of a story playing out simultaneously with the narrative of the creation of said story, and both utilizing aspect ratios to subconsciously establish different layers of reality in an audience, and both with a character that stops the dominant story to be emotionally vulnerable and express that they don't know how to write their story. It was so fucking genius to have the irl sequence use the same aspect ratio as the flashbacks, and then doing "that thing" immediately after that part. Very well written film.
