Thank you, Chris! One thing I would like to add is the importance of sending the cue mix sends of each channel in Cubase back to the performer so they can hear the music. I'd never used the control room before in Cubase (never needed it) and so when I tried VST Connect Pro yesterday, I had to train myself to enable the cue send for VST connect on every new audio track in the session, otherwise the performer couldn't hear it. The other thing was the "master" fader not being automatically assigned to the performer's main outputs, so I had to set that manually as well. But all of my other questions, you answered! I'm very grateful!

I am having the problem with the performer. I can hear them and record them but they cannot hear anything from my side including talkback, metronome or any music I have written my end. The meters show activity in the control room but that’s as far as it gets. I will try what you say.

Chris, I downloaded the Manual. Then I added yellow pages to my binder, and went thru your wonderful/detailed/ and thorough Tutorial on a piece of software that is critical to understand and have. You are the GOLD standard in Cubase Understanding. While I will study the whole tutorial at least 3 more times, unlike everybody else (besides Ondo) you pre-answer every & all questions and stumbling blocks for us before they even happen. You really are helping all of us make better music, faster. Your "detail" is exactly what's needed. Thank-You

Nice that someone finally explaines this. there are some videos out, but they are all kinda really old. BUT I think you missed to explain on the main source of all problems with this : The part where you show detailed adjustments for the talkback setup on both sides, the part where you show how to exactly choose the audio card and the relevant outputs and an example how to send the cue mix to the performer side. This is where after my experience 95% of all users fail to use this ! They simply don't get it right with the talkback and the cue sends... and where to manually insert the vst connect plug ins for a better understanding. would be interesting to see, if I'm right there and users leave their experience with this in the comments...

Another well explained and helpful video Chris thank you...!! Used VST Performer and connect pro last night with a friend . Had some issues withthe tqalkback in terms of he could hear me while couldn't hear him. Then I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. There was a short period where it worked perfectly but this was only for a couple of minutes.. We'll continue to work at it. Wondering if there is there anything obvious that we have missed ...!!

Chris thanks for these great videos. I've been having great success tracking individual things like vocals using vst connect se. Have worked from Nashville with friends in L.A. and Tampa. A buddy in Miami has the VST Pro app and we are trying to track an acoustic drum kit. We got as far as setting up 8 mics, getting signal from each of them. From the performer side, I can adjust each fader to adjust the mix in my headphones. However , once we track, it seems all we get is a sub mix. Is there a way to actually record individually channelized and isolated drum mics? I figure if anyone can answer this question it's YOU!!! Once again man, thanks for being a great resource and a champion for educating musicians and recording enthusiasts! Bravo!

Very cool explanation video! Only thing I didn't understand: when you recorded the accoustic guitar of your other friend, you didn't record it on a VST Performer Track? How is this possible? Or can I take every Audio Track and have only to adjust the input of it to "Performer"?

Don't forget when you're the performer you need a code from the studio with pro. This is obtained by the Pro user clicking id on login and giving the number to performer. Got this from another video.

IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE PRO VERSION HOW DO YOU DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO TRACKS AS MONO TRACKS. GREAT VIDEO VERY WELL EXPLAINED WITH NO COMPLICATIONS THX

At first I though you were screaming at me with all the CAPS...LOL! If the Studio works with SE, the performer's HD Recording will not be active. So you won't be able to download HD Audio. What you will record in this case is what you'll get.

Very helpful, Chris, thanks! I bought VST Connect Pro and I'm trying to figure out what minimal equipment my recording clients who are not engineer types need in order to work remotely with me. Can they avoid needing an audio interface if they get a USB microphone like the the Rode NT-USB microphone? I installed Performer on a spare laptop and connected it with Connect Pro running on my workstation with Cubase. The connection worked, but Performer doesn't recognize headphones plugged into the headphone jack, nor does it recognize a Logitech headset as an audio device it can connect to. As it is, Performer is unusable because it only plays over the built-in speakers on the laptop!

That's probably a configuration problem with your spare computer cause it supposed to work fine. Don't thing I can be much of help :-(

@@mixdownonline Thanks for responding! It turns out that Performer, like Cubase, needs a true audio interface, not just audio devices like USB headsets or USB microphones. It can be a simple one like the Steinberg UR12. Once you select the interface in Performer, then Performer can "see" the inputs on the device.

Chris, do both of us need to have Cubase with VST Connect on each PC? Might be an obvious question but I want to set it up with a Singer in remote area who has a computer but no Cubase..Pete

Hey Chris, awesome job on vst connect. Is it possible to record more then one session player at the same time? If so what is the limit if any? I'm looking at bass, drums and guitar at the same time.

@@mixdownonline Yes it is the best tutorial hands down on Vst Connect. Unlike other Cubase videos, (especially on Vst Connect) you and Greg Ondo do great jobs diving in to show us how, what, where, why and when so we can troubleshoot. thanks again

Hey there, many thanks for this massively informative video!! I hope you don't mind me asking, I just got the Pro version 5.0.20.585 and at the settings , I can see the 'Set to HD' option also no 'Encryption' option. Have these become mandatory now and taken off?? Thanks so much!!

Hi chris great video explaining, have a question about recording takes, will vst connect handle overlap recordings and when sent to cubase the HD files they will be in the right place ? for example the performer record from bar 1 to 10 and he records and fix from bar 3 to 5 also would would be nice i think as feature to have an option to share the project screen with the performer as many musicians used to look at the project timeline to see cues while tracking

Yes, it handles overlap and the HD files will replace the low quality files at the exact same place

Looks great, I always wanted to try and use it. I guess all VST instruments + FX are only local on the sode of the performer? when recording the MIDI are any controller changes / parameter changes recorded on the studio side?
