When you're a young adult watching (or rewatching) Cowboy Bebop you relate a lot to Spike: always broke, soul-sucking hangovers, would eat 30 whole boiled eggs if it's all you got, ready to let it all end at the slightest inconvenience. But eventually you become Jet: you don't want to be bothered, and whatever crazy adventure you missed, you don't wanna hear about it

That was watanabes beginnings as an animator with macross . He was the interior design/mechanical design key (or one of them) for macross plus before bebop . His attention to detail is psychotic 😂

Even though it's not as common there are heterosexual women that prefer to dress a bit more masculine or unisex. I wouldn't call this queer erasure it's just more diverse representation. Even you guys,the most woke reaction channel I'm subbed to thought she was a guy . VT is an interesting character all around. Hope spike kept her contact info. A network of space truckers is definitely handy for a bounty hunter to be tapped into lol

Also sometimes beautiful women just age a bit muscular/masculine which is definitely not something that you see on TV. My aunt looks more like Dave Grohl every year. And Dave Grohl looks a bit more like my aunt each year too. Things happen in your 60’s 😂

The heavy metal shout out is so appreciated. When I first saw this as a teen I thought VT was a guy until the end of the episode. But later on appreciated the fact they were willing to insert non feminine stereotypical women into the story in competent roles. With anime that isn't something you can count on. Well not just anime but media in general.

The music in this episode really makes me appreciate that every song in the show was composed by Yoko Kanno and performed by the Seatbelts. Such a wide variety of sounds the OST is amazing.

The OST is legendary. I turned on to Yokko Kanno because of Bebop and listened to other OST's like Wolf's Rain & Ragnarök 2 Online before ever watching them... And of course there's the G.I.T.S. OST.

"Rocky Mountain Oysters" are Bull Testicles. The "Worchester and egg Yolk with pepper hangover cure is a "Prairie Oyster" and is slightly less disgusting. Japanese Truckers are famous for their tricked-out rigs. A non-anime movie with one (with a cowboy theme) is "Tampopo". "Cowboy Bebop" is what happens when "Lupin III" and "Crusher Joe" got drunk in the bean bag chair in Quentin Tarentino's den.

VT's voice and appearance are very similar to my Russian grandmother (down to the blonde hair, build, and face shape), so I never really got the impression that VT was androgynous though that's also a valid interpretation. She's tough as nails and used to be a police officer in her day, so it was a really pleasant surprise to see that type of person depicted in media.

@@stefangonzo I really don't want to undersell how great these episodes are without doing that but it tips them over the edge into perfection when you do this. The one about Spike and Faye talking about masculinity and femininity just took my breath away, it's so elegant and profound.

Physics that no one asked for: Momentum is reliant on two things, either the mass of an object or its velocity. Since a bullet is small, its high velocity gives it its momentum. It would approximately take 10 bullets to accelerate Spike to the velocity of 1 mile per hour.

Actually… yea the physics work in this instance, you totally can shoot a gun in space, you can effect your movement in the void by farting. The reason the gun works is because of the chemical make up of gunpowder and how bullets are made. Also, a tuckers truck is also kinda his house for days or weeks at a time, the cab is kinda their room.

Great video guys, There are countless references you find in other series and movies that were inspired by something in cowboy bebop. Another series that you cannot miss because of how influential it was with only one season is EVANGELION

Sure drunken kung fu is cool, but you gotta master hangover kung fu as well, to always be ready to fight! Also all those details of everything in the show, the interior designs of all the ships, just makes my brain feel great. When I was watching it for the first time, the show just never let me doubt this world actually exists.

Go back to the very first shot of the first episode were spike is in that she got in the church, which was brought up again, and episode five Spike gets shot in the fucking face. His eye is prosthetic. That was the surgery..

lol Great reaction as usual but I gotta say....She calls herself the heavy metal queen and all the ppl in the bar pretty much acknowledge she's a woman so there's no need for the "she or they". It's just she. We're in some weird times but it's ok for a woman to just dress in whatever or not be the stereotypical woman. The confusion at the start is understandable because that's what the writers intended but I don't understand the added effort to try and find additional labels after the show establishes she's a woman. She kept her husbands name for a reason so there's no need to speculate on her being bi either. If she was or it was relevant then the show would highlight it.

@brianyaniro4797 literally multiple? And one is the main cast? Ed is nonbinary. Now there's debate whether they were intended to be or if production decided to switch their gender at the last second but highly androgynous regardless. There's also the one person who lives on a planet of only men who is trans or something akin to it (they don't go into much detail and I don't remember the name)

Spoilers Ed is a girl. She says so herself. And Gren is the person you're referring to later on. He is a man who was experimented on against his will to grow breasts. That was not his choice and he's still a he. I think it's weird people go out of their way to misgender and misrepresent characters.

@brianyaniro4797 first, you clearly knew damn well who i was talking about so don't try to bait me. Second, I didn't misgender anyone. I clearly stated that Ed was intentionally made androgynous by the shows creator and they simply couldn't take it any farther than that due to the era it was made. As for Gren, I'll admit I didn't know it was against his will but he says himself that he is "both and neither" so as far as I'm concerned any gendered language would be correct.

Don't get mad at me and claim I'm "baiting" you by asking a simple question. I have no desire to argue. You can imagine them however you want. But yea when a girl says her pronouns are she/her and you purposefully misgender them I don't see how that's any better than if you were to misgender anyone else. Call her androgynous based on outdated stereotypes but she is still a she. As she self identifies. My apologies for asking for clarity.
