She might not know but Canadians value nature over the amusement parks. If anything, the amusement parks can be dangerous if you are not always watching them and if they are not familiar with the country which is why many avoid them. When I had visitors from foreign countries, the only time I took them to amusement parks was when I was with them 100% of the time. It's why hiking, skiing, biking, camping, etc. in Canada is so popular and why we have so much place to use it. It's safer than in Japan but as is always the case, there are some places where it is safe in the country and other places that are best avoided.
@kwj_nekko_63203 жыл бұрын
I don't think hiking in Canada is safer than in Japan. Japan is a much smaller country than Canada, and Big cities are far away from large mountains, so the most popular hiking spots (near from big metros) are overcrowded and overdeveloped, taking away the risk of being stranded or getting hurt. FYI, Mt. Takao, located in the west of Tokyo metro is often cited as the most visited single mountain in the world, and its height is only some 600m! The forest is relatively wider than to be expected from such a low mountain, but it is certainly overdeveloped and overcrowded. Surely there are also many dangerous mountains in Japan, notably the 'Japan Alps' region, Mt. Fuji (the highest in the country), and many other live/dead volcanoes, but those are quite far from big metros and the people usually prepare heavily for them.
@kidn00b13 жыл бұрын
@@kwj_nekko_6320 Well it depends, because of how big Canada is there are thousands of trails that are very easy for anyone to traverse and are typically all over the place, through towns, residential areas, shopping districts and cities so it's not all that different. Although, without question, the countryside is a completely different story. Outside of how massive and easy it is to get lost like you implied, there's tons of predators and the climate is much harsher.
@TalesOfGod3 жыл бұрын
@@kwj_nekko_6320 There happens to be both in Canada. Some of them happen to be very close to cities for people who want to take a stroll with family and friends which is always nice, there are others that are more in the rural areas which would be going into what you are talking about. I feel that overcrowding is an issue for safety in these areas, particularly in these times of the pandemic. Either way, I am no expert about this so just take it as an opinion of a random guy on KZfaq.
@nicolasa.31923 жыл бұрын
Yes the hiking and MTB culture here is actually massive. I can see the mountains from my house so it makes sense but I've only been to an amusement park maybe once? If you want something like that around where I live you either go to the mountains or the sports park in the city.

That's pretty awkward, most couples I know wouldn't make out when they have a guest over. As for the forest, they probably were trying to be different and instead of showing her less tourist-y attractions like amusement parks, were trying to show off Canada's natural parks. I can totally see that as coming off as creepy though.
@kwj_nekko_63203 жыл бұрын
Her original word for that part is "chucchu" which literally means some cooing (hugging and kissing). Though this is still a somewhat cringy thing to do in front of outsiders in Japanese culture, recently quite a lot of young couples do that also in open spaces. I think the awkwardness comes from the fact that there were only a few people (possibly only the host couple and Subaru) in the room (possibly livingroom) in a very late time.

Assuming she came around springtime, which is when foreign exchange students typically show up, there should be rain still, but we'd be getting warm and people might start to get into an early summer mood and bust out the grill. It's also possible that the new husband wanted to show Shuba some hospitality by busting out his grill early in the season before she leaves. It's unfortunate that she felt awkward in her trip, I'm sure it wasn't intentional on the host family's part, and they wanted to try showing her some of our specialty rather than just more city life. To here that it was super cold because it was raining baffled me as a Canadian, like yeah it can be cold when it rains but when you think super cold you normally think snow. Guess she lucked out and avoided the snow.

@@thomasjin1415 We have a lot of forests and nature parks, even inside cities. Hell, in Vancouver, we have a big park right next to the downtown core. We also have large nature reserves and big parks that are further out. Take a look around Canada's parks and reserves, they got some breathtaking vistas, and if you like outdoor recreation, it's a great place to be.
@nicolasa.31923 жыл бұрын
@@matasa7463 Yeah that's so true. Our "parks" basically span the entire city most of the time. Fish Creek in Calgary is _massive._ You can do everything from fly fishing on the river to mountain biking there it's so large.

Yeah you kind of just get used to the cold weather here in Canada. I've lived here for nearly 10 years switching through different apartments so I never experienced the struggle to shovel up my driveway. I've gotten so used to the cold weather and snow to the point where I extremely hate hot weather. It's just so sweaty and the air feels so humid, even If I go out half naked i'd still be sweating balls.

It was cold and raining, but he was in a Tank Top. Eyyyup, sounds about right to me. Living in Alberta, the first time I visited Nevada in the summer and stopped in Mequite I felt like I instantly shriveled up the second I stepped out of the A/C. Sure, it was warm in Utah, but just going through the Arizona Strip it instantly warmed up, it was insane to me. Point being, with Japan usually being a bit warmer than most of Canada AFAIK, I can understand where she is coming from when it comes to seeing locals in clothes that they look like they shouldn't be.
