Possibly the top black metal album of the year, I absolutely immerse myself in this album and the artwork complements it perfectly

Normally I would agree, but this year there's been _so much_ exceptional black metal that it is hard to say. If one can't immediately say that this is the best album of the year, it only speaks of how spoiled we black metal fans have been in 2019. This, Numenorean, Andavald, Kaleikr, Gaahl's Wyrd, Yellow Eyes, Mizmor, False, Pensees Nocturnes, and so, so many more! What a happy year :)

@@welwitschia I completely agree that it's been an incredible year for black metal! It comes down to each person's leaning but you really can't go wrong this year. Ringare, Remete, Firmament, Ashbringer, Falaise...the list could go on and on. 🤘

I agree with welwitschia. There have been so many great releases. In addition to their list, there's been new shit from Vanum,, Mgla, Cloak, Darkthrone, Wormwitch, Dawn Ray'd, 1349, Alcest, Nightfell etc etc. It's been an _incredible_ year for black metal.

Sowas hört man doch gerne an einem freien Montagmorgen, da ist direkt gute Laune angesagt. Wirklich sehr manierliches Klangwerk, hoffe das zieht sich durch die gesamten 55 Minuten.

The tone (emotional, not literal) is so rich and dense. This is definitely one of the best metal releases of the year for me. Makes me wish Mare Cognitum would release another album. If you haven't heard of him, check him out! Luminiferous Æther is his most recent and polished album. It has the same sort of gravity and vibe as this.

It's a disguised post-rock, I hate that the genre seems to be going in that direction. I could go into greater detail about subpar vocals, clumsy production, uninspired drumming or the not-quite-there Beksiński wannabe cover art, but what's the point? Suffice to say, listeners of post-rock will recognize 46:17 as one of the most overused cliché post-rock riffs in the history of the genre, widely utilised by third rate post-rock bands since 2003. This particular band is also a Mgla rip-off (7:48, 38:44 as a couple of glaring examples, but it's all over the place). But I'm also just a random half of a person who thinks that Bergttat, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Antichrist represent the unattainable peak of the genre, so feel free to ignore my comment.

I just had a lengthy discussion about the impact of Burzum's early albums on the "second wave" scene and why Mgla is in my opinion good, but very overrated band. I don´t know why, but I prefer (by far) their previous album. I don´t like the sound on this one... It´s not a bad release, but somehow, it does not convince me completely...
