A welder generator for the hobbyist is a no brainer . Best of both worlds for the extra money . 7018 3/32 is nicer for going around small diameters like that on the pin . Not a big fan of welding pipe on like that . Flat bar brackets on side with holes for pipe thru then fillet weld around both sides . Easier and no chance of pipe wall cracking or tear out . You did a great job though 👍👍

So back in my highschool days we used to do welding on everything in the community for class. built bumpers, trailers, etc. We had a boy welding some round on for ramps, very much like what you did with your tube on round stock approach.... only he forgot to slide the ramp outer tube onto the round before welding up the ends. Took him a good while to figure out why we were all laughing at him. Oh, the good ole' days. I never never woulda made a boilermaker, but you get an A from me on the job!

It's that time again. time for that one year review on a welder, how's it holding up? What problems does it have? What do you like about it? What it can do and cannot do? What do you wish it had or didn't have? And anything else you think is important. Keep up the great videos!

It just works my friend. I use good gas with fuel stabilizer in it, and it never fails to start. I have used it to weld and to run an A/C and Fridge when the power was out. I am not a pro welder, but it always does what I want and it is easy to use. Really, not many complaints. I have about 15 hours welding with it, so take that for what it is. Most of my jobs are small.

Good job. About that pipe. You did fine. I might have used a piece of 3/8 filler rod, or no 3 or 4 rebar, where I welded the pipe to the trailer if I was building for a customer but that's not a big deal. It wiMiller's. It sounds like you are impressed with the welder. I am thinking about buying one as backup for our Miller Bobcat 230. Right now we have two trucks and one welder, which is most unhandy. Nice upgrade. I invested in a gen 3 Prius CVT to use the motor generators (MG1 and MG2) for a engine welder/plasma cutter/alternator (generator) on a garden tractor platform using an opposed twin B&S 18HP since that's the engine they used on their hybrid car and I might use both MG's to make a hybrid design eventually is the plan. In the queue and slowly moving forward on. Neat seeing HF having as I was just looking to see what the latest and greatest projects are. Will see if I can move forward with my project this winter. Still need to design, fabricate and setup my testing fixtures first and foremost since there's not much data on those MG's though some can be deduced/infered. Thanks for sharing!

I would have made the C channel on the sides a lot longer past the other piece that boxes the end and coped. You would have the top of the pipe flush with the outside of the top of the C channel that way you could weld the ends as well, I would also put a weld in the middle. If that don't hold nothing will.

The engine revs up like it has a load and will not idle down after you stop welding. I’m sure that’s not normal because all other gasoline welders idle back down when not welding. Am I missing something. I have went over the directions several times and it doesn’t say to turn on the 2pole 30amp breaker before you weld. Please help

@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 5 ай бұрын
You don't have to hook the ground up for welding or for most light duty generation situations. If you are running a generator with sensitive electronics then a ground is a good choice. The ground, obviously, would make the unit safer if it ever had a dead short. Many small generators don't even have a ground terminal.

Sorry, I missed your comment. I would go with at least a 6000 watt generator. Running a welder is different. There is a sudden pull of electricity when the weld is started. A bigger generator is needed.

I just got this welder and set it up. It seems that the auxiliary power switch needs to be in the on position to operate the welder . Is that correct ? I didn't find anything in the operating instructions about it. Thanks

Yes sir!, Both switches have to be on. I went through the same thing. Still loving the welder. First oil change done.

As long as your happy that's all that matters. I just worry about trying to find parts buts always my concern with harbor freight, they do have some great tools. Someone also pointed out not everyone is a professional welder and it's nice to have a machine just one person can move around, and at half the price of the cost of anything in it's class as far as brand new it dose look pretty attractive.
