I haven't see the movie so I don't know the background (maybe they were hired to take him down, idk) but from what I know based on this clip they didn't expect any resistance

This is how I think all my fights will go…then I throw a flailing missed punch and end up grappling while standing up and gagging from cotton mouth after 20 seconds of fighting. Then we shake hands and become friends because we know we can’t fight.

This is a good watch in freeze frame. The stunt double is a pretty good match for Statham apart from his straight nose. You won't see it at normal speed. The leg sweep shows the stunt man moving his left leg to the right just before the kick arrives to go with the move and his shoulder hits the concrete while he moves his head to make it look like it has bounced. Great stunt work.

By far my all time favorite actor for any type of fighting scene. He better be this badass in real life.

Men's Health did a story on him back in 2006. One of his friends challenged him to complete a marathon. There's a lot more about his workout routine in the article, he was primarily doing some form of circuit training, where the rest time between exercise sets was to go from the exercise you were just at, to the next exercise. Don't sit around waiting on a clock. One of the later stories on his workout routine has him advising give your workout 40 hard minutes of exercise, not 20 min with 20 mi of rest between sets.(or even 30 min with 10 min of rest.) I don't know about whether he participates in any martial arts, with the exception of stage combat. But as a well known actor these days, I seriously doubt that his contracts let him do many of his own stunts.

You could learn from this; his first move was to gauge the striking distance to his opponent, the next was to avoid punching the face (bone against bone isn't a good move), he actually went for the best place which, contrary to popular belief isn't the gonads as it takes a while for that pain to kick in, he struck him in the Solar Plexus where the ribcage parts at the bottom
