I have experience with soldering micro components onto mobile phone boards but don't know how to go about finding the problems and fixing these modules. Copper Solder wick will do same thing, might take a little longer for those without the solder sucker tool.

My ABS light goes on at times. I guess, I'll check the wiring on my golf 4 first. If there is no issue, I'll disassemble my ABS module and just resolder the solder joints on the connector, without removing the old solder, unless the joints turn out dull. Depends on what the old solder is made from. Aaaand that's it. I'll screw it back together and see if the error is gone.

my 1998 VW golf ABS system seems to have gone nuts. The ABS dashboard light randomly goes on and off, and (which is more scary) when I set my foot over the brake pedal, sometimes I feel and hear the ABS ramdomly pumping, no matter how gently I am braking. On your experience, do you think these symptoms point to a defective ABS module? thanks.

good job. but with a newer ECU this will not work. the manufacturers use pressfit pins instead of soldered pins.

I'd be interested to know if there are any physical symptoms that would indicate a fautlly ABS unit. I ask because I have a polo with weird braking issues. The particular issues being an odd 'knocking' felt through the pedal with coupled pedal sinking and loss of brake effectivity when braking over rough/loose ground. The problem appears to be worse in wet weather. There are no noticable issues when braking on smooth road surfaces in wet or dry. Also there are no warning lights to indicate a fault at any time. I know pedal sink is often an indication of worn master cylinder seals and I've replaced the master cylinder to no avail. Any help with this would be well appreciated because it's doing my head in!
