This is a simple DIY video for replacing the serpentine belt on a transverse mounted 2.0T TSI engine (Code CCTA, CBFA). These engines are found in the: Tiguan, CC, Jetta, Golf, Passat, A3, TT...
I used a Continental belt by CRP automotive who are sponsors of the HumbleMechanic ( / humblemechanic . I also used AvE's ruler to help me in my video ( • One Rule to Ruler them... ).
Hope this video helps you out! More to come on my Tiguan so, stay tuned!

Probably the best belt change video on KZfaq, even down to saying what size retaining pin to use. Great video, thanks.

You know, that little oil pressure sensor wire above the alternator just below the oil filter? This d*mn belt shredded off a bit and whipped that wire into two! Interesting placement. VW never ceases to amaze. Thanks brother! Great video.

Thanks for the helpful tips. This worked for a 2009 Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI (CBA motor). I found that a small diameter driver bit was an OK substitute for the 5mm pin.

Great video. Worked for my 2012 GTI, though mine was definitely tighter even with the tensioner at minimum tension. I found it easier to get the back of the belt on first, and put it over the top pulley last, while applying max leverage to the tensioner.

Thanks for the great video! Didn't expect it to be so easy :) No need to replace the tensioner itself? Some people advise to soak the new belt in a rubber/plastic conditioner so it lasts longer without cracking.

Is it anyway to do it from the under carriage ? Do you have the diagram for the belt bullies, so we can get a good visual on it for replacement?

If you have the inner fender liner out of the right front wheelwell, it could be completed from below. If not, it would be very difficult from below.

So I just purchased a belt and they swear it's the right size but it's missing about 1 inch I have a 2008 VW GTI turbo it has the same belt placement as yours but I noticed that your belt was wrapped twice in your packaging mine wasn't yours slide right on so what size belt is that?
@sbcncsu
@sbcncsu 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on your engine code. If you have a CCTA or CBFA, then use PK060441. If you have an FSI BPY you would use PK060415.

Hello! Where do you obtain one of those 5mm pins? Thanks.

I am not sure where that came from. You may be able to get a 5mm hitch pin from a hardware store or from someplace line mcmaster.com

Hi, thanks for the reply i actually just finished it. Super easy: 4 13mm bolts are in front. I am afraid to tackle the big tension and chain replacement but i'm trying to avoid what happened to you. Do you think its doable at home-any special tools?

It's definitely got to be different for the a3 and mk7.. I have a 2014 gli and locking it is different

Mark Demarsico Once you remove the "Soundactor" noise pipe, it's the same on all of the GEN 1 & 2 EA888 2.0 TSI engines since 2008/9. The MK7 is different and not mentioned here. Cheers!

Please help, I took mine out, and now it wont go back in, was doing a chain job, and didnt realize about this tensioner. How do I get it back in, once its completely out of the car?
@sbcncsu
@sbcncsu 6 жыл бұрын
Did you take out the belt and now cannot get it back in? The belt should go in very easily, as show in the video. If you removed the tensioner itself, I cannot comment as I have not removed one from a 2.0TSI.

it has no issues fitting into the spot, the lower lever, and the upper clip dont seem to align with the holes in the block. Buddy suggested i tighten the tensioner and try it that way. Guess I'll find out!

Hello, I can see in slow motion that the Serpentine Belt Tensioner is vibrating = it is wrong! You should replace also the tensioner. Not only the belt.
@sbcncsu

Thank you for your concern. The belt and tensioner are still working perfectly, 2.5 years and 57,000 miles later. The tensioner is in fine shape. My Tiguan recently hit 160,000 miles and is running great!
