Good video. I can confirm the level is checked with car on according to the Febi video guide. How did you measure temperature for final level check? VCDS or Carista are the two methods I would recommend as IR guns are generally ball park and not that accurate.
@ReviveMyRide

Thanks for confirming, I was pretty sure the level check is done with the car running but it's a long time since I have done this job now.... Reason is, a certain amount of fluid is held in suspension / in circulation and then you just level check the remainder in the pan. Merc tranny's are 100% this way. I know IR guns aren't 100% accurate but I have found them ok for this sort of diy, have used at least half a dozen times now with no issues. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍Cheers, Phil

Hi there, thanks for your kind comment! Yes, it would be a good idea to change the transmission and internal filters. Audi did change the S-tronic transmissions slightly over the years. For example: Some of them have an external filter and others don't. As far as I know, they all have the same fluid level capacity, which is around 7L but many owners buy 8L to be safe. I don't really have a resource that will allow me to look up your car and transmission for you but this is a free website that I use when looking up part numbers, hopefully it will help you: nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/etka/audi/ If you check the video description, you will see a lot of information in there about which fluid to buy. Also, check the comments below as quite a few owners have contributed with information too! Thanks, Phil

@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the fluid you mentioned does meet TL 052 182 specifications, so theoretically, should be ok. However, this always comes down to personal choice. A lot of owners prefer to go direct to VW/Audi, as they then know 100% that they are using the right oil. Others argue that the spec is the most important thing and that VW/Audi don't make oil. If you want to play it safe, Pentosin FFL-2 is the only other "approved" fluid apart from the VW/Audi OEM fluid and lots of owners use this. Sorry that I didn't give you a clear Yes/No answer, it's just because it comes down to personal choice. If you have the time, do some browsing of VW/Audi forums on this subject. If you don't have the time, my recommendation is to choose the Pentosin or buy from the dealer. Hope that helps! Cheers, RMR

Hi Andrea, I got it from Hamer Lift. hamercarlift.com/ It is a really good piece of equipment, so it is worth checking out if you are interested in buying a 4 post lift. Main advantages are: it is freestanding, so doesn't need to be bolted down, it doesn't require a power supply, it is very low maintenance. Thanks, Phil

@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Omar, great question, thanks for posting! In short, servicing the gearbox will make it last longer. If you plan to keep the car long term, then servicing may make the transmission last the life of the car without needing a costly rebuild or replacement. If you sell the car, it may be something a future buyer looks for to reassure them that the car has been looked after and is reliable. When I serviced mine, the transmission noticeably shifted smoother and was less jerky at low speed (such as when setting off from a stop). Regarding Dsg / stronic gearboxes, the intervals for the servicing have become longer. Some of them are considered to be “sealed for life” but many independent specialist workshops and members on forums still recommend servicing them. Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil

@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the capacity is just over 7L, so many people buy 8L to be safe. You will only manage to drain the maximum out if you make sure you remove the fill tube (inside the gearbox and accessed through the drain plug once it is removed) or by dropping the pan (which is what i did) if you plan to change the internal filter at the same time. Please check the video description for the fluid types as there is a lot of information in there. Some fluids are more easily obtained in certain regions and some owners prefer to be from VW / Audi so that they are 100% it is the right oil. Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil

Is it necessary to also change the filter behind the pan ?
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, that's a really good question and the source of some debate amongst Audi enthusiasts! It seems that for many cars (service manuals etc) with the S-tronic, the internal filter isn't listed as an item to replace but for others it is. In the end, it probably comes down to personal choice... If you would like to read what people are saying, I found this good link on an Audi forum: www.a5oc.com/threads/s-tronic-service-confused-re-filter.109394/ Hope it helps! Thanks, Phil

Hi, I did a bit of checking and it seems that if your car is front wheel drive, then it will have a different transmission to the one featured in this video called a CVT. If your car is quattro, then it will have the S-tronic transmission and the work required would be very similar to this video. Hope that helps! Cheers, Phil

what do I have to do after changing the oil? I mean the setting on the computer.
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, as this is a transmission oil change, it is time / mileage based and not monitored by the car's computer / ECU. Therefore, there isn't anything that needs to be reset. However, for an engine oil change / service, you can reset the "oil interval" quite easily by scrolling through the menus on the car but for the "service due" indicator that comes up when you turn the ignition on, you need to have this reset at a garage or reset it yourself using a system called Vag-com. I hope this helps! Thanks, Phil

Would it help if it’s slipping
@ReviveMyRide
@ReviveMyRide 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I’m sorry, I don’t really know the answer to this one. If it was a standard auto box with a torque converter, I would say yes, slipping absolutely can be a result of low fluid level, which would be resolved with a fluid change or top up. However, the s-tronic is a very different beast with multiple clutch plates inside. Normally, an S-tronic gearbox becomes jerky during gear changes when the fluid needs to be changed. I don’t want to alarm you but the issue you describe may be due to a problem with the mechatronic part of the gearbox. There’s lots of information on forums about these units, it really varies depending on the exact symptoms you are experiencing. Sorry I could be more help! Thanks, Phil

Hi, I think you are right to change the transmission oil. As you can imagine, there is a lot of information out there regarding how much oil from the transmission actually gets changed (does it all drain out?). In my video, I added 5L, then ran the engine/transmission and then added another 650ml and that turned out to be enough. It seems that the maximum capacity is 7L. So, I bought 7L but ended up with one 1L bottle spare (use next time and better to have too much than too little!). I've done some searching and it seems the Audi part number for the OEM oil is G052529A2. If you decide to use fluid from a different supplier, then it should meet TL 052 182 & TL 052 529 spec. A lot of owners seem happy with Motul DCTF. I used MIller oil (check out the video description for details) but I know it isn't available everywhere. I'm pretty sure this is what you need but please do a little bit of checking to make sure this is suitable for your car, I've only ever changed the fluid on my S4!Thanks, Phil

Hi, If you want to play it safe, then you can use the OEM fluid that you mentioned above or Pentosin FFL-2 (which is also approved by the VAG group) www.pentosin.net/specsheets/Pentosin_FFL-2.pdf A lot of VW/Audi owners go this route for peace of mind. Just check that your car is listed under applications for the fluid. However, it seems a lot of owners are also happy to run Motul DCTF that I mentioned above, which Motul says is "suitable" for this application. There are a lot of other fluids that say that they are suitable but aren't approved by VAG group such as Vaico TF DSG & Febi Bilstein DSG oil. The reason I can't advise further is that really it comes down to personal choice. Are you willing to use a non approved fluid? Best thing you can do is lots of reading on VW & Audi forums, so that you can make an informed choice that you are comfortable with. Thanks, Phil

Lifetime oil means lifetime of transmission, not human life :) Lifetime of transsmisions in TIPTRONIC is approx 9 years or 200 thousand kilometers. It's better to change oil every 100k, better less :). Change oil ASAP.
