VW Bay Window wiper mechanism re-installation

Replaced the broken nylon gear inside the wiper motor/gearbox assembly with a second hand one. A good one was not easy to find as this is a known fault. Checked it all worked. Made sure the mechanism was in the park position, refitted it to the VW Bay Window Bus (left hand drive) then refitted the demister air ducts, glove box and the wipers.
This follows on from another video of mine which shows how to remove the complete wiper assembly from the bus.
I could not find any videos showing this whole process so made these 2 videos in case they help others out there.

Considering how many of these were built and how many survive I was amazed I couldn't find anything on this task already on YTube. Nowadays if I am doing a job and cannot find a description on YT I just make a video myself. I did one recently on windscreen replacement on an old American car as otherwise once these skilled people retire, the knowledge will go with them.

Thanks for this video, very useful as I'm trying to fix my 78 I've lost the teeth from the mechanism to the motor, very soft brass linkage, good detail with zip ties

Thanks. Considering how many VW buses have been made it surprises me that I could not find a video already on YT on how to do this.

Considering how many of these were made I think people should make more videos on how they fix things as it will help everyone keep these vehicles alive in the future. If I cannot find one online I do a video myself, as in this case.

Thanks very much for that. The job list on my '73 bus has come to replacing the wiper motor. I only have intermittent, so it might just be the electrics..

Thanks for this second video as well. I have a feeling I’ll be needing to remove my wiper motor as well. Who is it in Ontario who will secure the two parts with a plate? I live close to Ontario so would be good to know.
