VW Camper Bus Restoration | Underwood Garage 6

Join my wife and I as we do our best to get this old VW camper bus back on the road.
In this episode, I finally paint the vw bus! It is blue and I am so excited to move on to the next steps of restoration and then road trips!
We hope to do some traveling in it once it is restored and roadworthy.

Hope it goes well. What are your plans for the bus after it's finished? I've thought about getting one myself either Vanagon Westfalia Diesel or a Chevy Conversion Van.

Another awesome episode from the Underwood Garage! The paint came out awesome! Maybe one day my westy will be one color instead of paint and primer! Love watching, love VW's , love everything about it! Love your garage!! But what got me hooked was the orange restoration and road trip! I’m a little late but I just wanna say how awesome this is I’m restoring a 1970 vw bus as we speak and I’ve had to remove literal pounds of rat shit and multiple nests im just happy to see someone with the same problem going through the same process

Hey Clark, I was wondering what painting process you used? And also what equipment you had to get, where you bought everything, a rough estimate of what you spent, etc. I’m going to paint my Bug at home when I get to that point, and there is so much information out there it’s just overwhelming!

There is so much info! I did a 1 stage paint and followed the guys at the paint shops guidance. I got the gun and compressor at harbor freight a few years back. The paint and primer and all tape supplies was around 400-450 if I remember right. It’s not a 10/10 paint job but it also wasn’t several thousand dollars!

I've got to paint my bus eventually. How much was all the paint? And did you clear coat off camera or just leave it bare paint?

Around $380 for paint and primer. I did a 1 stage acrylic enamel paint. So the gloss is in the paint.

would it have been more expensive to do a two stage paint? which I assume means the clear is separate? To allow you to do multiple coats of clear. Or can you still add a coat of clear to your one stage paint? I guess for my purposes I would do what you did since I want a satin/low gloss paint job since I'm going with a pastel type color. looks good though. also did you paint in garage and put out in sun to dry or is that bad for your paint since so much dirt and dust is flying around?

clark underwood Hi Clark. That would be great! I would love to do what you did. I just need a parts list. Compressor, gun, water separator filter thing. No one will touch my bus for less than like 6k. I’ve watched tons of videos on how to block sand & prime, fill & everything from Eastwood’s channel I’m in San Marcos BTW.🙏🏼
