It's time to say goodbye to the MK7 Golf. Before that happens, the iconic hatch has one last trick up its sleeve. It's not strictly a GTI and it's not a Golf R either so what is it? Find out in this video review!

Just picked up my TCR yesterday. It’s impressive. Have to run her in before I can really spank it but she pulls hard and turns heads everywhere!

Just purchased one of these in Australia. love it.but i had to sell my Golf R. i like the look of this better than my R. this feels a little bit more special but my golf R had an APR tune and was so fast i was going to lose my licence,

Great video 😁 The R will always get a better launch due to four-wheel drive but once rolling, there shouldn't be much in it between the R and TCR. I've driven both and the TCR is more fun on a country back road 😍 Which is why I have ordered one to replace my current Mk7 GTI 👍🏻😉

For a daily? Yes! For enjoyment? No. I sold my R after driving a Stage 1 TCR. Far more fun and the 70kg weight difference makes it that much more fun.

The needles on the speedo and tacho should be a different contrasting colour as should the needle for the fuel level and oil pressure. All white is hard to see.

My mk5 ED30 gets round corners like it’s on rails,obviously it being fully polly bushed helps and on PS4 tyres,it keeps up with the best going round corners

Hi, looking to buy one of these soon. Though in the video thought I could hear a lot of interior rattles and creaks of the trim from the camera while driving? Did you notice this at all on the test? I know it’s stupid but man rattles drive me crazy and would like to know if this is a problem in the golfs? Thanks

I'd often have a child seat, maybe some gear, maybe even a tripod rattling around.. don't mind me! Nice and squeak free. Rattles drive me mad too.

Nobby On Cars not really doing big miles but if I had a diesel I can use a company fuel card,can’t use it with petrol though.

I've a 2017 GTi. 47k for a golf is absurd tho..prices in this country are a joke. Some of the mk8 models are almost 60k. Ridiculous

You can buy a 1 year old TCR with under 8k on the clock for £28k, which is absolute bargain. I’d buy one if I had the money, they look amazing, especially in the grey, I wish the exhaust was a bit more noisy.

The Mk 7.5 TCR has an Akrapovic exhaust as stock, and it sounds really nice.

Does the chrome GTI label on the steering wheel still rub off easily like every other VW? That is one of my only complaints. It's your brand VW and it's in the most visible spot for the owner!

recipioct can’t say I’ve noticed that but then I’m always in a fairly fresh car in these videos so wear and tear isn’t as obvious. My brother has a 2014 PP I’ll check it out

@@NobbyOnCars I just bought a used GTI and was looking at the Jetta GLI and GTI. Ever one had a worn white letter that should have been chrome on the steering wheel. It's a minor issue but from a branding stand point it's inexcusable.

i have a tcr in black with performance pack, sunroof and a few other extra's and love it. I had a 181 gti performance and was going to buy an R but after driving this feel in love with the drive and the looks. this is my 5th performance golf having had 2 r32's with the amazing sounding v6 than nothing can compare to but as a drivers car the TCR in top of the pops. anyone thinking about the R needs to drive one of these before they're gone as it's deffo a more driver focused car if that's your thing and will hold it's value more so than the R which are quite common due to PCP finance.

Those front seats are overly bolstered on the sides making getting in and out pain in the ass. They also feel like a prison after a while.

Not as raw, as bouncy on bumpy roads, just as capable but if you are after that 'always on' sort of vibe from a car then the RS is the one, the Golf sort of has two personalities.

I've a 2016 Cupra 290 I think they all have the adaptive chassis they're close alright golf is obviously going to be rarer love the digital dash dials tho

The two door Golf is no more. Thanks to WLTP regulations all future Golfs will be 4 door only so my current Golf R will be my last 2 door sadly.

Nice but not worth the price tag IMO. I paid 23k for my GTI s and with a 700 dollar apr tune it's around the same hp as this one

Ya no, none of these cars are worth the money they ask you aren’t buying an icon like early generation VW’s. Mod out a 1-5 generation VW it’s exciting than these Bullshit current generation golf platforms. VW’s got the “Banking” shit down they will make money off you. I’m a German car guy, I no, I no.....sussing a Japanese car is more exciting

€47k for 4 pot front wheel drive german shitbox with high fuel consumption (10L /100 km) and poor reliability and awfull customer service from the monkey gassers. Euh, no thanks. At least the regular GTI makes sense as a sensible but fun daily car on lease. This is just marketing BS from a shameful company imo.
