Yea I got the same "issue" with my id.3 its ok if I drive high speeds like 130km/h but with lowerspeeds the battery just cools to much because of the cold weather and it dosnt "yet" have preheating which might help. As soon as it get around 5 to 10 degrees the speeds goes upp. Sadly my last long trip was mostly around 0 and on max 110 roads.

The front motor is only powered on demand. The GTX really doesn't need much more energy in regular driving conditions like city or country roads, compared to the normal id4.
@nigelcharles511
@nigelcharles511 2 жыл бұрын
More power available doesn't necessarily mean less range. For a given level of performance in identical environmental conditions, loss of range is primarily caused by increased weight or drag or reduced efficiency. The drag caused by the unused extra motor in the cruise should be minimal. The reason why the Tesla Model 3 LR does so well on range/energy usage is that it is good in all these areas. Its weight is 15% less than the ID4 GTX or the Kia EV6, its drag is 0.23 as opposed to 0.28 and the octovalve in the Tesla ensures that all surplus heat/cooling is used rather than wasted. Greater efficiency is king when it comes to EVs. Many of the legacy car manufacturers having started later are still well behind Tesla in this area. If you need the capabilities of a SUV all the time then maybe the extra running costs/reduced range are necessary. The overall storage volume in the ID4 is 30% greater than the Model 3 but the ID3 has only 5% more volume. On the few occasions where I need to carry bulky loads I make up for this deficit by towing a trailer.
@Kimppikoo
@Kimppikoo 2 жыл бұрын
Ionitys do not share power. The low charging power is due to a cold battery as VW IDs do not heat the battery in advance. Adding the second motor adds friction so as result you'll end up with higer average consumption. And of course as this is a GT vehicle they put bigger wheels so that also rises consumption. Those are the 2 main reason.

Seems odd to me that they chose the 4 for the GT treatment. The 3 seems to be the obvious candidate being Golf(ish) sized and a more logical extension of the lineage . I think there is a bigger problem though.The design of the 3 and 4 seems incredibly resistant to any attempt to make it cool or sporty or desirable or ..... anything other than what it is really, slightly dumpy and rounded. Adopting 'innoffensive' as the design brief means its going to take a hell of a lot more than slightly nicer seats and a microscopically different bumper to shake off the dullness. Jack's right, if you must have an ID4 then go for one lower down the price list and celebrate the dullness with pride. If however you still have a pulse and fancy it being raised every now and again, a Cupra Born would be a far better bet IMO.

Yes, too bad they decided against offering the id3 or Cupra Born with dual motors. A bigger single motor would be fine too, but that would take away from the efficiency in city and country road driving. It's probably because most people will order the id3 with the 45 and 58 kwh battery anyway, that don't support a higher power or dual motors.

I am frustrated that electric motorsports talk only ever seems to be about 0-60 times and never about handling. I would like to know if the BMW i4 M50 actually has enough BMW-ey-ness to outperform the Tesla Model 3 Performance in things other than 0-60 time, but no-one really seems to be interested. You can make like Tesla and put stupid amounts of motor in a big car to make it fast, but that doesn't make the Model X 'sporty'. I wonder how the Cupra Born 170kW, 58kWh drives...

Having driven an ID4 1st Edition for 6 months I found it a very practical car. I liked the seats, the driving position and the range. My main dislike was the connectivity with both Android Auto and Apple Car Play and the fact the touch screen is on the left. I'm right handed so having to swipe things and touch the screen with my left hand, especially for important things you need while driving is bit of a ball ache. Having said that, I ordered a Skoda Enyaq as my new company car based on the things I liked about the ID4. The Enyaq has better styling and trim than the VW with all the same practicality. I ordered it in November 2021 and don't have a clue when it will arrive. I'm currently in a rental MG5 SW EV which is fantastic value for money, has all the space I need but the range is limited and the connectivity is in a similar woeful state as the iD4.

Most people are right handed. My big argument for the superiority of left hand drive is that it puts all the fiddly bits on the right, the dominant hand for the majority of drivers. I’m North American though, so I do have a left hand drive bias.
@TheVOTN
@TheVOTN 2 жыл бұрын
One big advantage that the ID4 has over the Enyaq is the the tacho screen, in the ID4 it moves with the steering wheel when you adjust the hight, so it's always easily visible, the Enyaq is more traditional, causing the same issue that I've had in most cars that I've driven; when I get the wheel in the most comfortable driving position, it obscures the tacho.

Obviously you don't live in the country with muddy roads, or launch your little runabout down slippery ramps ... That makes the 4-wheel drive very useful. Great review. Informative and balanced. I am getting used to the Enyaq 80X which is quite like a Skoda version of this without being sporty. I have to say that the seats in the Enyaq are not its best feature. They sound like the ones in the stock ID4. The range on the Skoda doesn't fall below 400km/250km though, even when it's hovering around zero. Generally a very capable car as Jack says. It doesn't have as responsive or mature drive train as the Hyundai Kona we traded up from but then again, it's enormous boot and push-button tow hook make up for that tbh.

I suppose the big icons rather than a list make sense once you know what they are for. I’m not a fan of controls being put on touchscreens because I think it’s dangerous. Part of that danger comes from having to read something then put the tip of your finger on something while looking at it rather than just feeling for and pushing a button. A massive icon is probably a lot safer. The problem is knowing what they mean in the first place.
@Maciej-Komosinski
@Maciej-Komosinski 2 жыл бұрын
14:18 It is safer, it is independent of the language, they used simple but meaningful pictures, and they even gave both options for those who preferred text. And you know what the icons mean after one or two minutes, and they appeal to your intuition better than any text, and you access them faster because you do not need to read and decode words. But he still had to complain 😕 He said "I will give you a couple of examples" and this was the only one...

Jack's comments were, understandably, coloured by his living in the UK, with this being his day to day driving experience. If he lived in a country with regular snowy winters (we live in Norway), he'd uinderstand that having 4WD is an important addition to any car, but particularly to a car that has the weight issues that EVs have. We recently changed from a Tesla Model X to a Model 3, the only other cars we considered were all 4wd vehicles.

Well the thing that made me gawp was 2700kg. Can that really be right? The Hummer EV seems huge at 4tonnes but this isn’t that far off in the scheme of things. Weight isn’t everything though. So maybe when we come to replace our Model 3 we’ll consider Jack’s recommendation of the standard one with a bigger battery! Or maybe not. There’ll be so many more options in another 18 months.

@@JackScarlett1 Give it time; its never going to be "welding" or "accounting", but 10-years of staring at 4-wheels and 2? motors and anyone is going to realize that like most jobs, it's not exactly a role of lifesaving importance and responsibility. The "big" question (for any man) is - is this a meaningful life? Meaningful lives build human advance, family, etc.. If yes, then you are good to go - and if no, it'll tend to wear on any thinking individual. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - are metaphors for systemic good, respect, and building - shepparding advance; so, if your broadcasting "vehicle" gives a constructive platform to this messaging - and rewards our builders of advance, then you make this a meaningful life. I think ...

They didn't bring the GTX to Canada. They brought an AWD version of the RWD (with the same output as the GTX) with a little bit of a higher ride. Maybe that makes more sense in the end.

Why only use Ionity chargers? I know you say they are totally reliable but they are also horrendously expensive compared to almost all others. I've had an I-Pace for 11 months and mostly charge at home but when I need to charge elsewhere Ionity would be a last desperate choice because I don't like being ripped off! I think you should choose the most conveniently located chargers on your routes and call them out if they don't work properly.

Most of the time I totally agree with Jack, but this time not about 2 aspects. The graphic settings menu makes it more intuitive and playful for current and coming generations. I (40+) personally like it too. And about the shape of the car: I prefer the cross-over look over the SUV look of the normal ID4. Lower is more efficient too.

Logical conclusion to a good engaging review, it’s not sporty, it’s a good practical suv, and if you want /need it ? with four wheel drive then you want the GTX.

It’s a pity you can’t switch off or split the drive from front and back to either front or back, to up the range based on whether you’re driving around London or Paris and use fwd or A road and the rear wheels. Just a thought from someone still wrapping their heads around EV as potential replacement transport.

So what is the point of an SUV if the ID.3 hatchback is just as good if not better? And in EV terms more weight means lower efficiency so you either need a bigger battery or you have less range. SUVs probably have increased air resistance too which affectrs range when driving at higher speeds. The only nice thing I hear in this about the ID.4 GTX is the seats.
