Listening to this and understanding this..I’ve just ordered a VW ID Buzz in exactly the same Candy white! I’ve ordered this on a very good 24 month deal however, it shouldn’t be too hard to extend this for a further 12 months!!

I agree with the worst case scenario value. There’s a significant increase of new ‘affordable’ EV vehicles planned for 2024/25 which I believe are going to be way more popular than going for a £30k used EV van, no matter how cool it is.

Great content Jim! I agree with you that the depreciation could be a big issue on these. I believe there is a more powerful version on the way to bring the 0-60 under 10 seconds!

I love mine but feel cheated. Ordered as a priority customer waited 18months and paid top money.

Biggest cost of ownership was always depreciation. Great example as to why leasing is a no brainer if you want an expensive item new.

It was a special deal that if you want a buzz. Waiting for the next aimilar one

In this case the lease was so cheap it definately makes sense to lease but the most important point of this video isn't particular to the Buzz - it is that if you time your car change to the right time you can get a great deal. If you look at the 2 year prices available today on a Buzz the two year lease cost is £22,468 so the saving on the PCP is much more modest and could be offset by other factors like tax etc. I don't think there will be another deal like that for quite a while. On the 2 year resale price I don't think it will necessarily be impacted that much by one months sales that were pushed to 2 year leases- I think the vast majority of leases are for 3 years or more as normally they are better value, so there will be a relatively modest number coming to the market compared to the total number of Buzzes out there, plus some may decide to extend the deal if the follow on in cheaper for that period than any replacement (something I have done with every EV I have had). When I sold our Hybrid Mutlivan back to VW (so the equivalent to the buzz) when it was 20 months old and had been a VW hire car it had only lost £14k from the new price. I bought my Buzz with a loan on the first orders so I could get one quickly and not too worked up about the deal available in one month having lost me money, I have had it for 6 months, like it and plan to keep mine for a few years and I get to do what I want to it. I also got 100% capital allowance in the first year so I get to keep a chunk of the cash I would have paid to HMRC (for a while at least).

Enjoying the channel Jim, I leased my first EV a couple of years ago, it’s a BMW i4 40 and the longer I own it the more confident in the tech and batteries I get. There are already some major used bargins out there and looking at the crazy prices of some of the newer cars (£75k for an electric 5 series), no one is going to buy new. The manufacturers are going to have to cook up some great deals to get people to bite and hit their EV quota’s. These ID Buzz in 3 year will be aging tech then and I wouldn’t be surprised to see sub £30k Interesting times ahead

In my view, in 2 years the trade value will be closer to 25k. Bear in mind that at that at that point, better range, spec and lease deals on brand new will appear better value unless a used one is significantly cheaper.

Hi .. never leased a car , how does it work at the end of the lease when you give it back , scratches , dents in door, alloy scuffs other visible wear and tear .. do you end up with a hefty repair bill ? Thanks

Great to see some really good lease deals starting to appear again. The market is definitely beginning to normalise. The ID deal along with the EQC deals have been fantastic.

I’m looking at buying a 2 year old Tesla 3 or Y. The plan is to keep it long term. The niggle in the back of my mind is the ever evolving battery technology and improved range. In 2 or 3 years time will I regret it when a battery can be fully charged in 10 minutes and the range is 500mls to 1000mls.

My thoughts are .... wait 2 years and when the market is flooded with cheap second-hand models, I will be able looking out for brilliant lease deals.

Great explanation and comparison, clearly explained. Tied myself in knots earlier in the week trying to workout whether taking a car through salary sacrifice against the hanging onto our fully paid for used EV for two years, would work out cheaper given depreciation and running costs etc. 🤔 Ultimately concluded I was comparing oranges with pears vehicle wise plus if I was setting myself a budget of £18k to buy a new used EV every two years, the overall cost was probably slightly less when trading in and upgrading (difference between old car and new used car) than taking out a lease/salary sacrifice but probably not much in it. However this drop in market values this year might change that equation.....

Very tricky right now. Will the current used cars values continue, or will the EV bubble burst? Nobody really knows.

Great video and example of the savings with leasing, but this deal ended about a month before your video was published. Your friend obviously got a great deal, but the savings now are nothing like stated. The best deals on leaseloco now, as others have said, are substantially more. The two deals are £15,237 and £6828 more than in the video including admin fees (that are not included in your figures). Should be more transparent and say this deal is an example, but not available now as it ended about a month ago. It’s definitely not a live case study as stated.

It's hard enough trying to predict the depreciation on stable tech ICE cars! I am expecting residuals to be savaged on new BEVs for the next few years, until technology matures to a certain point. At present, the outlook looks bleak for residuals owing to - tax treatment for brand new, which incentivises new over 2nd hand, thus depressing values - discounting at year ends to meet the BEV% targets for the car manufacturers, which will be anticipated by buyers, and lead to more end-of-year buying, to snap up the discounts, leading to a glut of ex leases 2 or 3 years when they are released - early obsolescence, from the rapid pace of technology improvements in BEV batteries / range. Specifically for e-Buzz, it will also be challenging on these SWB early models, as the new LWB (and 7 seat SWB option, if I recall) will doubtless be preferable to the first model. For smaller BEVs as runarounds, the immature battery/ range doesn't really matter, and the charging infrastructure will gradually mature, but for the e-Buzz and large tourers I think there's a threshold of at least 300 miles reliable range before they are seen as a desirable ICE replacement. I'd love an e-Buzz. My broad plan is to wait for 2 years and buy ex-lease, through my consulting firm

Not disputing the calculation, but the lease is not realistic, cheapest current deal on leasloco, personal 10k 3+24 is total 24k....not 9k

When you boil it all down buying expensive cars from new is a mugs game. Think my next car will be an old Japenese one that I'll run till it doesn't. I'll let someone else pay for it's depreciation ... this time.

It’s that time again for me to lease a car. We looked at a 2018 Qashqai for £16k Auto / Tekna + and thought we could run it into the ground. Or Lease a brand new one for £7k for 2 years with 10k mileage limit. It’s so hard to make the right choice sometimes it really is. Friends and family say 16k is worth but we just don’t want to part with so much money at once but at the same time it makes financial sense doesn’t it 🫣
