100% agree - but having only 39kw "rapid charging" that can be heated to 79kw if you pre-heat for 7 weeks, er I mean 47 damn minutes, is completely unacceptable. I want ability over information - but I want information too. I hate it in my Tesla Model 3 that I cannot manually pre-heat for instance. Not only is there no info from it - I cannot do it. I must "fake" it to go to a charger in the navigation etc. So stupid. We never use Teslas chargers, as we have "Clever"-charging. And the "you cannot make it" instead of "you will miss 2% if you attempt this route" - info is HORRIBLE.

It is! I don’t get why other car manufacturers put a lot more effort into animation charging than telling you things like battery temperature-and to have your max charge rate explicitly displayed is even more tangible. Now all we need is diagnostics when the car and charge refuse to work together.

Yeah in the 1000 km test it consumed 258 Wh/km at 3 degrees C, the ID.5 was at 252 Wh/km but it was 12 degrees C. At a more comparable 5 degrees C the Model S plaid consumed 252 Wh/km but this car takes another banana box. Still, a Model Y (RWD, blade battery) consumed 224 Wh/km at 4 degrees C and has more space.

@SteveLoughran
@SteveLoughran 3 ай бұрын
@@bjornnylandeven if plugged in and a departure time set? I’m actually getting really into tracking battery temp over winter -I now think it’s a complete failing of car battery and charge displays to not show this. More effort has been put into animations of electricity going into the car than a number in the corner saying “current battery temperature”. I can see it as a passenger in ABRP and an OBDII Bluetooth dongle - but that’s complicated. Does at least shown that when my wife drives down the M4 motorway on an 11C day, our battery can get up to 21C after 30 minutes, so matches interior temp. Preheating then only adds 4C as we get near the charge point. Going across London though, only 16C after 45 min. Clearly urban driving isn’t generating much heat in the engine or battery and our car (BMW) is prioritising cabin temp over battery

The VW ID.7 really is a great car, it just ticks all the boxes and has no real weak point. The bigger battery surely would have made it without a charging stop. Peugeot e-3008 with the big battery option might be the first (compact) SUV to complete this trip without a stop, could be interesting to test it. Unfortunately it won't be available before the summer, so it could be a contender for the next winter.

Please take a moment and think about all the people that can't charge at home and rely on on-street charging. The AC cable isn't allowed to be on the street and parking against the flow of the traffic also isn't allowed. The AC port needs to be on the right side for them. If the charging station is designed correctly, there isn't any downside of having the charge port on the right side as well, so I definitely prefer it that way.

The powerlimit was caused by the cold batteries, because cold batteries can't deliver all their power. Just like it's always at the start of the winter when old and cold 12v batteries fail at starting ICE cars. And reversedly, EV batteries can be charged fastest when they are warm, hence the preheating before fast-charging.

@@drfisheye But AFAIK it should have quite a long range, so the number of times one needs to charge in the middle of journey might be small. And it's a lot cheaper, at least in my country. I'm not surprised French cars charge slowly. French are famous for how long their lunches and other meals take, so they have the time 😇. Nevertheless, I've seen some graphs of a charging curve where it held almost 150kW up until some 50% of battery. That might be lower than ID.7, but it's not terrible either.

@@michalvaner3167 it's cheaper yes. In terms of charging according to the EV Database: charging from 10 to 80% would take 40 minutes and gets you 333km range. The ID.7 would take 28 minutes, giving 331km range. Not saying the Renault is bad in this regard, but not as good as the ID.7. It's not as efficient and charges much slower. I don't drive 1000km in one day in my holidays so the Renault would probably work fine for me.

And that’s different from BMW and Mercedes? it’s a real legacy of the classic “dealer upsell” business model. Tesla, like polestar, have gone for the “three check boxes on the web page” model -which probably has better resale, value as it is more transparent about what you get when you buy a used vehicle.

The ID7 is a good step in the right direction and a very nice car to drive, but the overall package is "only" a good average. It doesn't have any major weaknesses, but it doesn't set any new benchmarks either - the competition has certainly made greater progress here or still ahead. BEV market leader in 2025, as was once announced, will still not be possible. But as a company vehicle alone, the ID7 will find buyers, at least in Europe. If the price was reduced a bit, it would be even more interesting

@@user-br8ny2it9t That's always in the eye of the beholder, since "better" is always quite subjective. I can only speak for our company: we had the ID7 for testing, so I gave a “conclusion” here. We are looking for a replacement for our old Model 3P, but will now replace it with a Model 3 LR. This was supported by the higher trailer load (we often have to tow a variety of trailers), shorter vehicle with almost the same trunk volume, uniform operation (we use Model 3&Y), uniform and great software connection for the fleet manager, slightly better fuel consumption (also with 4WD), Ranger Service (works perfectly for us), no mandatory service appointments (we do it ourselves), 20% cheaper price

It's difficult to correctly predict the SoC of a battery. Also, we don't know the state of the BMS calibration or the balance of the pack. Like someone said...the pack was very cold, that also screws around with pack performance. In the end, this car handled the cold and low state of charge pretty well up the hill. Preventing sudden death of the pack. Even the car's prediction was pretty good. All in all, seems like a good car (8/10) and pretty good EV (7/10).
