Are these similar to the 2.0 tdi which replaces injectors with direct injection?

I appreciate the video, it's well put together. I'd just like to tell people who use these videos as downsides to not buying a car you want: Every manufacturer has common problems. If you go to a different mechanic for each you'll have them tell you loads of common problems with the cars they work on. It's the same thing in IT where I work - we only work on issues so it's easy for us to list hundreds of common problems however those problems rarely affect the mainstream in a big way. Just be mindful about it and don't let it be the deciding factor. Cars are generally a loosing deal and shit happens all the time :) Oh and I do own a Passat B7 2013 with some small common problems such as water leak from the hole in the main console on the passenger side and driver door not closing when it's below freezing outside.

@@valterofpv4227 Tip: If you really need to go but can't close the door - pull in the door as much as you can and throw on central locking. It'll keep the door safe enough however it might get stuck and prevent you from opening the door from the outside for a while. I have yet to figure out why the central locking gets stuck but it helps when I'm in a hurry. Also, from what I've gathered you should prep the door seals, locking mechanism and wires in the door before the winter hits - some good water resistant oil - just don't use whatever you google but ask a mech or look it up properly so you don't cause more issues. To maintain one should reapply every month or so during the freezing temps. Pref when the car has been sheltered indoors for a bit to get the moist out. It's easy to open the door up so you can reach whatever you need however be sure to use the correct oil (I'm not sure which one at the moment, had a mech friend do it this time).

Here in the U.S. I'm on my 2nd passat. my 2006 was a TDI and now on my 2nd, a 2014 TDI. I had roughly 173K miles on the first one and the only major issue was the DSG transmission had a mechtronix failure. On my 2nd and it is giving me a few minor issues but nothing major. Currently dealing with a sunroof drain clog leak into interior trunk. Radio stopped working completely for about 2 weeks and then suddenly returned back to life. Also had a main oil seal leak. Not sure if this video mentioned the heater core failures which are common but dealer here covers those. OVerall the cars are great IMO. I'm a highway driver driving 60miles a day.

@@discy12345 I bet that's not a problem if the battery is good, and the car is driven a lot regulary. I have a device permanently connected to the OBD for power thru an OBD to USB adapter, and it never cause issues, but my battery was replaced this year. I drive a lot, tho, I feel 2000 km a month is like nothing, but I do have premium car audio as well, which in theory could draw up to around 1900W RMS, probably limited to about 1100W as it is atm, still no problem with power draw

Make sure a rebuild has been done to change the pistons else you get atrousious oil consumption from 125k miles and onwards (1L/300 miles). There has been a recall in US for the EA888 TSI models. So check the papers. If you go for a DSG, this is still a dry clutch and not a wet one like the newer DSGs. Pricy transmission rebuild/clutch replacement every 100-150k. B8 is a safer bet.

@@A46648 you can take a hike with your yaris or avensis.. most toyotas are boring cars, and the ones that can make your heart pump are massively overpriced. And toyotas are notorious for rust issues here in the nordic countries (because.. you know.. not all people live in warm climates- we actually get snow around here). German cars are somewhat overengineered, but they’re also more comfortable and based on what you’re looking for, you can decide on the brand and model.. but toyota is literally for old people or people who have no imagination.. or money.. if you can’t keep up on your maintenance, then you can’t expect on them lasting. Sure you can buy a stupid red yaris, drive it for 7 years, then buy another one for a fraction of a cost of a decent vw, audi or merc, but is it really worth it..? Personally, i’d never buy a toyota, because they’re boring and whilst the engines last a long time, they’re not that reliable when you don’t keep up on your maintenance- so i’d prefer a german car every day of the year.

I live in germany where these still go for over 12k euros if you want them with below 150 000 km on the clock... and the ones that are cheaper all have over 500 000 km... Not sure if they're this shit honestly :D My gut feeling is if you regularly get them serviced at a VW garage they tend to last. Have had mine a couple months, so far nothing weird. But mine is one of the very last ones they built so a lot of these issues were probably known at that point too.

@@A46648 old Toyotas are extremely reliable, but same goes for some VW cars, just do the important thing called service, and it will run for years and insane distances. Passat with diesel engines are known to run for a long time, if serviced properly anyway, in Europe, German cars are for sure some of the most popular ones, and might be cheaper and easier to keep it running well. even in Norway, as we've got a lot of bad electric cars around, VW still keeps up with their slow EV production btw, the EV shit have to end or at least slow down, as it results in lots of new issues in Norway, like a government that thinks the electrical system can work well without major changes, while forcing people into the world of powerhungry electric explosives that drives around, and requires charging all the time

Full service twice a year & My current Passat 2.0 DSG tdi has 182k runs like a dream 👍. I had B8 passat R line 98k - engine oil was leaking, noisy suspension, electrical issues, first and last 😂 B7 all the way!

a friend of mine had the B8 GTE wagon for about 6 months, within the 5 year new car warranty, and just 2 weeks before the warranty was over, the camshaft regulator broke, and he was informed that it would cost 103k NOK, which is about 10k USD he was scared that the car would have more issues later, so he "downgraded" to the same car as mine, which is the 2011 B7, manual transmission, 1.6 TDI, which runs like a dream I've had a single issue with the engine so far, which was the known injector issue, but was covered by used car warranty, then I had a faulty ABS sensor which was replaced, and now I have 4/12 defect parking sensors (my car has the "best" set of parking sensors, 6 in front and 6 in the back) and bad arm bushes I think. some rust too anyway, after driving it for 69000 km (literally) with just those problems, even with different driving styles, either it being the best passeger experience possible, or the hard "let's try the cars limitations" style, mild offroading, city driving, high speed on the highway (up to 200 kph at the speedometer) and so on, I can't complain. the car is awesome! my car is tuned from 105 hp to 140 hp, btw, as it's known to reduce some engine related issues
