Have to say, that looks amazing. The front LEDs are even better than its cousins at Audi and I love the fun interior. They’ve delivered a car with real character and value.

Love it. Especially in the blue. Would love it even more in a 3 door. The virtual display is more like the Audi one rather than the one in my current Golf 7.5. Which is a good thing.

I'm not a fan of the red accents in the interior, but Thomas says that mat grey can be added. Looking forward to a driving video. But since the Polo is not to be had in the USA sad. I'll be happy with my GOLF GTI.

i notice ...the black trim on the door window level that covers the B-Pillar has been retained to be part of the door ..unlike the old version where they'd left it in the B-Pillar ... sort of went back to the old 9N door design feel...

The biggest progress of the new VW Polo are the design of the front and of the interior.😍 Furthermore I really enjoy the infotainment and assistant system options. For my own use the new Polo is the better VW Golf 💪 Of course my favorite Polo is the GTI with 200hp XD Maybe the new Polo gets the best GTI because this car is very compact. Can`t wait for another great review with the driving part of the GTI ;) 👍

Love the colour, interior is very nice aswell but think I would opt for grey inserts as the red looks a bit garish, is this the plain gti or the gti+, we are getting 2 different ones in the UK, I currently have a 2017 Polo GTI but will upgrade to the new one in a couple of years

The Polo has 59 hp more than the Suzuki Swift Sport Boosterjet, but the Polo also weights a massive 380 kg (!) more than the Suzuki. Adding power makes you faster on the straights; subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere!

But, about the dsg, you said the polo has the 6 speed version ( by the way, not limited at 250nm now). But why only 6 speeds ? In France, with the golf 7 gti facelift we have the dsg 7... The new polo have to come with a dsg 7 like the golf.

It depends on the horse power figure as I said. The strong engines get the 6spd as the wet clutch can better handle the torque, all below that 7spd dry

Nice. But still strange for the dsg. VW put a dsg7 in the new golf gti ( and the new golf R), with a 245hp TSI ( or 310hp). But for the polo, they "only" put a 6 speeds for 200hp, wet clutch as you said. Look like strange in my opinion, the new polo use the same engine, but with a different dsg. We will see on the road !

Thanks Thomas, great review! I like the look of this car, indeed very much like the Golf and it would have been a worthy alternative if it weren't for the cost saving in the interior. I have to say especially the inside of the doors puts me right off. On the other hand VW sure wouldn't like it if everyone switched from the Golf to the Polo! :-)

In some rental cars you'll get a sort of "key card" on cars with start stop button, that could be it. It sure does look like it did in a rental i had once.

@Sasham5GTI If you want much more of course you're going to go with the Golf but, you're paying more for it... It's not rocket science. The Polo Gti has everything you want in a car but at a very cost effective price without it being too expensive for the average person. I'm a bit annoyed because I have the 2015 Polo Gti (fully optioned) that does not have the many features that this New 2018 Polo GTI currently has. The Polo GTI has become a much more premium vehicle then ever before. If I had the funds, I would definitely get this over the Golf GTI. If you want to get the Golf GTI.. you may as well just buy the Golf R (price difference isn't that far apart).

As always, a super review. It is too bad the polo is not sold in Canada nor the USA, tho it is sold in mexico and latin America. I know i would give up my golf gti for a polo gti. I see the rear side and hatch glass is tinted. I hope this is optional and not standard as it makes the interior far too dark especially with the black interior. Having lived in the Northeast of N. America and having spent extended time during winters in neidersachsen, where the days are often gloomy and the tint is not needed (as well night vision is obscured) i truly do not like driving with tinted windows. I can see the tint as necessary in sunny climes though.

not 100 % of course but basically it is the same engine block, there are no different 2.0 l petrols at VW, why should there be

it's similiar construction with mk7 GTI engine, maybe turbo is smaller as 2.0 TSI 190, but definitely it's EA888 3gen (in mk6 is 2gen with low quality piston rings = oil concumption problem)

Pretty obvious my friend. In my opinion, the 2018 Polo Gti has everything you want in a car TODAY, which my 2015 Polo GTI doesn't so, I'm kind of bummed about it. If you were seriously thinking of getting the Golf GTI, just buy the Golf R. The price difference between the two isn't that far off and the Golf R offers all. Otherwise just buy the Polo GTI whereas it offers you pretty much the same shit the Golf GTI has but at a more cost afforadable price. You can use the rest of the money you might had SPENT on the Golf GTI with simple mods E.g "Vinyl wrap"

Are you sure this is not the darker blue "Dark Petrol" colour ? This one does not look so bright and glossy in the video, as the "Reef Blue" shown at IAA in Frankfurt, or in most other videoes.. Also seen the official "Reef Blue" colour test plate at dealer, and that look brighter and more glossy than the one shown here..

Glad I saw it "live" at the IAA, and can rest assured the Highline I ordered will arrive in a brighter more glossy blue colour... every single car review these days completely misses the technical specification part, what happened guys?? how does the engine mechanically compare to the golf's, it's internals; what about suspension details, mutlilink, torsion beam; brakes, no info on disc diameters; CAR KERB WEIGHT??? great reviews nonetheless tho.

I do as well but, I actually like this one as well. Looks very different and more matured and also comes with everything I wanted in a car that the 2015-2017 Polo Gti should of had......

Dark petrol is a solid colour and this car seems to have a metallic finish. I'm hoping you're right though. I really like this gti's colour and a solid paint would be easier on the pocket.

exterior Is near perfect. I'm sure they will fine tune the front lower bumper on the facelift. the interior dash looks too simplistic, not fascinating.

you're wrong, it's DQ250 DSG , same gearbox as Leon Cupra 280/290/300 and prelift Golf GTI / R

Correct me pls! In 1992 Opel Calibra 2 LITER TURBO delivered 204 HP. So in 2018 VW can do the same ....... If you ask me it's pretty lame for a 23.000 euro starting price!!!!

The question is if the engine is actually the same as the golf with is20 turbo ? And if the intake/cooler are the same (bigger then the old gen polo) if it is the same it’s really amazing

It may be annoying but, I don't mind it much with everything else it comes out with. Honestly, for what this car now gives to the consumer, I would buy this over the golf any day.

Yeah, I like the digital display but am not at all sure at the red colour for the dash, especially with that blue exterior paint choice. Definitely Like the cars overall style though, it is attractive, the styling kind of makes you just expect a bit more from the inside, as if you're actually looking at a much more expensive class of car!

Perhaps if Volkswagen want to inject a bit of fun into the design they should consider allowing customers to customize that piece of dashboard trim, choice of materials like a fake suede or even custom artwork wrap etc.., but at least this way it would give the customer something appealing to them, rather than something off-putting!

yea so stupid they are got rid of that, let's hope that the mk8 golf will have a 3 door version, 3 doors look way better and i literally use my back seats 5 times a year max, even my front passenger seats rarely gets used.

the reason why i like the 3 door version more is because i'm quite tall so i sit back far, with 5 door models this means i sit too much next to the b pillar, the 3 door the b pillar is more behind me

Somehow the Market research revealed that the ppl who buy the Polo with 3 doors, is not that many. So VW decided to shit on the ppl who want 3 doors, to save costs in making the car. I don't really car as I need a car to have 5 doors ;)
