It's harder than ever to bond with our kids. Screens have taken over our lives! Entertainment has become so personalized that we aren't sharing as many experiences. Families used to enjoy each other's company to pass the time. Now we all go our separate ways. We're forgetting what it means to connect with one another.
No screens when camping!
When we “go camping,” we’re seeking real experiences, we immerse ourselves in the best reality has to offer. We hike, climb rocks, build campfires, cook good food... Oftentimes these activities require knowledge and some skill thus, opportunities for learning, and at the very least, some good exercise. Accomplishment and exercise in nature is a good recipe for fulfillment! Feeling good about ourselves while we're together builds unity. We laugh, tell stories, and have good conversations about everything you can imagine…our bonds grow stronger, and our family ties strengthen.
When camping in the wilderness, there are plenty of tasks to be done. We try not to make the common mistake of making it a vacation for our kids--they'll just get bored. We work together as a team to make it an adventure where everyone takes pride in pulling their own weight.
There's something special about camping that allows us to share the best of ourselves! We get relaxed and allow ourselves to be who we are. We get to be our genuine selves and love each other all the more for it. Camping helps us create a timeless bond that will help us through when times get difficult.

My dad use to take us up to Fish Lake camping, he is now 78 and I’m 56 we still camp together. The things that happen to us when we are little do change us forever.

Thank you so much for bringing us along with your family. I grew up in Texas and the Southern California desert but i met a girl, got married and got a family going. Two adult girls now 18 and 20 yo. Oldest doing great in college, youngest has a severe mental disability and creates an incredible degree of stress in our family except when I take her camping in Vermont and she’s great! Its just so nice to see a balanced family. Thank you Steve.

You would love the alpine lakes territory in Washington state. I lived up at Mt. Rainier, worked there, hiked everyday and did the wonderland trail 20 something years ago. 98 miles and worth every minute!! Thanks again for beautiful posts Steve!!!!!

I’m 82 and my son is 53, we camped when he was young like your son. We still camp together but my hiking legs aren’t what they use to be. Sure wish we’d had a Firebox Stove back then. Your videos warm my heart and yes, today I have a Firebox Stove. Had to wait til you came along. Thanks.

What a great trip, I love the laying down tree. I always wonder how you remember to get back to your camp after your long walks. Don’t forget to teach your kids how to cook this wonderful food. My girls say they are glad I made them take turns cooking supper,because some of their friends don’t know how to cook simply things. Your son is so sweet,and of course your girls are also. I had 5 girls. No boys. It’s nice your whole family is on this trip. No wonder your son was cold ,it’s snowing. May you are blessed with more family outings in this coming new year. My wife is from out there. I am from NW CT which is mostly big hills and forests. It is really different out there and the drives are really awesome around dawn and dusk. I can't tell if the snow is much better or worse than us, but they do get a good bit colder though. There is a milky blue waterfall that I gotta go see next time we visit her family.

From the time my kids were 4-5 we would take long road trips. People would ask how I survived with young kids. We never had a problem. If they started getting loud, I’d tell them we should have silence contests. My kids were so competitive we could go hundreds of miles before one would lose. Lol. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of any other kids have silence contests. And we love our firebox.

For the reverse sear you want to put a couple pebbles between the water and the other pan. Because there is no water under the steak pan since it is resting directly on the other pan so it is not regulating the temp as well. Plus since the steaks steamed a bit with the lid on, so it is best to wipe them down after cooking to dry them and then putting on some oil and seasoning before searing. Love the idea, I reverse sear all my roasts and they come out perfect every time.

They're actually is a space between the pans when nested. When I'm planning to try is a thermal break between the stakes and the pan they are in. They came to temperature faster than I would have liked. I plan to try that next. I will build the perfect steak cooking machine! Diabolical laugh... diabolical laugh...😎

@@fireboxstove He is right about drying off the outside of the steak before searing. Moisture is the enemy of browning/searing. Oiling after drying would help further, I believe it helps spreading the heat more evenly and maybe faster (not sure exactly). But drying is a must. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

@@fireboxstove Lol Diabolical steak cooker. Couldn't see there was a space. What about just using one of those small metal grate grills and bend the grates to make a fold at each end so you get some lift for the steaks in the pan? But also use a lid that lets the steam out of the cooking area for the steaks. You'll get a better brown if they are not all wet.

@@fireboxstove You know I also wonder if you are creating like a mild pressure cooker effect by having them nested and the water then gets above 212 or if your altitude has a similar negative effect?

@@fireboxstove that’s so cool! I’m excited for you! I found adventure motorcycle camping about 3 years ago and have never experienced such freedom and adventure it truly changed my life for the best. If you have any questions ( not that you need help) bit I am always happy to share what I have learned especially some excellent routes. The BDR or backcountry discovery routes are amazing and there is one here in Utah I did solo last year ;) Thanks for sharing my firebox video and keep up the adventures I truly love seeing you take the family and enjoying the great outdoors. Now I need to prefer a few more items from you and try some of your recipes I keep seeing on your adventures they look delicious 🤤 Cheers!
