Hello and welcome back to the channel! :-) Finally, finishing things off, bedding in the rings and first drive to my MOT! She passed! :-)

Great result with the weight loss Tom one of the key issues with the T4 ! So pleased it’s on the road again and even better than before. All that hard work and commitment had paid off 😎👍

Wow, sounds ace. Reminds me of when I restored my 74 Beetle when I was 17! First drive. Did actually run out of petrol haha. Dodgy float, hole in it.

The tread pattern on those tires looks very similar to the original Michelin Pilot Sports. Love ATS wheels. Always wanted a set if ATS cup's for one of my mk2's. That thing sounds lovely. Nice job! Would be awesome with some H&R's, KW's, Bilstein's or any other quality coilover setup. You'll eventually want them over the spring/ shock combos for corner balancing/ dampening and rebound adjustments, not to mention how great they would make the van look with the wheels and flares.

@@SpeedingTube have you been to the gti fest at santa pod? I did 9 runs in my 302bhp sleeper bora 1.8t, nope that was before I fitted hybrid turbo and bigger injectors so it was running 242 then, ran it all day and drove a 5 hour round trip never missed a beat and took my mk1 golf gti cabriolet when I had that, great day out. For the vw fans.

Hi John, thanks for the kind words. You're more than welcome to jump in for a spin in Cornwall or at an event etc once its all setup. I was hoping to get stuck in at Pod this year but 2020 just hasn't worked out how I planned so I'll just try and get ready for next year now ha

I have some Kirkey padded covers in the loft for winter, for day to day driving I'm going to put a layer of 1" foam on the bases. After 1 hour driving it was a bit bumpy, haha

Makes me wonder what's possible from the 2.5 TDI engine with standard turbo, clutch & gearbox? Did you ever try tuning the standard engine before it got swapped out?

I've heard rumours of people building a 400bhp+ 2.5TDi but I haven't seen anything yet. I'm sure its possible to make big numbers on the 2.5TDi but many of the parts would likely be custom or expensive. The 1.8T 20v is relatively cheap to tune with lots of information and parts readily available so it was the right choice for me.

The thing is, with the 2.5 tdi you got loads of torque anyway, so no need for really high hp figures. Around 220-240 is what i personally have seen some friends run on their 2.5s and that's plenty of punch for a T4. Given that they are fwd they struggle for grip even with that amount of power :D

Thanks, its a Turbosmart Raceport. It was only running 14psi here so I can't wait to hear it at 30psi :-)

Hi mate. Lovely van by the way👌🏼😁. What insurance are you with.? As I’ve got a vw t4 it’s got a 1.8 turbo engine in that’s running about 200bhp. When I got it it was still registered on the logbook as a diesel. So I registered it as a petrol turbo. Now when I go put the Reg in it comes up as a car is that normal do you know? Or would I need special insurance for it now?. Cheers mate. Lou

You register it with an engine swap with DLVA. You can put the engine fuel and cc in and they will do the rest. I am insured with A Plan Thatcham Schemes.

Hi mate. Been talking to Nick about your recent dyno session with him. I’ve got a 20v Lupo like him and we are about to go stand-alone on it. I’ve been offered an EMU ecu like yours, but my harness is for a ME3.8 not the usual Bam/APY set up. Did you just terminate the EMU into your existing loom. Thanks

Hi Richard, just wired the sensors into the ECU. You can get an EMU to ME ECU harness for about £100 on the RRR website

Hi David, I haven't had a chance to get some heat into them yet. Once she's mapped I'll be able to get them hot and see how they perform. Will you be using the tyres from ambient or are you getting tyre warmers for the hillclimb?

speedingtube I’m in the road going class. No tyre warming allowed other than some wheel spins before the start line. I think they do a 100 and 200 wear rating so I would be going for the 100 softer compound.

@@davidstuart3795 Ok that's cool, if you're not allowed to warm the tyres and just a little wheel spin I'd probs go for a colder tyre, maybe a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S? The Accelera seem ok but for hillclimbs I'd want to see what other people are running on your platform.

speedingtube most run a really soft tyre. I’m currently on Toyo R888 but will be changing next year. Can select from anything on the tyre list 1A or 1B.

I have a standalone, removed the maf so the air isn't metered, the ECU has a built in MAP sensor 😎👍

Driving a T4 myself, I was wondering why you only put 98 load tires on a T4. Then I saw the crazy weight reduction to 1400 kg on a damn bus.... Nevermind.

I have carbon bonnet, side door and tailgate for next year. The side door alone is about 40kg so there's some good savings to be made

The same reason a lot of t4 owners put xl tyres on, they believe it has some magical relevance.

@@Notalwaysserious Lots of T4's are nudging 2000kg, add the weight transfer/roll due to the height and on converted vans I'd say XL tyres are a good move. I have seen low rated alloys on T4's, that's a bigger concern imo.

02M with steel forks, 4th support and Wavetrac diff. I really want a Monster Performance 1-6 dog box before I kill 4th and then eventually a full blown Sadev sequential box.

@@T4TipsGuides Not far out at all, great guess! That's with a full tank of fuel so I'll get another go in a few months! Hoping to get it down to 1320kg with carbon panels!

@@SpeedingTube I have been keeping track of what you have removed over the years, I knew it must be under 1500 KG which is already crazy light. If you get another 200 KG off that then you are going to be around the same weight as the lightest mk7 golf GTi which was around 1293KG. Nuts, absolutely nuts, I love it haha.

@@T4TipsGuides Yeah, 1300kg would be amazing. I've got lighter front doors to go on (current ones have dynamat fitted by previous owner) and insulation from all over the van, ply lining. Next will be the carbon bonnet, side door and tailgate, then polycarbonate 3mm windows which should save another 50kg in total. Fingers crossed!
