In this next video in our camper van conversion series, we discuss preparing units for installation and pre-installing electrics. We also discuss some of the challenges associated with the U-shape configuration and how we have overcome them through careful planning. A really useful video if you’re currently thinking about converting a T5/T6 van or similar.
Please note that our units were supplied by Van Furniture and our electrics were supplied by Rayne Automotive. These were purchased at full price by us and are not sponsored in any way.

great job and has given my some good ideas as im just in the middle of my electric s at mo. love the idea of the gas cartridge which save space and weight. keep it up......👍

Hi Norm, how are the gas cylinders working for you? Did you still have to put a floor vent in? Great video btw.

Thanks Steve! The cylinders work great. Small, light and easy to carry spares - although we only used two during a full week away - so you don’t need that many. I didn’t fit a floor vent as the volume of gas in each is so low and you switch them off at the cylinder after each use. We do have a gas and a CO alarm however. Cheers. N

Hi Norm, I ordered the cadac regulator as per your recommendation. However, I’m struggling to make the connection from the quick connect (left hand thread) to the 8mm copper that attaches to the hob. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks

It seems extreme but I cut off the threaded connector and pushed the rubber tube on to the copper pipe and secured with a jubilee clip. Sorry, I should have made that clear before. Let me know once you’ve got it up and running. Best wishes. N

@@highergroundlifestyle I thought that might be the case after trying to zoom in on your video. That’s no problem, I’ll add a compression between the pipe and the hose just to be extra safe. Thanks again for getting back to me. Your videos have been very helpful and one of the deciding factors in us also going for the u bed setup 👍

Hello, I'm thinking of getting this same conversion for my van. Where did you get the removable table? Did you specifically request not to get the folding table instead?

Hi. The table was supplied by the same people who supplied the U-shape and cushions, Van Furniture. I asked for a free standing table instead of the wall mount as I think it’s a more sociable layout. The table is in oak and matches the optional oak work surface. There are two types of table mount, flush and “mushroom” (raised). The flush mount is neater but requires a hole in the floor. I went for this. Best of luck. N

Hi, which regulator are using with the canisters? And where do you get the canisters from? Thanks

Hi, I’m using the cadac regulator. It’s designed to allow you to use screw in cartridges for their garden BBQ’s but works great. No regrets using the cartridges as they’re small, light, much safer and easier to carry. I tend to order on line as it’s cheaper but you can also get from any camping shop. Cheers. N
